I share some of your opinions SkyGreen - I have a really good marriage and I do think the upbringing we both had has made a massive contribution. I certainly would not have met my wife if I had not been a witness.
i don't resent my upbringing but I do wish I had seen the light earlier and not wasted so much time involved in pointless activities.

emailed PDF's count as placements!
by wallsofjericho insorry if this has already been discussed.. but at the service meeting this week on jw.org it was clearly stated by our cobe that pdf's from jw.org that are emialed to interested persons count as placements!!!.
okay folks, next time you get a circular spam email, copy all the recipients and there is your contact list.
email thousands of people watchtower pdf's and watch the placements soar through the roof!!!.

2012 report analysis - growth of JWs according to local internet availability
by cedars inhi everyone.
i did a similar chart to the one below last year, but this year i thought i'd make it slightly more meaningful by giving the statistics across three years rather than just one.. hopefully it's fairly self explanatory.. i'm making the data i've used available in a separate pdf download for those who are interested.. .

Hi Cedars. Just to clarify I meant no critism of your info in my last post. It was just a response to Shadow. I think the visualisation of these figures does speak for itself and any number of measures based around education, access to information, acceptance of non religious viewpoints etc. would mirror the trend.

Well, Shadow, I guess if you want to be really picky you could say that there is no evidence to back up the suggestion of a correlation. I doubt Cedars has done any peer reviewed research to investigate and prove that a population with a higher availability of Internet access per head is less likely to be experiencing growth in converts to the Jehovah's Witness faith. I also suspect that a similar graph would be produced if you looked at proportion of those with higher education certificate, those countries with more children in school before 6 years old, higher levels of literacy, levels of belief in God and the Bible in general v secular opionins or any other number of comparators.
That does not mean there is not a link and you don't need to have a statistics degree to see that growth is lowest in countries with the best access to education and information. It will be blindingly obvious to the GB that the cash rich western sheep are (a) not so cash rich anymore and (b) stagnating. The growth that there is in the west is in the foreign language population. Brothers in western lands are tiring and either becoming more hardcore or just drifting. I am not predicting the end of the org anytime soon but I don't think their old school tactics of slow change over time will continue to work for much longer.

by cedars ini've just started munching through the figures for 2012 in the new 2013 yearbook, now available on jw.org.. i thought you might be interested to see which countries saw "negative growth" over 2012.. these are as follows.... .
*sudan is so dramatically reduced because south sudan is now independent and the society has adjusted the publisher figures accordingly.. .

70 JWs in horrific crash on way to a Convention
by Nambo inentire family, 20 others die in fatal accidenttragedy struck weekend in akwa ibom state as a man, his wife and all their children, as well as more than 20 others, all members of the jehovahs witness church, perished in a fatal road accident which occurred, friday, along the utu etim ekpo road in etim ekpo local government area of the state.. forty other members of the church sustained varying degrees of injuries following in the crash which occurred on their way to the jehovahs witness annual convention ground in ikot ekpene local government area of the state.. thisdays gathered that more than 70 members of the church had hired a lorry to convey them from ukanafun local government area to ikot ekpene for the annual district convention which began on friday and billed to end today (sunday) but the journey ended half way with many members of the church dying on the road in the accident.. eyewitnesses alleged that the driver of the lorry conveying the church members to the venue of the convention lost control of the vehicle when he got to utu etim ekpo, the junction opposite the local government secretariat, and hit the stone used to construct the roundabout, thus resulting in the lorry somersaulting, leaving many of its passengers and others wounded.. the corpses and those injured in the accident were said to have been taken to neighbouring hospitals and mortuaries.. one of the eyewitnesses, mr. friday john, said the people who died may have been more than what was seen because a whole family including parents and their children were all trapped in the accident.. we were all here discussing when suddenly the lorry appeared and was looking like the driver had lost control of it.
then the lorry drove straight and hit the stone and somersaulted into the gutter.. many people died, more than 18. in fact, we couldnt count the number because there were many corpses, including husband, wife and children and they were all taken to the mortuary in various hospitals near etim ekpo here, john explained.. in another narration, a secondary school teacher in eka uruk eshiet etim ekpo, mr. ndipmo nkanta, said the lorry boarded by the deceased and the injured passengers was not meant for passengers but goods only.. he blamed the accident on poverty , arguing that if there was a better alternative, such casualties wouldnt have been recorded, especially as they were going to worship god.. the public relations officer of the federal road safety corps, frsc, in the state, mr. godsgift uwen, blamed the incident on over-speeding and overloading by the driver of the lorry.. he said the lorry was not supposed to carry any passenger as it was a meant for goods only but the driver stubbornly used it as a passengers vehicle, which led to the sad incident.. he advised against rush and drunken driving, especially in the yuletide, noting that these are some of the major causes of accidents on the roads..

I note that the KM tonight stresses that the news section of jw.org helps us know what is going on and pray for brothers and sisters that are suffering. Sadly this tragic event STILL has not been reported on despite lots of coverage of the Miami coach crash and a note that a couple of witness kids were not harmed in the school shooting event.
Is this because of the unsafe mode of transport, the fact they were not kept safe by Jehovah on their way to an assembly or are African witnesses worth less than Americans?
Will this ever make the site?

@jwfacts. Interesting to note pub averages are up just over 30 hours. Could this be due to the March special effort which links the memorial invitation drop to auxiliary pioneering with a reduced requirement of 30 hours. This has been well supported with least 40% of publishers participating the last couple of years if UK figures are a good rule of thumb.
