sal, it's funny but things were much more shallow in the dubs.
i noticed some of the ugliest blokes getting pretty little trophy wives so long as they had a job or were the sons of elders.
my dad (an elder) even went so far as to encourage me to come back to the dubs because i would easily pull a good looking wife .

I like some of the cycling especially the Keirin - that's mad. I enjoyed the road cycling as I reguarly drive along major parts of the route so it was good to see. I was going to go and watch it yesterday but had to prioritise some other bits.
Sailing is good.
BMX is good.
Men's 100m is gearing up to be a must watch.
Phelps getting butchered yesterday was a good watch as well.
Some of the rowing is also pretty interesting but then again perhaps that because there is alot of British talent in this area.
I'm not a follower of most of the sports but am an overall sports fan so do enjoy watching anyone at the peak of their discipline. I watched a bit of gym yesterday - mens parallel and floor - amazing to see what these people can do. I watched some handball as well. Never seen it before but that was pretty fun.
I will be flicking through most of the sports on and off over the next two weeks. Dunno about the rest of the world but we can watch multiple events on TV and there is lots online as well.

meant to say as well that I do prefer the winter olympics - they are more interesting events to watch as there is generally more speed.

I have to disagree that the music section was out of place.
It gave an opportunity to pay respects to all that has been great about British music of the past 30 years. Even Dizzie Rascal (as much as I can't stand him) had a relevance being a local boy and representing a genre of music that comes from the east end of London. I personally think jungle/drum & bass was more ground breaking than grime but the king of DnB, Roni Size, is not from London. Then again neither is McCartney but they rolled him out in preference to Bowie, who is.
Any sequence of music that includes The Jam, The Clash, Underworld, Stones, Happy Mondays, David Holmes, New Order, Brian Eno, Chemical Brothers, Floyd, The Beatles, The Specials, Frankie, Bowie, The Who (and on and on) can never be out of place! ;-)

I had a bit of chat with my wife last night after she was worried that I was less than enthusiastic about the ministry this morning. I expressed that I was slightly confused about the generations and how it's kept changing despite 1914 etc. being a core doctrine. I said that the FDS should be bolstering my faith in Jehovah but the lack of real clarity on this was actually hindering it - how could this be right?
She was very understanding but basically couldn't see the point about what question it brings up about the GB and FDS. Her basic response was that it doesn't really matter if they have it wrong. We need to concentrate doing what we need to do to make it into the new order regardless of when it comes and ultimately where else could we go?
My response is that I've never been one to look for a date or be concerned about speculating but the point is not about what Jehovah's intentions are but what we are submitting to by accepting the FDS as God's channel when they are looking less and less trustworthy. I used the example of us as parents and that if we expect our kids to sometimes just do as they are told without question we have to give them plenty of reasons and confidence to do that - help them build their trust in us as parents by being consistent and reliable.
I'm reading Captives atm and this is exactly what is being discussed in this book so hopefully there will be further info on how I can help my wife to see the real picture but any thoughts/experiences would be most appreciated.

As much as I loved it (see the other thread) I don't get why Paul McCartney is getting rave reviews. Don't get me wrong, I love the Beatles but McCartney can't hack it anymore. He missed his backing track which clearly he was going to mime/sing along to and his live voice was not up to the job on it's own. Of course he bravely pressed on but I felt really sorry for the guy as he sounded more like me singing it.
I also think that given the fact the rest of the show was full of unexpected surprises I think Boyle could have been a bit more inventive about which British music legend and song he used to close the ceremony.

The question for me on this as someone currently examining my faith and reasons for remaining an active Witness is what is the logical conclusion of accepting any other position than that presented by the society on Adam and Eve and by extension the whole creation account.
The reality is that if the account is in anyway wrong or not literal then the whole framework of the society's doctrine collapses. Personally, I am finding it increasingly hard to rest my faith in something that is countered by so much contemporary science. Of course science is not flawless and it would be foolish to simply accept everything that is said in the name of science but surely it is dogmatic ignorance to simply dismiss every facet of a scientific position simply because it doesn't support the Bible 100%.
It's true many scientists are atheist or agnostic and not out to prove the Bible's position but that does not mean they are out to disprove it either. Generally they are just looking for deepening mankinds' understanding of what is around us, furthering our knowledge.
I for one wish the society would be far more open with seeking to harmonise established scientific theories (and I mean theory rather than hypothosis) with the Bible instead of ignoring the points raised and just appealing to blind faith.
do members of a congregation usually snitch on each other for "sinful behaviour" a fellow member is caught doing ?.

During the book study this week it was brought out by someone in the cong that young ones could emulate Paul's newphew by grassing up their double life mates. He went and told the Romans about a plot by the Jews to ambush Paul and kill him. Young ones now can do the same by telling the elders if they know something wrong is going on.
See there is a parallel in everthing - now young ones can be part of the "Bold Nephew Class".
This is the same meeting in which it was shown that prayer is a mighty powerful thing when some brothers locked up in Rawanda prayed for the CO to visit them and lo and behold one was arrested and locked up with 'em.

Except in most (all?) lands now it's voluntary donations. Not everyone contributes so it's left up to a minority to pay. I would be amazed if revenues are not dropping down year on year in western lands even though the society as a whole is swimming in spons.
The work will still not stop though, just change (as it is) to be more cost efficient.
