Further thoughts on the thread dealing with wandering Jews pooping outside the camp
by Doug Mason ini think the excellent thread on the wandering jews having to defecate outside the camp could have explored further implications, such as animal faeces, and also the fact that when women are in a group they cycle (menstruate) together.
imagine what the place was like with their attitude towards a menstruating woman, or with the disposal of the "rags".how did they dispose of all the placentas, etc.
?where are the skeletons of the millions of people and animals?

The size of the camp, for those in the UK, would be about three times the size of Birmingham. Just take a look at the size of Birmingham UK on google maps and triple it in your mind.
Imagine the fecal swamp that would be created overnight by 3 million people folding out yesterdays digested manna.
Now imagine squelching your sandalled feet through acres of colon created stinking bog and the accompanying fog of swarming flies, every time the camp moved location.
Pining for cucumbers would be the last thing on my mind, unless they were going to be used as bum plugs.

Praying for others?
by pixel ini’m looking for an article, from the watchtower, where it says that we should not pray for other members from the stage.
does anyone remember an article saying this?.

And yet it’s so much easier to pray for someone than actually help them out. You know, like friends or Christians would do.

The Holy Spirit made a mistake in selling off KHalls ?
by Splash ina couple of years ago the wt began their program of selling off dedicated kingdom halls and consolidating congregations into fewer halls.. had they kept these halls, more sparsely occupied as they were, they could by now be bringing everyone back while respecting the distancing laws.. jw’s love to find reasons how jehovah foresaw something and guided them, but it never works the other way when they make a decision that later on turns out to have been a bad idea..

Changed From "Disfellowshipped" to "No Longer One of Jehovah's Witnesses!
by Atlantis ina friend is trying to figure out the approximate date or letter, which indicated a change from the wording of public announcements.. they changed from saying the person has been disfellowshipped to saying that a person was no longer one of jehovah's witnesses.. i thought it was around the time of the bulgaria scandal.. could you help us out to remember when this change took place?
if we could remember the approximate year, we could look up all the boe's for that year and might find the letter.. many thanks!.
atlantis!.

Oh yes, they used to announce the reason:
w54 10/1 p. 595 par. 17 Christians Live the Truth
If announcements are made to congregations concerning someone who refuses to pay debts or who is going around taking money or other things from individuals in the congregation, the congregation servant should be the one to make the announcement and he should be careful to avoid wording something in a slanderous way but merely report the facts as they exist or that a person has been disfellowshiped for dishonesty or fraud. Then those who are in the congregation can be aware of what is going on and will be able to protect their own interests and the interests of their brothers. "His wickedness shall be openly showed before the assembly."
So the above article suggests that even after someone had been DF'd they were still able to continue interactions with the congregation.

Publisher's Record Cards
by Faded4good inokay, i haven't been to a meeting in over 17 years and i don't live anywhere near the place i grew up.
i have had minimal contact with my jw family, essentially just occasional phone conversations.
i think they could easily guess that i'm inactive but they pretend not to know and they've never shunned me.

If your mother finds out and threatens to shun you, point out that you've not been to a meeting in 17 years and during that time you have not done anything 'apostate' to endanger her, neither will you do so in the future.
If she realizes that you are not the danger that the WT portray you to be she may yet be reasonable.

The Myth of being "Spirit Appointed"
by BluesBrother inback in the first century we read that the apostles would "lay their hands" on someone and the holy spirit would be imparted to that one.
appointments of older men were made in this way - at that time.
in modern times the wts has claimed that their own elders ,min.

“gifts in men” include... ministerial servants.
We had a brother baptised and later appointed as a Ministerial Servant all the while he was secretly sexually abusing a child in the congregation.
Just explain how Holy Spirit works again?
Isn’t it the unforgivable sin to blaspheme the Holy Spirit? -

Latest awake on JW.org
by aboveusonlysky inthe latest awake (no 3 2020) on jw.org is just breathtaking, it's about prejudice and gives the following 3 examples which i will one by one attemp to debunk.. awake - some employers have mistakenly believed that women are unqualified for scientific or technical jobs.. erm... women are not only forbidden from elder or m/s appointment, they're not even considered qualified enough to adjust the height of a brother's microphone, you were saying?.....
awake - in medieval europe, jews were falsely accused of poisoning wells and spreading disease.
during nazi rule, jews were again slandered.

Just to add to your first comment:
Awake - Some employers have mistakenly believed that women are unqualified for scientific or technical jobs.
Golden Age (previous name of Awake!) 1937 27/1 p.259-260
"God made man to perform the most intricate and difficult tasks in life; his wife to be a help, suitable to her less exacting sphere. It is no reflection upon the fair sex to record the simple truth that the finest surgical work is done by men. ... At Sanford, Maine, is a factory for the making of the finest, most costly, most luxurious velvets... No woman has ever been able to qualify for the job." -

Waco Mini-Series on Netflix. Powerful and Scary.
by Simon inso we binge-watched the waco mini-series on netflix.. wow, what a powerful and enlightening programme!
even if you think you know what happened, it gives you extra context to it all.
it's very well done even if you just want a great drama series, but it's way more than that.. there are of course some dramatization and slight historical inaccuracies for the purpose of story-telling but it was very informative.

Simon - The one thing I hate about Netflix is how everything is regionalized. That and the auto-play of previews.
You can turn off auto preview in the settings!
