Supplementary meeting: synopsis

the meetings were held in michigan (bibleexaminer), long island (nytelecom), san diego (elder families only), and here in toronto.. the stadium we used is the same we normally use for district conventions.

unlike the dc tho, which is spread over 2 weekends at the stadium, it was packed absolutely full.

it was very hard to find seats anywhere, just a few singles here and there and lots standing in the halls.

WELL, HERE WE GO...

the us launched an air strike on key cities in afghanistan around 12:45 est today.

president bush says that we are specifcally targeting taliban military installations, and terrorist training camps.

may god be with us all.. .

I don't like the idea of innocent people being killed either and I wish there was a peaceful way to resolve this without that happening. You say that bombing the military targets isn't the answer; I ask you then my friend, what is the answer? What solutions do you have for the situation? Reality as I see it is as Bin Laden claimed in the video released today, that the attacks and killing will continue...they need to be stopped. Logi, how do you stop fanaticals who believe they have god on their side and that they are engaged in a "holy" war?

I believe that the Taliban has sheltered some of the people responsible for the WTC attacks; if that makes me blinded by the media, so be it. But remember, they were given two weeks to respond to the demands our gov't made and they chose not to do so. Then today, by Osama's own admission, we hear that the Americans are finally getting a taste of what his people have dealt with and that the attacks will continue...how chilling. Fanatics/monsters like him need to be stopped; in my opinion, he is just like Hitler and I really don't think a peaceful attempt to stop Hitler would have been effective.
Again, tho Logi...I am curious what alternatives you think there might be that would bring a peaceful resolution to the situation.

Horror of horrors.....

i know that while being a witness, we were not really allowed to watch horror movies, or anything that smacked of demonism.

anything supernatural.

my question is, what movie or movies, since leaving the society, has really scared or upset you?

Hey,

I know this is kinda off topic but a few of the comments made here brought it to mind. The only movie I remember seeing that freaked me out was called "just before dawn" and it was pretty scary to a 17 year old JW lass!

But what's off topic are the films I've seen in the last few years that got to me...they were actual footage films of the concentration camps, the gas chambers, the stacked bodies, etc. from the Holocaust. I took a history class a couple of years ago and my professor showed several of these films...I cried through every one of them. I had probably seen some of these same films in high school but no way did they affect me like this back then!

As Moxy said, I was insulated from reality as a JW...as an EX JW, and especially as a mom, the real horrors that man does to man upset me far more than any imagined horrors. And Seven, I couldn't bring myself to watch Schindler's List; I wanted to, but I knew that it would upset me terribly, especially seeing the children...OMG! the children, I just can't take it.

we of course were not at the meeting .

Ridiculous trips to the 'back room'

the posts in the elders meeting thread got me thinking about this, so i've spun it off for into another thread.. were you ever 'counseled' because "some" in the congregation were disturbed by things you said/did/listened to/watched?.

here is just some of the stupid stuff that the elders brought me in on.

though they were usually handled through shepherding calls, not in the back room at the kh.. 1: because i decided to change my first and middle names.

Hey y'all...

When I was 20, I got df'd for my relationship with a guy I later married (and divorced, but that's another story! ) Anyway, two of the three elders were guys I'd grown up knowing...they were actually very kind and didn't ask for any details. To their credit, I think they were kinda icked out at the idea of hearing details of my sex life, as they were like big brothers to me. And I didn't give em a chance to let me off the hook...told them flat out I wasn't giving up the relationship. I guess this is off the topic of the thread since these guys were actually very kind to me.

I do remember one time tho, when I was about 17...I had a part on the service meeting and afterwards, an elder approached my SISTER (LOL) and told her to tell me not to wear that blouse any more as it was not appropriate for the meetings...hehehehe...don't know why they were worried about a see-through blouse on the stage! Or why he didn't tell me to my face. Funny tho...I was never counselled about the beer I drank when I went out with the elders on Friday nights after the meetings...

Wot's that?? No discounts?? Surely, you must be joking!! I mean, how to put this delicately?...you aren't exactly um...'factory new', yaknow...all that time I would have to put in to your retraining...

altho you do make a good point about getting better with age. Perhaps I should be looking for an older model? If I'm going to invest money and time in a 'man-slave', I'd like to get as much 'bang for my buck' as possible!!

as a witness what occupation did/do you hold?.

i was speaking with a friend of mine that is a former witness and we remarked about how many of us have worked in some sort of janitorial work.

When I was a young adult JW, I worked in cleaning for several years...hated it!! Then I went into banking and was in that business until I had my first child...

Now, as an ExJW, I am currently raising my two kids and going to school to be a social worker-wanted to be a psych major but it takes too long to get a degree that would do me any good in the work force!!
I knew several witnesses who were in the cleaning business and the lawn business; most of em barely made ends meet.

Expat...what exactly are your specials? Coz I've got a bit of a hankerin for an orange, hairy fella with an accent. Since you aren't actually Canadian, does this mean you come with a discount? And how do you feel about Americans? Also, if I were to purchase you, what could I reasonably expect in the area of 'services'?

Inquiring minds would like to know!

BTW Waiting...you left out PeterStride in your list of the Canadians...wonder what he goes for??

My Story

being new here and reading some of the stories here i thought i would add mine.

not being as dramatic as some of them out there still thought i would share:).

i was born a jw as my mom was raised one from the time she was a toddler.
