I definitely agree - you think not (at all).

Don't forget that around 90% of all baptisms are children of witnesses. You don't need to go from door to door to talk to your kids. So, you can actually multiply their efficiency (inefficiency) numbers by a factor of ten.

Have you ever had a prayer answered?
by nicolaou inprayer topics seem to be the bandwagon of the moment so i'm jumping on!
seriously, has anyone here asked for something specific in prayer and actually gotten what they asked for?
what convinces you that you wouldn't have got it in any case?

"And how would you 'serve' him?"
I would go with a registered letter, care of Santa Clause. -

LASER GUNS AND CHILDREN......
by Mary inmy co-worker came in this morning and we were just talking about our weekend and she told me that she and her husband took their kids to this park where they arm you with laser guns, you go into this maze with the lights turned down low and some sort of shield on and when you come across someone you shoot them with the laser gun.
obviously no one gets injured and she said it was "great fun", but i was somewhat shocked that she took her kids to this as they are 5, 8 and 9 years of age.
while adults can differentiate between realilty and fantasy, i find it somewhat disturbing that her 5 year old daughter is learning to have "fun" by stimulating shooting another human being.

I think it's very valuable preparation for the anarchy which will follow the nuclear war. Or perhaps, for the intergallactic war that we all know is coming, as soon as the aliens land.

Are you a fan of Ayn Rand works and/or Philosophy?
by Eyebrow2 ini have done a lot of reading of rand's fiction, and have been reading a lot about her philosophy over the past several months.
i attend a local study group on her philosophy, and my family and i often attend get togethers that a local objectivist group puts on once or twice a month.. i am interested in talking with other ex witnesses that enjoy her work, and may be interested in discussing her philosophy.
i won't call myself an objectivist just yet, because i still am studying the philosophy.

I've read Atlas Shrugged, and found it to be a pretty decent book in its own right - not just a vehicle for her philosophy. She has some good points, but I think just tends to be just as idealistic about capitalism, as communists are about their ideas.
I started reading We The Living a couple months ago, and just couldn't do it. It was a little too dry, and after Atlas Shrugged, I could see where she was going, and didn't think I needed to take the long trip with her. -

The shopkeeper doesn't have $29. He charged $30 and refunded $3. So, he charged a net of $27 ($25 in the till and $2 in his pocket), which is the same as the kids paid.

The book where Sagan talks about the wacky prophetic failures of the JWs is Broca's Brain. I encountered that quote entirely by accident as I was reading his book, and was taken rather by surprise. I was still an active Witness at the time.

I should have known you were a Gnocctic - one of the first apostate groups. Heretic. My God shall boil you in lightly salted water for all eternity, followed by a sound blanching, to prevent stickiness.

Well, I have to say that I never thought of that before. I guess regrowing a limb is just a little too tough for the almighty.
And, as for linguini, it is a false God. Only spaghetti in its pure form is worthy of worship, for is it not written (on the back of the box) that "Satan transforms himself into an angel of pasta, to mislead the chewing ones?" -

need data
by mathead ini am currently doing a mathematical analysis on the remnant population.
(the number of partakers left).
i need the number of remnant for the last 15 years, preferably from the "year book" and the average age of the remnant in 2006. my initial work shows the population figures are tampered with.. i think i can pinpoint what the wts is doing here and how they come up with the figures they do.. thanks for any help here

I can save you a little time if you like. I've already done an actuarial calculation from 1970 to 2005, showing the expected and actual mortality rates. I used the GAM71 actuarial table, and assumed a likely minimum age for those chosen when the door was closed, and also an absolute minimum age. I can send the spreadsheet to you if you like.
