Anyone who was a jw a while ago know when they started using pre-written responses in the ministry?
by DuvanMuvan inone of the things that bothered me as a jw was how whenever i was on the ministry with someone it was pretty much the same sh*t being said every time.
also, it wasn't very stimulating when you had a question and got the same response every time.. i was just curious as to when this started happening.
did the gb decide one day that the majority of jws don't know how to answer the simple questions in the way they would like so they had to write them for them?

Hi DM there was something called How would you respond? in the Kingdom Ministry that we discussed at meetings for FS back in the eighties just before I left. We discussed what we would respond with if the householder said - whatever. So no they didn't let us decide what to say, nooo way!

Same sex marriage legalised in the UK at midnight tonight!!!
by DuvanMuvan intitle pretty much explains it all.
lots of people are getting married at midnight tonight.. what do you guys think?
maybe if anyone gets called on by a jw this weekend you can ask them what they think about it.. im just glad because it shows that religion doesn't define our conscience, that basic human decency can prevail over time and hopefully, these types of gradual but big changes will be present in the wts too in the future .

I haven't read the legislation in detail but I don't think it makes gay marriage compulsory for everybody.
As far as evolution goes sex is very variable. The majority of living things don't do sex at all, many practice bi-sexuality, some can switch from asexual to sexual reproduction depending on resources, some are hermaphrodite, there is a marine flatworm that fights duels to decide who gets to be the male and there is a fungi that has not 2 sexes but 28 000 of them. Apparently number 27 999 is widely considered "unnatural".
Cofty thank you for making me laugh, it's been a crap few weeks.

I heard this on the radio on the way to work today. Her tears of joy had me sobbing in the car. Modern medicine at its most fabulous.

Female JW's....No hierarchy here....
by snare&racket indespite jw's lying to outsiders about there being no hierarchy in the religion, we all knew there was plenty.. i love that in the real world, by enlarge equality is something we strive for and seek.. that aside, focusing on this forum in paticular, isn't it refreshing to see that the opinion of females, of the youth, of everyone... is as valid and equal as everyone else.
i hated the sexist, ageist, authoritarian rule of the jw's when i was a member.
so females of the forum, how does it feel to have a voice post wt ?

Outside of the WTS sexism or equality are down to the individual. Some individuals on this forum are sexist, some are not.

Hello, I am new
by LillyC ini am not a jehovah's witness but i am very interested, i have many questions and hope they can be answered here.. i do believe in god, privately.
i do say my prayers daily and do believe god helps me in countless ways.
but i don't go to any church.. i have always been impressed at how smart, polite and nice jehovah's witnesses are and i always make time to speak to them when they call at my door.

Guys just so you know LillyC has made five posts, three saying she is not a JW but singing their praises, two saying that this forum is rubbish technically. 'Her' words are copy and paste Watchtower speak. Nice to know we are attracting attention

How Do You Come to Terms with Being Just One of the 7 Billion?
by will-be-apostate inbeing a jw makes one feel special, no doubt.
when i found out ttatt i realized i'm not special at all.
i'm just one of the other 7 billion human beings who will live and die being nobody, the world will forget about them (and i'm not talking about relatives and friend), they didn't make anything special in their life, they didn't change the course of history, were not famous nor rich, didn't invent facebook, google or anything awesome, didn't have an article published in newscientist, had no imdb profil, not even a wiki page, didn't write a book etc.

I watch my favorite TV show or the Cosmos and I don't feel like the pressure to be someone who matters is gone at alll.
I can relate to the need to find a purpose, my place in the universe. Instead of this purpose being handed to us by God I now had to figure out what is important to me, what makes me want to get out of bed in the morning. It's slighlty different things for everyone, not one great Meaning of Life.

I think it's great; the pressure to be awesome all the time is gone...
...it's like a huge load has been lifted from my shoulders!
So true Vidiot, I have wanted to be just normal all my life, I hated being that weird kid who didn't join in at school, then the weird employee who couldn't even sign a Xmas card. I know, I know, normal is just a setting on a dryer, but just to be accepted by people as, well that's Xan she's got her funny little ways but she's just human, like the rest of us

funny thoughts when pondering the actions of god
by confusedandalone inisnt it interesting that if god needs to warn millions of people that they need to change he talks to like 1 guy and tells this one guy to talk to 1 million people or 7million to talk to 7billion people.
it would obviously be easier faster and far more convincing.. .
yet when alot of people need to die.... he will personal kill each one.

It's all our fault we just don't listen. We keep making mistakes and getting the wrong idea. It's a perfect God trying to communicate with imperfect people. Perhaps he should get a website. 'God' , follow him on Facebook.
