more haphazard thougths on the recently concluded elder school..... a big chunk of time was spent on a video which traced a judicial case, all the way from the confession to the elders through the decision to disfellowship the guy.. here is a very brief synopsis of the video:.

tearful late-teen or early-20's publisher confesses to 2 elders that he committed fornication with a "worldly girl" who is now preganant and wants to marry him.

the elders give him some "homework" to do prior to his judcial committee - read psalm 51 and an old wt article.

This cracks me up. Even with these crucial matters they just mention evidence instead of showing it. Sometimes real life is the best comedy.

@Cedars: sure makes lots of sense that the three and a half days are nine months. The bible doesn't seem to be more than a tool to make their silly ideas work, nothing more. The earth is flat, it has to be! If science today worked the same way...

Here are my thoughts. I don't really like this question, same goes for the question about what someone's goals are. Though I know it's not the case here, usually the people who ask you that tend to want you to serve their purpose, to live up to their expectations. Often it was Elders or super "spiritually mature" folks who asked these questions and use it in a way to superficially judge your character. People that want you to serve a purpose that may not really be yours. It's a question that often comes with this undertone of "if you don't know your purpose, I/we will gladly help you out and force our ideas and purpose on you. Don't just waste your life, waste it for us".

Purpose is one of these loaded words. I'm no longer sure that life really has a purpose. We can think about purpose all day long forgetting to just live and appreciate what we have. And even if we think our life does have a purpose many things are far beyond our control.

A year ago I read this article about the Temple Square: http://vigilantcitizen.com/sinistersites/sinister-sites-temple-square-utah/ It's a "nutter" site, so it may seem crazy, but the photos are still interesting and the interpretation makes me wonder.

As crazy as JWs are at least they use the bible, though terribly applied rather often. The book of Mormon is a whole other level, it's like reading a SciFi/Fantasy book written hundreds of years ago. And they base their theology and doctrine on that.
