I had a roommate once who actually used this line:
"Wanna come up to my place and see my incredibly large.... collection
of bound volumes?"
For some reason, he never had much luck, although he did get a few laughs.
did you know that i was interested in you?
"i'm not interested".
"if you mean that you're not interested in having another boyfriend, i can understand that.

heres a way that i think shows that the witness idea that the "light is getter brighter " is flawed.. the reason often given for it being the case that jehovahs only reveals things graduly is that if he revealed things all at once it would be too much for a person to take.they would be "blinded" by the knowledge.. so on this reasoning then we must concluded that before 1995 people were not able to cope with the idea that "this generation" was not talking about poeple born in 1914, the light would have blinded them.. in that case why does this new light not blind people who come into the religon today?.
they have gone straight from the "darkness" into the most resently revealed light surely they must be blinded and would need first to learn all the past knowledge that is now considered wrong before they could cope with this new light.. this idea is so stupid.. children who are born today will learn straight away about the way the world works they will learn of gravity , spelling and maths in school.things that people living hundreds or thousands of years ago did not know.
since when has accurate knowledge "blinded" someone?.
I think that schools should also use this gradual method of revealing the truth.
In Grade one, children should be taught that the earth is flat. Then, over the
years, we could reveal to them that it is held on the back of a giant tortoise.
Eventually, they would learn that it is actually pizza shaped, then spherical
with the stars and planets orbiting around them. By the time they graduate,
they would have worked up to the current model.
I think that our education system has a lot to learn from the JW's.
you will love this from wol- the (* km has told all jw not to put up any sites since you don't know who you are dealing with the slave has spoken but the rank and file jw doesn't want to be obedient to the slave.
so they struggle as to how to be disobedient to the slave.
their comments reveal the sick mindset of the jw in action as they try to decide how to setup a forum.
Anyone who has to convince others that he is "normal" is certainly
not "normal".

I love this. For years, JW's have been pestering people in their homes
with unwanted visits. Now the tables have turned. Others are pestering
them in their private lives.
This is beautiful. It's kind of like the JW's are putting up a "No solicitations"
sign on their house because they don't want unwanted visitors.
A while ago, Jay Leno did a great joke about JW's. He said that he had heard
that Jehovah's Witnesses don't go trick or treating on Halloween. He guessed
it was because they didn't want people coming to their doors, bothering them
in their homes.
so what does everyone think about this whole human cloning thing our intreped scientists recently accomplished?
i haven't read up enough and discussed enough to formulate a rock solid opinion on all the ins and outs of the whole issue, and i like to have rock solid opinions on just about everything (but i don't push my views on anyone or consider opposing views "wrong," that's something else i have a strong opinion about).
i have been away for a few days so if this has been covered, please accept my appologies for the repetition and direct me to the appropriate subject heading.
Human cloning cannot be stopped. The benefits - both medically
and economically, are too great.
The incentive to take advantage of this new knowledge is so large
that even if the fundies are successful at stopping research in
one country, it will simply move to another. With over 200
political jurisdictions, some country (in fact many countries),
will welcome the research and development.
This is probably the biggest scientific breakthrough in the history
of the world. It is impossible to stop.
what would happen if bethal closed tomorrow?.
what do you think.how would witnesses react?.
do you think they would just carry on as normal or take it as a sign that they were wrong?.
Well, for one thing, if Bethel closed down, there would be no more
magazines. That means that individual congregations would need to
continue using "old light", and start reading the Bible and thinking.
This would lead to small, fractured groups that are all moving in different
directions. Most JW's would not be able to stand the void. Without
constant reinforcement, their doctrines would start to fall. Anarchy would
ensue.
In other words, without a strong top-down authority structure, the whole thing
would fall apart. Either that or turn into something much nicer and more
sensible - but that will never happen.
i am amazed at some of the things that jws in the states worry about that canuck jws do not worry about.
chaperones are one area.. i remember reading in the mags that dating couples should have chaperones but have never heard of it being practiced, except in the u.s.. in canada, we figure if you are strong enough in the truth, you don't need a chaperone.
does some hanky-panky happen from time to time?
Hey skeptic, I live in Saskatchewan, and I also spent 2 1/2 years in
Winnipeg. Do we know each other?
this week there have been special elder training meetings.
anyone know what these are about?
Our elder's school will run next weekend. I don't think this is anything
out of the usual.

Speaking as a Canadian, I can testify that the chaperon policy is still
alive and well in some parts of Canada. At least it was when I was dating.
There was considerable evasion being done, but looking back, I don't know
why we put up with it at all.
i was talking with a jw a few days ago, and he said that current events (natch) convinced him more than ever that soon the nations will turn on religion, and the great tribulation will begin.
he said that the current hatred felt toward islamic extremists, plus columnists pointing out christian extremists (i.e.
abortion clinic bombers) are also dangerous, mean that soon the tide will turn and all religion will be viewed as bad.. i responded that although extremists are hated, i've been amazed at how carefully the governments have differentiated between extremists and muslims in general.
In the immediate aftermath of the tragedy, the exact opposite was seen.
Churches were full, the President sang God Bless America, and he even
recommended that people go to church and pray. It seems that in times
of trouble, people turn to religion for comfort and answers.
As the immediate scare dies down, there will be some backlash against
religion for its role in the tragedy. However, I don't see this as anything
more than an on-going, slow deterioration of the influence of religion. And good
riddance.
The Witnesses will make hay for a while, but when it all dies down, it will just be
one more disappointment. As Proverbs says "Expectation postponed is making
the heart sick."
