He wanted to discuss creation but his best argument was "there are still monkeys in the zoo" so I decided it would have been an unfair fight.
Lol. Glad you had a civilized discussion, I'm sure what you said will stay with them. Enjoy your meal.
as i was saying before the watchtower literature trolley has arrived in my little town.... my wife and i were in town this afternoon and i saw one of my former elder colleagues standing beside the trolley talking to a young man and reading to him from one of their books.
ray was one my least favourite people - he was everything that is bad about jw elders.
i went up to them and interrupted and told the man that this is a cult recruitment campaign.

i just wondered if anyone was going to partake this year?
when i learned ttatt, it became obvious that the wtbts was not god's organization.
it became obvious that if the bible was true, the wtbts's teaching on the "anointed" were false.
Only if they have an excellent Chianti and some crusty olive bread.
1. they done me wrong.
2. i'm depressed.
3. i'm gonna act like an apostate (smoke, drink, drugs, sex, outrageous behavior).
8. Wow this is an interesting planet, what do they do for fun around here?

bangalore.
it is always advisable for large donors to obtain independent legal advice before entering into donation programs.
Which they wouldn't have done because they didn't realise they were being manipulated by a cult. Very sad for the beneficiaries of the estate who were probably this couple's children and grandchildren.
Are you sure you switched the cooker off?
I still have a dented sponge flan tin that I threw accross the kitchen at my young husband all those years ago. Wow, we had some wonderful rows then! Fortunately it hit the wall and not him.
if god [whatever name you would call him/her/it- but - for this post we will simply say the creator] rated you on a scale of 1 - 10 depending on your degree of righteousness,.
and for righteousness we will go with the following definition:.
"arising from a sense of righteous indignation of injustice".
I am totally indignant about injustice and cruelty in this world, off the scale! I am just fed up waiting for a god to do anything about it so I do my drop in the ocean bit giving to charity and volunteering.
That's not because I'm self righteous but because I really believe all those drops do add up to an ocean. There are 7 billion of us, there's nothing we can't achieve, people power!
What makes me most indignant is millions of cultists being told to do nothing because they have to wait for a god. I was one of them, wasting my money, time, energy!
i am sure there has been a post about this subject, however being a recent addition to the network i don't know how to do a search.
and i'm sure new folks have joined since then.
i am really curious of how others came to know ttatt.. for me is was a real bad experience with one elder after another.
My husband was an elder for four years, that's how we found out. In shock and disbelief at how elders behave we prayed to Jehovah for help to tell us what was going on in his organization. After that we went to the library and looked in the religion section. I can't remeber what we thought we were looking for, possibly Bible encyclopedias. We found Crisis of Conscience and that was that.
christianity began it's formation without the bible.
the bible, as we know it, is a collection of what were very old texts when they were assembled by christian leaders in the late second and third centuries because they were deemed to be inspired by god.. whether they really were inspired by god or not is now open to debate, but should they prove to not be, it should not undermine christianity as an establishment.. discuss......
A religion that begins with a blood sacrifice has nowhere to go but down. The ransom sacrifice/redemption teaching had me worried at age 16.
Putting everyone else's needs before your own is psychologically dangerous. Being told that Christ died for you therefore you must give of yourself to serve Him is just more of the same. Self sacrifice is bad for you.
although i have been out for 8+ years, my recent experiences with this have taught me quite a bit.
i believe most here would claim this is what mind controlled people do when they are in contact with a known "former" believer, so i think some deeper understnding of what is really going on is in order.. i always asked why is the "mind control" so effective and how do the organizations that intiate it, learn how to?
i never really could find a satisfactory answer.
d4g that a very good summation of what happens. When you are born in and raised in that closed atmosphere you really do not understand reality at all. Being forbidden 'worldly' friends, and discouraged from reading non-JW books or having further education you have no way to break out of that false reality.
Because of being forced to be weird by the no holidays, no joining in policy of WTS, everyone at school and work makes you feel misunderstood and even disliked which fuels the paranoia.
They shun because they sense that a person who no longer believes is a threat to their understanding of reality. No words need be spoken about "The Truth" at all. The fact that an intelligent person no longer believes is enough for them to go running to hills to find their known "reality".
Yes when they bump into us the fight or flight mode sets in rapidly. Cognitive dissonance has them fleeing from us in terror because we represent a reality that just does not compute and causes them extreme discomfort.
