  i've been browsing here for some time now and i've read the erroneous arguments supporting 587, the petty feelings over the un, blah blah blah.

  this is a community of disgruntled people telling each other what they want to hear.

  you've all essentially created your own truth, tickling your own ears.

  TheoSed, do you not do exactly this within your congregation every time a doctrine changes?

  Do you not say to one another "Yes, this new light seems so reasonable and correct, the old light so obviously wrong".

  Then when the new light reverts back to old light do you not repeat the exact same phrase to each other?

  Tell me TheoSed, who really seeks to reassure one another's falsehoods?

  You will find that this forum encourages discussion, not suppresses it.

  Here there is no need of hypnotic nodding in agreement out of fear of being viewed as weak or disorderly or worse. No fear here.

  I recognise that anger - you have learned something that you cannot reconcile, so now you lash out.

  When your powers of reasoning reluctantly accept the many facts, yes facts, on here, you will begin healing.

  Trauma is a terrible thing, many on this board have been through what you are feeling.

  They didn't 'kill' the witnessing work, they "as much as killed" it.

  The wording used is highly significant.

  Anyone know why?

  The number ten being a Biblical number symbolizing earthly completeness, the ten toes picture all such coexisting powers and governments.

  There does not appear to be any prophetic significance to the image’s having ten toes. This is a natural human feature, just as the image has two arms, two legs, and so forth.

  Para 11. when describing the image, Daniel does not mention the number of toes. Therefore, the number seems no more significant than the fact that the image had multiple arms, hands, fingers, legs, and feet.

  A few things puzzled me in this WT this week.

  1. Para 16 : " An increasingly vocal and militant group of Western intellectuals is calling for the end of religion’s influence on society."

  I'd like to know who these are.

  2. Para 9: " Daniel 2:41 describes the mixture of iron and clay as one “kingdom,” not many. The clay, therefore, represents elements within the sphere of influence of the Anglo-American World Power"

  I would say the Anglo-American power is two kingdoms working together, not the one kingdom as stressed by the paragraph.

  3. If Britain was notable enough to be depicted as a little horn, and this arrived in the 1700's to complete it's plucking of three nations, why do we say it only became noteworthy as the 7th world power in 1914 when it had already began it's decline? All the other beasts in Daniel conquered the preceding beasts, so why does the last one have to wait 1500 years after the fall of Rome, before it becomes significant?

  I don't think this has been mentioned before, but I had a thought about Acts 15:20, and it's all about the context:

  Act 15:21 For from ancient times Moses has had in city after city those who preach him, because he is read aloud in the synagogues on every sabbath."

  The key word here is the first word in verse 21: "for" (gk 'gar' Strongs G1063).

  According to Strongs it means 'because', 'therefore'. It assigns a reason as to why something is done.

  So Paul was saying 'don't do these things, because it will upset the other Jews'. He was looking to maintain harmony in an era where jews and gentiles were coming together with new teachings.

  By the mouth of Paul, it has nothing to do with violating Gods commands, but everything to do with keeping the peace in the congregations!

  today is my first anniversary as a jwn member.

  it's hard to believe that only a year has passed since i joined, but i feel that's a testament to how much i have been welcomed and made to feel like part of the furniture.. i would very much like to take this opportunity to thank everyone on the forum for the immense help and assistance i have received, particularly in my first few weeks/months of posting.

  it truly was a lifeline at a very distressing time for me.
