i haven't seen the 2014 yearbook on the jw site yet.
i'm looking to see if the number of partakers has increased again (as it has for many years now).
anyone have a scan of it yet?.
You're correct Comatose.
Besides, if it was just replacements, one would drop off and another would replace them - the number would not increase.

Thanks OTWO, I have to admit, my involuntary ducking has got out of control recently.
No substances involved, the context was relating a story I had heard while on holiday.
But with irrefutable and insightful explanations like 'ABSOLUTELY NOTHING HAPPENED', I know where to come the next time something (doesn't) happen.

the 2013 edition of the new world translation renders 2 kings 17:1 as:.
in the 12th year of king ahaz of judah, hoshea the son of elah became king over israel in samaria; he ruled for nine years.. this is in fact a better rendering than the previous nwt, which stated:.
in the twelfth year of ahaz the king of judah, hoshea the son of elah became king in samaria over israel for nine years.. despite their improved rendering, the watch tower society still claims that hoshea's reign 'really' began in 758 bce, but that it was 'established' in the 12th year of ahaz.
Just posted this recent WT quote on a different thread, but it fits perfectly here too.
Oh the WT irony!!!

in order to "scripturally justify" j.f.
rutherford's rebranding of the bible students by the creation of a designer name which made them stand out from other bible students, the nwt deceptively misuses a verse to perpetuate the falsehood of the unscriptural name, "jehovah's" witnesses!.
(james 2:7) "they blaspheme the fine name by which you were called,* do they not?".
This will only increase with the use of epub publications on tablets.
With these you simply tap the cited verse and it pops up in isolation - no context around it.

I would quite like an alternative explanation for my experience.

committeechairman - thanks for that insight. It's good to know that the right steps were taken. I can imagine what a relief that must have been to you.
I wonder if this is new direction, since there was a very public case recently where it appears the opposite advice was given to the elders:

what scriptures do the elders use to say they are in a position over you and can judge you and can make you go to them for reinstatement etc???
.
Heb 13:17: "Be obedient to those who are taking the lead among YOU and be submissive"
This word 'obedient' in the greek is peithō which means 'to be convinced by argument'.
It is very different to Eph 6:1 "Children, be obedient to YOUR parents"
This word 'obedient' in the greek is hupakouō which means 'to be subordinate to, to conform to authority'
Let's look at the context around Heb 13:17:
Heb 12 gives examples that we should look to and 'consider closely'.
Heb 13:7 "Remember those who are taking the lead among YOU, who have spoken the word of God to YOU, and as YOU contemplate how [their] conduct turns out imitate [their] faith. "
This says we should 'contemplate' those taking the lead. In other words, also 'consider them closely' to see how their conduct turns out.
Then if it meets with scriptural precedent we follow them (vs 17) because we are convinced.
In simple terms, we obey our parents but we are persuaded by those taking the lead.
The word 'Obey' does not correctly convey the meaning of Heb 13:17, as Barnes puts it:
"They were to show them proper respect, and to submit to their authority in the church, so far as it was administered in accordance with the precepts of the Saviour."
