  I think you have the unit conversion wrong. One day is actually 7,000
  years. No, wait, I believe the formula is "a day for a year". And how long
  are his years - 360 days or 365 days? Or is a day possibly just a long,
  but indeterminate period? On the other hand, it could be just a day.

  Thanks for the reference, Betweenworlds. There are a couple of other
  articles in the mid-seventies. I am certain that one of them refers to
  literal deaths at Armagedon. I will check the specific one that I had
  in mind and post it (unfortunately, not until Wed).

  In the meantime, I notice that the 1975 article referred to those of
  "Christendom and Jewry". Yesterday's article refers to JW's who
  defect. So, we now have three interpretations of this scripture.

  at your side. You may be familiar with the scripture, since a song
  is based on it.

  The last meaningful reference that I could find on this scripture was
  from the 1975 WT. At that time, the application was that this
  referred to those killed at Armageddon.

  It now appears to refer to those who fall away from the truth. So,
  yet another scripture gets relegated to the dustbin of figurativeness.
  If this keeps up, there will be no literal beliefs left. Maybe Armageddon
  itself will soon be spiritual. In fact, maybe it's already happened.

  let me explain.. firstly i have seen any number of so-called attempted suicides.

  i've walked past an old girl friends house, seen her watching tv through the window, by the time i'm knocking on the door she's told me that she had her head in the gas oven and my knock stopped her.. my mother in law walks into the sea for a pastime.

  every time she can't get her own way she walks in up to her knees and waits for someone to see her.

  I'm getting a little off topic, now, but I have to add this comment
  about home schooling.

  A family in my city with three boys, switched over to home
  schooling. One of the young girls in the cong asked one of
  the boys about the things they do for each subject.

  For field trips, they would go to the park accross the street,
  or in the field service. But best of all, for math, his answer
  was "We play the occasional game of Yahtzee."

  Needless to say, their experiment in home schooling went
  terribly wrong over the years. The boys got involved in drugs,
  flunked most of their standardized tests, and all ended up
  back in school, set back substantially.

  Do you have these stories organized into any sort of collection?
  I would be interested in reading the complete works.

  I read a lot (literally 1000's of books), and I am about half done writing
  my own book (one chapter has actually been published), and I have
  to say that some of your stories are better than many of the published
  books I have read.

  I also think that many of them, such as the above story, could appeal
  to non-Witnesses. They have a human appeal that transcends the
  setting of the Kingdom Hall. If you formatted them into a bit of a
  thread, basing them around a fictional character, and used the JW
  lifestyle as nothing more than the setting, you could widen the appeal
  of the book.

  I think there would be considerable interest in reading about the inside
  life of a JW, as long as the book does not become preachy, either on
  the positive or negative side.

  Give it some thought. I would be happy to read your stuff and offer
  suggestions.

  Practice of JW concerning Facial Hair

  im relatively new to the board, but i wanted other people's opinions.. growing up in "the organization" i pretty much blindly adhered to all instruction as a teenager.. as i got a little older, as most here im sure, i began to see how some practices were imposed on the flock without any biblical backing.. one that bugged the living hell out of me was the restriction of being allowed to grow facial hair.. i was literally removed from carrying the mics and reading at bookstudy because my sideburns were too long and i wanted to grow a goatee, hence i often showed up with stubble.

  i was taken to the back room and told i was being "too worldly.

  " when i questioned the elders why it was unallowed by the society and that i wanted scriptural evidence and backing for their imposed regulations, i was scoffed at and told i should do as i am told.. i told them where they could stick their "priviledges" .

  Now it all makes sense. I must admit I have been exceptionally
  powerful, dominant, and virile lately.

  Actually, the comment about the subconcious psychology of
  changing one's face was very interesting. Maybe, I am at a turning
  point, and am subconciously planning an escape.

  Yes, we do.

  JW's use a language that is all their own. Quite often, a simple
  phrase that means nothing to someone else, will tip off a JW's
  identity.

  If nothing else, the polyesther suit from the early 70's is a sure sign.
