  My Father Died

  i just found out my father died today...he had a heart attack in the middle of the night.

  he was 63, one month shy of his 64th birthday.

  my 1/2 brother, age 19, who has been living with him trying to get off drugs, found him in his bed.

  Anyone watch Magnolia?

  i just saw magnolia recently, and boy, did i enjoy it.

  the coincidences, the way things interconnected, the credible acting really got me.

  wow.. i admit, some parts were kind of slow and rambling, like when earl partridge rambles off in his bed about his mistakes.

  would you go out with someone who was not physically attractive if he/she had a big heart on the inside, a great personality, lot's of things in common with, etc...i guess i'm asking what's more important to you the person on the exterior or who he/she really is underneath?.

  I think chemistry is important, too. But imo it isn't one aspect of a person; it's the package. I've been attracted to handsome men as well as, shall we say, unconventionally handsome men. Eventually, tho, physical attraction alone is bound to wear off and then where are you?? If you don't have interests in common, if there isn't a meeting of the minds and emotions, then I don't think the relationship will last nor will it offer fulfillment.

  in 1998 sixty minutes first told this story and on the third of this month sixty minutes ii aired a follow-up... .

  following world war ii, great britain was flush from victory but short on cash for social programs.

  they had a surplus of kidsoverflowing children's homes with kids put there by parents too poor (at the time) to care for them.

  What an incredibly heartwrenching story!! But it proves that no governments are guilt-free; they're going to do whatever serves their purposes at the moment. If innocent people suffer, so be it.

  Edited to add: As an interesting side note, in my American Welfare class, the prof made the statement that throughout history, it has been our practice to throw away our children in times of economic and/or emotional difficulty. And yet we constantly pay lip service to the claim that "our children are our future"! Hypocrisy exists in many forms.
