Thanks everybody! Makes it pretty clear! That letter to the body of elders metions 4 years at university. Gerrit from GB said recently that is was the "bullet operation" to pursue higher education in general, without any specs of how many years. That is not according to the letter to body of elders. Why is he not accused of apostacy when he goes beyond what wts learn? I thought they cared about membership numbers. He just ruined the beliefs of 100 of witnesses in my country.

Seems to be a pretty unfair game. I got my education, I just disagree with GB in comparing education with the "bullet operation"

what happened to the watchtower society's emphasis on learning your bible, developing a stronger doctrinal foundation and providing talks that were relevant in peoples lives?

previous threads have questioned the lack of discussion/debate young or old witnesses will engage at your door.

the solution lies in the down sizing of deep bible based talks, real substance discussed at meetings has gone away.

This is their reasoning about why serving McDonalds food. The real reason maybe a little different. WT has allways claimed to be based solely on the Bible. Now that it is obvious that their day-to-day philosophy has no support in the Bible and also has damaged thousands of witnesses lives, they may not want any deeper discussion about their beliefs. Adding the fact that wikipedia gives a fair and balanced view of their history, few educated people would study to be a witness these days. The McDonalds food are reflecting that they focus on weaker people without education nor the ability of critical thinking. It's a shame. Also, their trapped of the FDS doctrine, building lie upon lie. Debate and sound discussion of bibilical topics are no longer of interest and they therefore warn witnesses against this.

i had a bit of chat with my wife last night after she was worried that i was less than enthusiastic about the ministry this morning.

i expressed that i was slightly confused about the generations and how it's kept changing despite 1914 etc.

being a core doctrine.

In a healthy enviroment you have debate, discussion and critical thinking. Who would get medical treatment at a hospital where doctors are shunned for evalueting new scientific evidence?
Some basic principles can be regarded as "true". For instant that life is sacred and that christian love should be the fundamental motivation. Also, some consensus would be appropriate concerning "doctrine", otherwise people would be pretty confused.
But, there is no conflict between an open and honest enviroment which allows sound debate and consensus regards to some basic true principles.
Jesus said that you will know a tree based on it's fruits. Good tree makes happy and prosperous people. Some trees are not either "good" or "bad". The fruit tastes okay, but nothing special. Those among jw who worship according to the bible, makes pretty ok fruit. Those who depend more on wt than the bible, are not so happy. To claim that it is the only truth, would demand a much higher level of honesty and bibleunderstanding than jw has today. The overall bibleknowledge is not that impressive.
I have went to meetings about 10 years all over, but have never had any friends who ever debated Luk 12:42-48 and the slave that misunderstood the asignement.

One of them held a speach for all the witnesses in my country some months ago. And compared higher education with shooting oneself in the head with a gun. After that, I think anybody over here has a licence to chill. But I feel a little bit sorry for those who actually believe the man and change their planes for the future or drop out of college or university because og fear and cognitive dissonance. I am stunned that no one takes that guy to court and askes for compensation due to mental and emotional stress and non-biblical learning. 1000 of witnesses have died to early beacuse of their doctrines. Great that Candice fought back!
