Hang in there LouBelle. I feel the same most of the time and I have a good job and live quite a comfortable life (materially). For me it is just depressing to see where the human race is going. I try to spend time outside with my dogs and in the garden. A long walk in the forest also helps. If you don't have a job, perhaps you could get involved in some type of volunteer/community help activity. Send some PM's to people here you know well and ask for a listening ear. If I could, may I ask what you feel is missing in your life at the moment? What would help?

Comedian Jonathan Winters Died Yesterday at 87
by BizzyBee inalways loved his comedy - very inventive.
in his later years, he was a fixture around town.
he'd hang out (sometimes in front of the market, or at an executive services office in the village) and do comedy routines and banter with anyone who came by.. .

Wow. Thanks for the update. I thought he died a long time ago. Always loved him He was always on the edge (for that era) but would probably come across as pretty lame today. I need to check out some utube stuff to see if he is really as funny as I remember!

so now what?
by Kaltas1 ini don't really know what to say i'm a bit nervous.
but i am new here and i want to say thank you all for these forums and the many contributions people have made.. for about 9 months i been frequenting here and other places on the net while i have undergone an in depth bible analysis.
after finding that my bible is not consistant with the more favorable options of translating greek words especially in key doctinal areas, i have concluded the great unlikelyhood of jehovah's witnesses having god's blessing and approval.. not just that though.

Welcome. Keep studying, learning, thinking. Be open-minded, but continue to be skeptical. Remember that even Solomon said at Ecclesiates 1:18: For in the abundance of wisdom there is an abundance of vexation, so that he that increases knowledge increases pain. In other words, it will be a bumpy ride....

I had a 'bad' dream this week too. In my dream, the WTS started selling food and drink products that the faithful and loyal were expected to buy. Probably just too much vodka (on my part)... But it seemed too real. Where is the disconnect button?

How many ways....
by Lady Lee in... can you name that the wts hurts people?.
two big ones for me:.
it pushes people to the edge and when they commit suicide they say: "well he wasn't really a jw anyways soit has nothing to do with us".. it pushes people so much to do more and more and more that they get depressed, and physically sick.

I'm with Mum on the introvert thing. I remember an elder telling me - we have to be 'people' people = extroverts. I realize in the USA that introverts are viewed, as to borrow a phrase from the WTS as 'mentally diseased', but can't we all just get along?

Awesome. I think Cedars response to the name choice was the post of the year! At some point, people have to take a stand...

Whats the origin of sin-offering?
by Cirkeline indoes anybody know when and where the practice of sin-offering originated?
in israel it was the practice of scape-goating and offering different animals on the alter which led to the sin offer of jesus christ.
was it practised in religions older than judaism and christianity?

It seemed to be a common feature of almost all societies as they transitioned from hunter-gatherers to agrarian-based once the priests arrived on the scene. So yes, it was a practice that predated ancient Israel. Generally the idea was to appease the gods to insure a successful harvest. Blood was not always involved.
Edit: Oh, sorry. I just noticed the 'sin-offering' part of the question. But I think the answer is still the same. Just a bit later, as religious concepts developed.

Unemployment is down, but why did America set a record 47.8 million on food stamps?
by moshe inin the usa a new record was set on food stamp enrollments, which seems ironic.
you would think as unemployment drops , food stamp usage would be dropping, too.
maybe those government unemployment numbers are fake numbers.

My 2 cents worth. Besides obviously working/fudging the numbers, most of the new jobs created since The Great Recession are in low paying service sector. People need 2 or more of them just to make ends meet and the competition is fierce. A large number have just given up looking for work and are not even included in the stats right now. I'd hate to be graduating from college right now...

My husband MISSED the meeting today! AGAIN!!!
by Julia Orwell inyep, i was comparing the nwt with the greek, which, incidentally uses words like 'grace' and 'spirit' instead of 'undeserved kindness' and 'gifts of the spirit'.
i pointed out these mistranslations to my dear husband.. then i showed him 2 tim 2:5-6 in the nwt and the original greek (strong's, westcott and hort) as well, where it says jesus became mediator for all and showed him in the wt where it says jesus is only mediator for 144 000. i also showed him an instance in the wt where it raves on about hating 'apostates' and others, then showed him matthew 5:44 "however i say to you: continue to love your enemies and to pray for those persecuting you.".
i didn't have to say anything 'apostate'; just show him the contrasting texts.. then i showed him the "shepherd" book where it says one can get dfd for "deliberately spreading teachings contraryto bible truth as taught by jebovah's witnesses" (ibid, pg 65) and told him that i've deliberately told him something different to the wt teaching therefore in the elders' eyes, i can be dfd.

Oh, and P.S. for the "Not forsaking gathering together", counter with the scripture, "Wherever two are gathered in my name" (Matthew 18:20). Suggest perhaps that the two of you will be enough for a time.
Thanks for that. It came up today...
