HI!!! RW:
I've been thinking about you! Good to see from you again. Wish I was going to be at BRCI to see you, too. This will be the first BRCI I've missed in about 10 years.
But I pretty certain I'll see ya next year. (I hear it might be in the Chicago area again next year, but that's not certain. The board will have to decide at their meeting.Tina:
LOL! Quite all right. Glad we got that little confusion cleared up. (I'll bet COMF is too.)Scorpion:
Thanks for the reply/clarification. I hear Ron Frye is not going to make it to BRCI this year either. You're right, his Christian Respondents were great stuff. -

Hi, Tina:
I think Scorpian was referring to Norm's own post a little higher up, not COMF's post to me. (Just a guess)Also, I'm hoping AMAZING will see the question to him from Uncle Onion. (It's my impression that AMAZING is liberal Christian.)

Why do they have clothes on?
by Simon injust a thought.... in most of the publications that have pictures of people in the new order / new system / paradise earth - why do they have clothes on?
not only that, but they usually wear their national costumes !.
i guess the practical reason is that if everyone was naked then the watchtower would be classed as soft-porn and could only be sold from top shelves.... anyone have any thoughts on this?

Hello, Simon:
I posed this very question in an article on BEACON website - www.xjw.com
Article is titled: "Paradise on Earth--When?" -

i'm new to the board and was curious as to everyone's standing.
i'm 30, a christain, i left the jws 3 years ago (after being in it for 21 years) to follow jesus and heard of, among other good things, this great thing called: grace!

I, and many of my exJW friends, remain Christian, non-trinitarian. I am not affiliated with any church denomination. Have an avid interest in Biblical study from a more scholarly perspective.

My Epiphany
by Farkel inwell, folks.
i just had a minor epiphany.
its a wonder it never dawned on me before, because it should have been so obvious.. we can forget about doing any more research or any more exegesis.

Correction to my post above: I said Johnny Green wrote "Love Me or Leave Me". I meant he wrote "Body and Soul". Sorry for the error.

Conventions
by podsy1 inthe reason that i asked this question is that i wanted my younger son to understand why my wife and i were so attached to such an organization as the wbts.
by what we have told him of the beliefs held by the witnesses he thinks they are crazy.
i am going to have him listen to a tape that goes into to the "hope" that many of us had concerning 1975. i wanted him to see a large assembly and the influence that it can have in convincing one that the wbts has the "truth.

We believed some very incredible things as JWs. The average person cannot understand it. Your son will likely never understand it.
I think one of the hardest things about coming out of a religion like that is that when we get our senses, we can't understand it ourselves. We actually BELIEVED we were never going to die . . . just live right through a whole-scale mass world slaughter and walk in a big parade of smiling faces into Paradise. People who think normally just don't understand how we thought. -

Hi, COMF:
Me? "Butt heads" --was the pun intended? LOL -- with Norm and JH? Nahhh! They're too smart!
(Here I thought I was known more for getting into it with trinitarian revivalists.) -

Hi, Farkel:
Thanks, this was a classic. Excellent recap of the organizational flaws.
Remembering when they changed from the green book to the pink book, like overnight the singing went from ho-humish (pun intended) to horrible. I used to play piano when they had the green book, and the singing wasn't too bad in those days, but nothing like the singing in a lively evangelical church. (That's one thing I will give fundamentalists credit for--their inspirational singing.) But after the pink book came, I quit playing because I could not follow their tunes--neither to play nor sing. The tunes just do not follow general music theory. I must not be the only one who had that problem. I thought that was why they resorted to releasing tapes to accompany singing. People just can't sing bad music. Now pushing back a little before the pink book came out, remember the music they had at district assemblies in the early 60s? They started having a choir at district assemblies, and some of the songs were quite lovely. I heard a rumor that Johnny Green (MGM music director, wrote "Love Me or Leave Me") was a JW, and I wondered if he might have had anything to do with some of that music for a brief time before the pink book. One song I especially remember, not because it was beautiful, but because of the weird lyrics (in march tempo):
"Hap-py are the ones who stay a-waaaake
And keep their out-er gar-r-r-ments!
That they may not walk un-cloooothed
And peo-ple see their parts of sha-a-a-ame!
Oh we are ha-ppy serv-ing Jahhhhhh" ...
[Da-dah da-dah da-dah dah dahhhhhh]
He comes to see the work we do,
May we al-ways stay a-waaake!Remember that one.

To Ven:
Sorry I missed Mulan's pics. As I mentioned to her, the more I reflect on that little get-together, the more I think how enjoyable it was. I really enjoyed meeting you all, and wish there had been more time to get acquainted. I want to do your dad's story for Beacon. Post me if you like at: [email protected]Blessings,
