kudos to jwn roving correspondent sd-7 for his insightful comments in a recent thread.

as a result of his inspired utterance, i received a flash of insight that has allowed me to predict with uncanny accuracy the exact date for armageddon's arrival.

what follows are sd-7's comments and my calculations.

My response: You don't get it. With the WTS we start from the conclusion and work our ways back disregrading all contrary evidence. Get it? First world ended in 2370. Like first Adam/last Adam. Symmetry. Evidently, the big A will be in 2370. You were close. I could go into more detail but it would involve a lot of handwaving and youtube videos. Trust me.

It is like accepting that babylon was overthrown in 537, but not accepting 607.

That is not the same as (see Splane thread) 'love this idea', therefore it can not be true. I know specualtion is heresy, but I would have to say that it must be symmetrical. Thus, while 00DAD was in the ball park, the actual date (by my careful calculations) must be 2370 (AD/CE your choice).

The internet as a means of circulating "spiritual food"?

When You Were Sitting During The Meetings What Were You Really Thinkng About?

i used to listen to all the stupid comments and wonder if i could sneak out of there and scram!

even after i resigned as an elder, i went for a while and eventually began missing more and more meetings.

but while i was there, i'd listen to comments, chuckle to myself how dumb it all was and then go home with the knowledge that my days were numbered there..

Two more hours of my life wasted (and I don't have that many left!)... I could be out walking the dogs, working in the garden. Even painting the fence would be better than 'read an repeat'. Sometimes I would fantasize about how cool it would be to float up to the ceiling at the assembly hall during the public talk and do a burning bush kinda thing, and then return to my seat like nothing happened. That would be an assembly they wouldn't forget. I like to hold my hands up during the songs like the picture of the people on the cover of the new song book. I figured that is what we are supposed to do since we always discuss every picture in the WT for 10 minutes and use them (when positive) for how we should act or dress. Parking lot duty was always nice, even in the winter.

talked to wife about new light!

i showed my wife the new light, it did not go over good.

i started with all the publications and asked her three questions 1 who is the fds 2when did they start 3 when did they get appointed over "all the belongings"?

using the recent publications she said 1 the fds is 144000 2 they started in the 1st centry 3 they were over all belongings in 1919. then i showed her the annual meeting report on the jw.org and went over each point.

Sorry to hear how that turned out. I have to thank you though for taking one for the team! I was tempted to try something similar. At least we can learn from each others mistakes. Hang in there. I'm trying the: be less angry and more warm and helpful approach. My wife has enough other BS on her hands to deal with at the moment. The last thing she needs is me bitching and moaning about logic and truth.

I think the advice about not discussing doctrine is the best.

i will buy the video and watch it nekkid.. the last time i saw them was in 1994 at legion field with my best friend.

we still say after all these years it was one of the best nights of our lives.. .

If you are at all curious about what the Stones were really capable of back in the day, find a copy of Ladies and Gentlemen: The Rolling Stones (a concert movie featuring the British rock band The Rolling Stones that was first released in 1974.)

Watch it on a good home theater system. Loud. I'd still go see them in a small venue if I had the chance.

So Do You Think The Economy Will Change For The Better, Remain The Same Or Get Worse?

For most of us, the next few decades will resemble falling down several flights of stairs. When we hit the landing from the current flight, things might seem like they are leveling out (we've hit bottom!) and then we will start our trip down the next flight ( as we are about to start soon). There is always the possibility that since there are no railings on these stairs (unless you are too big too fall) that at any moment you could also just pitch over the side and that will be the end of it. If you are not in the 1% group, location will make a big difference as to how well you fair in the short term. Long term, a very real option is that this this experiment (think yeast in petri dish) doesn't turn out so well for mankind. Reset.

How do I disprove "New Light"?

i currently am a jw and my parents are too.they seem either confused or dislike it when i raise questions and recently, when i questioned them about 1925 and 1975, i've been told it's changed due to "new light.

" i don't remember nor do i have very much knowledge of "new light.".

this "new light" just dosen't sit with me and neither do the false prophecies.new light first of all, breaks a scripture in deut.

If they say the GB and they are imperfect men then you can work in the circular and point out that if the old light wasn't from God then there is no reason to believe the new light is either. "

Never, never was 100% in

over 40 yrs baptized, service, builds, talks and talks and talks that i put countless hours of prep into, elder, meetings, assemblies,----you all know.

but through it all i never bought the whole truth idea 100%.

no matter what it was, meeting, service, assemblies, i just couldn't wait for it to end.

A couple of years ago when the WT started harping about the dangers of porn, my wife told me she didn't see any problems if a married couple wanted to view it together. Needless to say, after I resumed my composure, I had to explain why the society was discussing this topic. She is not a born-in and being somewhat older, her view of what constitutes porn is probably a bit different than what is available today. Now that I look back, I should have just kept my mouth shut, nodded in agreement, and downloaded some soft-core stuff for us to watch together. Talk about missed opportunity!
