That's interesting Steve2 because that was my thought on the ' Deep down they know it's BS' thread. That they are deciding to mindlessly follow the nonsense even when we try and point out the doctrinal problems. They're letting themselves be decieved for the social rewards several of us were saying but you disagreed at the time.

Is the Watchtower Destroying All Thinking Skills of New Witness, Compare them to when you were in the Organization!
by RottenRiley inmany jws don't know the basic doctrines we all use to debate the clergy with.. .
jws don't know the bible, the know a few proof-texts but can't handle the bible like the witnesses of 1950s-1990s, what happened?.
the caliber of the new elders is horrible when compared with the elders of 1950s-1990s, they don't know how to use their bible, they are turning towards orgnazational minor details while ignoring the bible and gospel message.. .

The purpose of changing JW names, titles and terms
by gingerbread induring a discussion over the weekend, we exchanged ideas about recent changes in terminology related to assembly days, conventions and new titles for the higher-ups.
i commented that for years in 'security' at larger meetings we were told to talk to any that seemed out of place and ask questions that would indicate if they were apostates - antiquated terms like 'overseer' or a reference the 'truth' book.. another in our group brought up the character in the orwell book 1984 and how his job was to separate new and approved terms from old words.
this was called doublethink and blackwhite.

"Deep down inside even they know it is BS." Discuss
by rory-ks innope, bungi bill's interesting statement from this post didn't take, so i'll start its own.. from my own experience, i hated the field ministry.
it might just be because of the kind of character i am, whatever, i never was able to overcome that feeling of dread every time i went door-to-door.
i felt aware of how much people disliked having strangers cold-calling trying to sell them something.

she just talked about all her lovely JW friends.-Xant
You gotta face it though, many JWs especially those who have been baptised for 30/40 year plus are lovely genuine people. Sadly they are doormats, but they keep ploding along and have true love amongst themselves. - KateWild
I hear you Kate and that is why I have not been rude to my JW friend even though she continually forces her beliefs on me. Think about it for a moment though, she knew my husband back in London when they were in their early twenties. We left in 1989 and my husband, her dear friend as she calls him, died in 2008. It has taken her until now to contact me, no message of condolence, just come back to this religion or you wont see your husband ever again. That's all I have to say.

A few weeks ago I mentioned an old friend who has started writing out of the blue after 25 years. She insists on 'witnessing' to me. I've covered 1914, generations, Xmas, higher ed. etc. Last time I talked about pedophiles and Candace Conti. No response in her next letter, she just talked about all her lovely JW friends. To my mind that is her making a decision, she doesn't care about doctrine or morality, she wants to stay in with her friends until she dies, even if it's all BS.

My First Special Pioneer Assignment
by fulltimestudent inmy first special pioneer assignment.- part 1.. in australia, western civilization is a thin strip of land, that hugs the coast.
all the major cities are on the coast.
i grew up on the east coast of australia where the great dividing range, as its called, runs parallel to the coast, and limits the extension of cities like sydney and brisbane.

Well you're not allowed to talk about anything anyway. Reminds me of when my FIL was involved in amateur radio. He called people up all over the world but they weren't allowed to talk about politics, religion, current affairs ......... So he would be talking to a guy in Moscow ........about the weather!

"Worldly" Friends vs "True" Friends
by DuvanMuvan inhey guys i am new to the whole forum thing (long time reader, first time postererer) and i wanted to get some other opinions on something that has bothered me ever since i first became a jehovah's witness.. i was always taught at the kingdom hall that friends inside the orginisation were the only ones i could count on and that the ones out of it (mainly at school) were just being controlled by satan to trick me into leaving the religion.. however, i always found it to be the opposite.
my "worldly"friends were all accepting of my religion (back when i was ok with being a jw) and are the only ones i have really opened up to about wanting to leave.
the only things i have in common with the other teenagers in my hall (3 boys, 3 girls) are that we've all been raised in the truth and... well that's it.. i was just wondering if anyone else found the same thing when they were a teenaged jw or if anyone still in my age finds the same thing..

Hi and welcome DuvanMuvan. It's a long time since I was a teenage JW but my daughter is a teenager and she's at uni now. She has many friends and when she describes the things they do I notice they are incredibly tolerant.
She is an atheist and so are most of her friends but she has one friend who is a devout Christian and although they argue they have remained friends for years. He goes on Christian camps for weeks in the summer but nobody tries to stop him.
Another friend is gay and he was accepted at school, he is a very friendly and popular person. She has friends of different nationalities too. I think teenagers are very tolerant of one another unless they are taught not to be. Sure she's fallen out with some people and there have been rows and personality differences but she moves on and makes new friends, everyone does.

I love a glass of Sauvignon Blanc in the evening but I am trying to drink more red wine because it's supposed to be better for you. Love chianti but it is so expensive. Then I really have to watch what I say on here! It lightens me up though and people's jokes have me laughing, and sometimes when they are not joking.
