he tells me that the wtbts are becoming very wary of lending money for kh "quick-builds".
he says that, in the uk at least, there are brothers who act as building inspectors who have been appointed by the society to make sure that any new kh being built comes up to certain minimum standards before the society will part with any mortgaged money.. this, he says, has brought to an end the era of the quickie partly pre-fabricated kingdom hall, so beloved of the local news conscious dubbies.
I was on the roof air nailing shingles in. I even got my picture in the newspaper... but seriously who would give a 14 yoa girl an air nailer? I could have had an accident so easily.
Jeez! At our quick build, one of the regional "brothers" got a special "deal" on some cheap bricks. There was one catch. Seems that the reason they were so cheap was the rust stains from the steel bands. Soooo.... a whole bunch of sisters had to take brushes and acid and scrub them clean. Un-freaken-believeable.

The quick-build I was involved in some 7 or 8 years ago went smoothly but the end result was the worst looking building in the area. In order to save costs (per the regional building commitee) we didn't put in any windows, install fake wood doors, magazine counter was made from plywood, garage door color didn't match the rest of the building (probably got donated). The worst thing though, is that people who never touched a stone in their lives laid the brick walls. It looks like shit. Esp. at night time when they turn on the outside lights. One can see how uneven the walls are. Now I see they must have needed some additional storage space. They just put up shed next to the Hall. It appears they tried to match the roof line and the overall design of the Hall but, like everything else, it looks like volunteers put it up.
Good luck trying to ever sell that property!

Did anyone else have Sister "I'm an old pioneer who has to prove something"? She would witness to anyone and everyone. The best part of field service were taking coffee breaks. She would find a way to ruin this. Instead of just sitting down and relaxing she would start witnessing to the cashiers and start offering them the mags. (hey, had to keep her time going ya know). Of course the cashiers would be polite and accept them, which only encouraged her. One could almost see the steam coming out of the manager's ears.

rather amusing reaction from the royal bank of scotland when he contacted them for money to fly back to scotland - they were on holiday....lol for those who do not know, the scottish have a reputation for, how shall one put it, being careful with their money.

having seen what happened during my husband's df, and his subsequentreinstatement, what would it mean to da yourself?
would you be treated the same as being df?
I don't know if it's true across the board or not (and not that it would apply to most here) but it's was experience as a former elder that someone who was da'd had a much harder time being reinstated.
If someone were df'd for, say, immorality, they could be reinstated pretty quickly if they attended all the meetings, etc. Someone who was da'd for something like apostacy, had to wait much longer.
Anyhoo....for me da'ing myself was the route to go. I liked the "freedom" of it all. No one had to "guess" how I felt about the WT and it's false teachings.
as it now stands, the australian government has pledged $810 million to the tsunami relief effort.. germany is next with $674 million.. japan--$500 million.. u.s. trails in fourth place with $350 million.

Believe it or not, I did here on the news that people who were there on vacation went back to the beach after the disaster and are continuing on with there vacation. Geez. On the other hand, they also had a story about others who skipped going back to their home country in order to stay and help with the clean up. Those people deserve a free when they get home. Maybe two.

But do they REALLY believe that any longer? They've personally witnessed prediction after prediction not come true. They've seen their core beliefs (like blood and neutrality) contrantly having to be changed. Beliefs and predictions they personally molded and shaped under the "direction from Jehovah." C'mon, even they have to start to wonder.
For the few years that I was an elder, I knew that what I was teaching was crap. I gave public talks on subjects that I no longer believed in. That was deceitful. I couldn't take it any longer and decided to exit stage left. I feel that most of the GB members are in the same boat but do not have any means to exit the organization or they know it's a bunch or crap but love the power. For the first group, the twisted quote "where will we go?" truly applies to them. Because of this I believe they go with the flow, much the same way a member of organized crime who has a change of heart doesn't leave out of fear of being wacked. Look how Ray was made an "example" of.
