  Watchtower cleans out Kingdom Hall Library's ...

  last night i got a call from a chap in the uk, who recently left the jw's.

  he wanted to compare notes with his us counterparts.. he said that a few years ago, (i think about 2 years ago) the society cleaned out all the literature from every kingdom hall, particularly russell and rutherford books and anything prior to 1950. giving each hall a computer with the watchtower cd rom for them to use for research.

  he wanted to know if the same was done in the states.

  That's really ironic. I wanted to offer the "Studies in the Scriptures" to Bethel library, and I remember that people I told that were very disturbed. Later, one of them (bethel committee member) told me that I can (or should) put those books in trash, and never ever look for them.

  Ah, I remember when I got my first set of volumes from the DAWN, before I could afford an original set from collectors. Some of the friends were in my home and saw all my Russell reprint literature, and told me that the books wer apostate. I told them "but it's brother Russell's writings, how could they be apostate?" They told me "how do you know they didn't chnage them?" I thought, "why would they be 'Russellites', if they're gonna change his writings?"

  In the end I went to the elders and asked them what their opinion was. The P.O. told me it was not apostate, but was 'old light' and should not waste our time reading old literature.

  RR do you have a link to any comment by Randy or anyone else on this? Of course no active Witness will believe it.

  I'm not sure if Randy has mentioned this on his site. I do recall many years ago talking to Randy about this and he verified the book burning.

  But you're right, JW's will not believe it. I recall talking to a JW elder and he wanted the exact date of the letter so he could look in his files. Of course what's requested in NYC, may not be requested elsewhere.

  Last night I got a call from a chap in the UK, who recently left the JW's. He wanted to compare notes with his US counterparts.

  He said that a few years ago, (I think about 2 years ago) the Society cleaned out all the literature from every Kingdom Hall, particularly Russell and Rutherford books and anything prior to 1950. Giving each Hall a computer with the Watchtower CD Rom for them to use for research. He wanted to know if the same was done in the States. I can't say for sure if they have, I do know that some Kingdom Halls I have been in don't have decent library's, they have a desktop computer.

  I do remember back in the early 1980s, the congregation receiving a letter from the Society, bragging about all the new building projects they were doing around the world and that they wanted all Kingdom Halls and publishers to send them their old literature so that they can distribute them to the various new Halls and headquarters so they would have a decent theocratic library.

  Now in my congregation, we had about 8 bethelites, including the P.O. and most of the elders and servants. I recall boxes and boxes of books, tracts, booklets being put into cars and being hauled off to Brooklyn. I specifically remember the letter emphasizing the need of Russell/Rutherford era literature. I later found out that the Society had a bonfire with the books. Randy Watters verified it for me many years ago.

  Oh, as to the Watchtower, Watch Tower. During the Russell years the name of the journal was The Watch Tower and Herald of Christ's Presence. After his death it became one word

  During C.T. Russell's reign, there were 3 corporations. The Watch Tower Bible and Tract Society in PA, then in 1909 they moved in Brooklyn, NY and incorporated the People's Pulpit Association, in 1914 the International Bible Students Association was incorporated to oversee the work overseas.

  In the 1940s, under Knorr's reign, the People's Pulpit Association was reorganized under the Watchtower Bible and Tract Society of New York, while the parent branch in PA became the Watch Tower Bible and Tract Society of PA.

  There is actually a Watchtower Bible and Tract Society incorporated in every state.

  They do this for safety reasons, if New York gets closed down, they can used the New Jersey corporation, if the New Jersey corp closes, they'll used the Florida corporation.

  A "Brother" wore a WT logo tie tack today

  after the meeting, a few people came up to show me some fake love like the wt lesson instructed (this is my 4th meeting in a row in over a year of not going, yuck!!).

  i noticed one of them was wearing a tie tack of the watchtower logo.

  its ok to idolize, by wearing, the corporate symbol of a worldwide multi-billion dollar company, but a cross is wrong?

  Actually Teel, a few years ago, the Watchtower sent a letter to all congregations telling them that they were to remove any logos on the building that are representative of the WtBTS.

  charles taze russell: his life and times: the man, the millennium and the message by fredrick zydek is the latest biography on pastor russell, and i must say i am very impressed.

  i have read other historiees on the pastor russell by zydek (all unpublished manuscripts) but this one is far better than the last one authored by charles redeker aq few years ago.

  zydek is a catholic.. the author is neither a bible student or a jehovah's witness.

  Actually Nat, it wasn't the author, but one of the BIble Students to whom the manuscript was entrusted, I sat with him a few years ago, when he told me the book was ready and looking for a publisher, I asked if I could look it over for accuracy, but he declined, I guess he may have felt he knew Bible Student history better than I did, I don't know.

  Like I said, I haven't read the whole book yet, I'm only a few chapters in the book. The book ends with Russell's death, none of the fanfare of what happened AFTER his death with Rutherford and the splits.

  I did find some errors, errors that could have been avoided if they had let me read the book before it went to the publishers. I remember asking, and I was told they had plenty of people looking at it for accuracy, well apparently not enough, when they repeatedly refer to Paton as George and not John and when they say the Photodrama is 3 parts and 5 hours, instead of 4 parts and 8 hours. Other than that, I like what I'm reading .... so far ....
