Your top 5 most irritating doctrines/practices?
by cedars init's clear that virtually everyone on here is infuriated by wt teachings/doctrines/practices, but i would really like to know what is of most concern to people who frequent this forum.. here is my top 5, number 1 being the most significant/infuriating:.
the disfellowshipping practice - expanded to include family members (but not parents) who are old enough to leave home.
wrecks families and creates abject fear once people find out the truth about the organization.the blood issue - another unmerciful teaching, but one that costs lives.unquestioned authority of governing body - a handful of men make life-altering decisions as representatives of a larger group of people who they never see or speak to, and yet they demand unquestioning obedience on pain of being disfellowshipped.failed prophecy - the fulfilment of huge swathes of bible prophecy, including revelation, has been attributed to the events of the early 20th century, and the actions of a small group of men.two-tier christianity - faithful and discreet slave are anointed who go to heaven to whom ransom provisions apply directly, whereas remainder, or "great crowd" stay on earth and form a sub-class, only access benefits of ransom through fds.i realise that many of these issues are inter-related, but that's roughly how i would put them.

Treatment of women as second rate citizens - this would include the humiliation of young women by elders during JC's - Thetis
Reminds me of what I have read about the witch hunts and inquisitions. How those celibate priests loved to torture young women! Not difficult to work out what is going on here.

I was a pioneer and an elder's wife. I worked myself half to death getting in 100 hours a month and doing all the housework as well as a part-time job. Could my husband help with the dishes? Yes sometimes but more often than not there was another damn talk to prepare or an elder's meeting to go to. I truly believed I was saving lives with the people I brought into the 'Truth'. Some of us really believed it you know, we tend to be the ones that were most hurt by this religion. Then I come on here and my motives are called into question. Thanks Rattigan.

there have been times when some ran ahead or didn't wait for Jehovah's direction and information was given to us that wasn't what Jehovah intended. Be that as it may....this is still "THE WAY".
In other words they give false prophesies and expect people to give up their education, good jobs, homes, chance to have children and when they don't come true it is the ordinary folk who 'ran ahead'.
The beard,....... I know that for reasons due to health you had to let it grow out. Well, when you can, cut it off. Even if you won't admit it, to yourself, that's part of your rebelliousness.
This is just galling for you. It gives an insight into how they think so thanks for that. Sometimes I forget - thankfully!

One woman who always wore purple - her house was decorated all in purple too.
A man who came to my hospital bed when I was 14, walked in, opened his Bible, read one verse and without saying another word, left.
Yep all totally sane.

Is the Universe Conscious?
by still thinking indoes the universe have a collective consciousness?.
at the sub nuclear level of reality...we are all one.
at the core basis of the universe is a single universal field of intelligence.

I am not sure if the universe is conscious. We know that we are conscious. This is why I have wondered to myself, as Hitchens suggests, if our consciousness has evolved to continue after death. This is my own thought, Still, it is not connected to any religion or philosophy. Perhaps organic life on planets are the only conscious things in the universe so far, but perhaps some of this organic life can evolve into something else. Would this make the universe conscious? Seing as you are doing a 'what if' thread here and telling me to think for myself I hope you will accept this thought of mine and not insist I prove it, or start wheeling on the bearded magician.

Ideas to wake up the JW 'Feelers'
by Captain Obvious ina great point was made by neverknew on another thread about certain doctrinal issues will cause a 'thinker' to wake up, but a 'feeler' will just shrug and carry on.
the feeler jw is often not stupid, but intellectually lazy.
they will often not bother to do research, whatever is said from the platform is fine.

I do understand CO, I come from a whole family of feelers. I can't reason with any of them. My sisters didn't even seem to notice the sexism that enraged me on a daily basis as a JW. My mother wouldn't let me begin to say anything anti JW without cutting me off mid-sentence and just getting angry. When I was a teenager if she didn't want to talk about anything she would just walk out of the room. I don't know why I'm different, I suppose it's just genetics. I am sorry I don't have any answers for you but I just wanted to say I understand your frustration.

It matters not what you believe...or does it?
by Separation of Powers ini had a discussion with a friend regarding ever changing "truth.
" he commented on a verse in the new song book that states that one needs to keep up with "present truth.
" this bothered him immensely.

Proverbs 4 : 18 says,
The path of the righteous one is like the bright light that is getting lighter and lighter until the day is firmly established.
verse 19 continues, The way of the wicked ones is like the darkness; they have not known at what they keep stumbling.
The context from v.14 - 17 is, Into the path of the wicked ones do not enter and do not walk straight on into the way of the bad ones. Shun it, do not pass along by it, turn aside from it and pass along. For they do not sleep unless they do badness and their sleep has been snatched away unless they cause someone to stumble. For they have fed themselves with the bread of wickedness and the wine of acts of violence is what they drink.
(New World Translation, 1963)
Where in this section does it talk about knowledge?
The light is supposed to mean increased knowledge and understanding from God through the FDS isn't it?
This passage is about deeds.
The things the righteous do on their path is totally different to the things the wicked do, which include acts of violence.
Taken totally out of context to excuse their continually changing doctrines.
Why should knowledge keep getting clearer if the GB are directed by God? Can't they hear properly? What are they spirit mediums?
'I'm hearing a B or it could be a D?'

I love the quote from Sagan. Here's another quote.
O, wonder!
How many goodly creatures are there here!
How beauteous mankind is! O brave new world,
That has such people in't!The Tempest, Act 5, Scene1
What a piece of work is a man! How noble in reason, how infinite in faculty!
In form and moving
how express and admirable!
In action how like an Angel!
in apprehension how like a god!
The beauty of the
world!Hamlet. Act 2, Scene 2
