OK, I'm very happily married, but...the type of pick up lines that make an impression on me are when guys comment that I obviously work out. Two guys at a restaurant told me I had great triceps (I was lugging huge shopping bags at the time, and well, my triceps were flexed). I guess this is one area I'm vain enough about to be flattered when others notice. Pretty sad, right?

I love, love, love animals! I think it's the only thing about giving up the paradise dream that I'm still upset about.
I was a city kid growing up in the Bronx, the only highlight of my life was that my mom took me to the Bronx zoo almost every weekend. I lived in apartments that didn't allow pets most of my life. Five years ago I finaly got to fulfill my lifelong dream of having my own dog. I got an adorable bishon frise, I named Beau. He was only eight months old when my daughter died, and with all the trauma, I couldn't housetrain him, so I got totally overwhelmed one day and gave him up for adoption...OH I REGRET THAT!!
Well, Makena has promised to get me a new bishon puppy for our anniversary this year (Sept.), I can't wait.

This thread got me thinking that I used to be so creative, I need to get back to my crafts. I used to love sewing and quilting, knitting, I used to make bead jewelry and did cross stitching. I don't know what happened, I guess school took up a lot of my time the last two years. My "hobbies" now mostly consist of working out, playing tennis and when in Hawaii, body surfing and snorkling. I also enjoy reading all sorts of fiction.

What pisses you off about elders wives?
by bay64me in.
the elders wife that really pisses me off, is the one that would boastfully announce that jehovah had provided her husband with a part-time teaching job, emphasising that his employment was "on the line" each year....but thanks to jehovah,(in other words) we are so fucking loyal and do many hours in field service and things that nobody could possibly know about ( but i'm letting you know indirectly) so my husband has an income to assist us in our pioneer service!

My mom cleaned the houses of the other wives in the congergation for grocerie money.
My mom worked as a seamstress all week long, with a back brace on, and on the weekends the "loving" elder's wives expected her to do alterations for them for free. Oh yes, one time a sister invited her over for dinner as payment. She served her canned tuna!!!
I agree with you plmkrzy, it does stink!!

Theocratic Warfare at my house part 3, the end
by freeman inthank you all who responded to my earlier post, i am pleased to say there has been a major development.
just twenty minutes ago i was sitting at the piano and my wife comes up to me and says, "i talked to the brothers, you were absolutely right, i apologize, he (my minor son) will never go to the meetings again".
i sat there in stunned shock both happy and sad at the same time.

Freeman, I feel for you. It does seem like a hollow victory, but I personally would do anything to get young, impressionable kids out of this cult.
(((Big hugs to you and your son))).

In my experience, where were two types:
The jealous ones that hated anyone attractive and thin. I had elders talk to me about being too thin and about my hairdo drawing too much attention to myself. I actually wore my hair in a bun for years...how stupid am I?! Big coincidence that these elders had fat, homely wives.
And the ones that were always fishing for information they could repeat to their husbands. Don't even get me started on this one.

Who Here Believes in God?
by The_Bad_Seed inpersonally, i do not believe god ever has or ever will exist.
i have my reasons -- i guess i could be considered an agnostic, rather than an athiest.
i was curious to see what the larger part of the former borg community believed, now looking from the outside in, rather than the opposite.

Intellectually, I say probably not. But, if I were in a foxhole I just might start praying like crazy!!
BTW, I notice lately I feel like the kid in Annie Hall that told the shrink "the universe is expanding". What's the use??
