Inky got a letter from her son.............you have to read this

our niece, irene, who posts here as inky, sent me an email.

her 27 year old son is getting married in two weeks, and she posted a few days ago about how he didn't invite her to his wedding.. she told me i can post it as she doesn't want to read it again.. "dear mom.

i've needed to write this letter to you for some time now.

Sorry for the late response, my heart just sank when I read this letter. Makena mentioned it to me a few days ago, and

we both had the same feeling...what we wouldn't give to have a mother as kind and wonderful as you are!! He just

is so blinded by the cult, what a shame.

My mother is still in the cult, and unfortunately extremely mentally ill all of her life.

Makena's mom past away over 10 years ago. She was so sweet and loved unconditionally, we miss her so much.

You are such a beautiful person (inside and out), so warm, kind, intelligent, funny. Makena and I just think the

world of you. The look in your eyes when we told you our story, it just melts my heart when I remember. You hang in there,

and continue being the exceptionally loving mother you are. He will live to regret that letter someday!

Wine of the Month - Approved by Ozzie.

today i dined and wined with mr. and mrs. ozzie.

i had a marvelous time.

both are wonderful people, and i have enjoyed myself immensely with them.

Why thank you very much for the recommendation. My hubby Makena has quite a wine cellar but we mostly know California and Washington wines. I am never satisfied with American Syrah's, so I appreciate your input on Auzzie wines!

This should be a regular topic, are there enough wine lovers to keep it going? We are visiting Napa/Sonoma in September, if there is anything fantastic we will report back.

One funny wine story, there was a JW in California that did infomercials on buying foreclosure properties and making $$. Well, our last trip to Napa there is a new winery by the same name. Turns out to be the same guy. We asked the employee that helped us if the winery was owned by a JW. He said "yeah, but I'm a Methodist, he still lets me work here" with a smirk on his face. I won't advertise the name, but darn it was excellent wine.

Christian Longo testified on Court TV today

christian longo, the disfellowshipped jw, who is accused of killing his wife and three children, is testifying now (9:50am pst) on court tv.

he is explaining the teachings of jw's.

the commentators jump in occasionally.

The common factor here is the de-personalization that the WTS engenders, the sociopathic perspective on life and death that goes hand-in-hand with "we're God's chosen people, and the rest of the world is doomed" mentality.
I'm no psychiatrist, but I'd say Longo was a sociopath. His religion fundamentally fostered that weakness, indirectly perhaps, but in ways that are not mere speculation.

Very well stated Craig, this is what I was trying to express in my email to Court TV.

Are sociopaths born or made, I don't know. The responses I got when my daughter died from JWs was just as chilling as watching Mr. Longo testify. I even mentioned to the elders that one young witness in particular was displaying sociopath behaviors, and they came down hard on me for even thinking such a thing. She was my daughter's best friend and was instumental in her getting involved with the young crowd of "double lifer's" as I called them back then. My daughter wrote her a suicide note which she to this day has never come to my home to read. She was seen by several JWs laughing and having a good time at a party the day after my daughter's death...it just seemed so horribly insensitive. But instead on focusing on what could have driven my daughter to kill herself, it was much easier to blame me since I was questioning the elder's part in it and the fact that most of the young JWs in my local congregation were living secret lives because of the unrealistic rules and restrictions placed on them.

court tv is televising the longo trial, he was a disfellowshipped jw that killed his family in oregon last year.

i emailed them about my experience, my daughter completed suicide after the elders threatened to disfellowship her.

i also mentioned the bryant family murder suicides in oregon, the husband was disfellowshipped and in a desperate financial situation like longo about 18 months ago.. court tv excepts emails from viewers and sometimes airs them.

Oh boy, this is why I rarely post anymore...I am not good at expressing myself somehow. I in no way excused his behavior, in my email (which I wasn't savvy enough to save) to court tv I said he seemed to be a textbook case of a sociopath. I mentioned that it is not an isolated case where being disfellowshipped leads to desperate/tragic outcomes. I stated what happened to my daughter as an example.

I think his disassociated/bland demeanor is very typical of what I have come across with JWs. When my daughter died, it became even more evident. Being part of a cult where you cannot think for yourself leads to this type of deadpan/lack of empathy behavior. Many of my former "friends" had to call the local elders to ask how they should respond to the death of my daughter, someone they knew for years as one of the best examples of a "fine young witness". They can't think for themselves, they don't even have normal reactions/emotions....

My intention was not in anyway to excuse Mr. Longo, just to stir the pot, so to speak, maybe spark curiosity by mentioning other murder/suicides committed by disfellowshiped jws. I think his being raised a jw has a lot to do with his personality. I knew brothers who had parents that totally spoiled them, provided them with jobs and money, tried to shield them from the real world, Mak and I did janitorial work for a couple of these brothers and they tried to screw us out of money and just had an attitude that the world revolved around them...Mr. Longo reminds me of several of these brothers, it sends chills down my spine.

Meta - another very good, thought provoking post. Many good replies (Lady Lee, Danny Bear etc) that will require a second read when my brain is more alert. In my 40 years, I saw a lot of those characters at the hall and in my own family.

Got a chuckle too about the 14 year old Barbie who wrote her name over and over again. I would write the name of my girl friend, or someone I met at an assembly that caught my eye, throughout my bookstudy publication. Forgot about that.

They came to our house today in field service

dave and i were in the driveway, when we noticed about 4 groups of two walking up our street.

uh oh.........the dubs are coming!.

we both ducked into the house, but they came to the door!!!!!!!!!

kind of similiar to minimus question, this one got me thinking.. the funniest for me has to be the elders telling me i should buy a 4-door car for field service and not to buy a camaro.

i almost believed them.

telling me in would not be proper to drive that in field service.

Some of the stupidest counsel I got was inspired by jealous elder's wives...

One elder (whose wife was very overweight and constantly asking me how much weight I was losing) actually called me into the back room and told me to stop my diet and exercise immediately...I was obviously becoming anorexic...at 130 lbs, come on! She would poop her pants if she saw me now, cause I'm a buff 116lbs now, and a personal trainer.

Thanks for the update, I've been looking for French Open coverage. Good for Henin, it gets boring when the same person wins all the time. I will be Belgian for the day and root for her....
