FORGIVENESS ... You owe it to your health
by ABibleStudent ini'm cleaning up my home of unnecessary magazines/newsletters that i have accumulated over the years.
while i was working as an employee i did not feel like i had the time to read them.
now that i'm not working as an employee but work as a volunteer to network and maintain workplace skills, i seem to have more time to read.. after reading many threads by former jws, i thought that the following article might help some to heal.

Interesting that psychologists think it doesn't necessarily mean reconciling with the person, forgetting what they did or condoning it. Just moving on from the anger and the desire for revenge. Yes that's good, I don't think staying angry is good for you. Personally I had to let go of my anger about the cult because it just caused me to have a permanent short fuse and keep losing it with people at inappropriate times like at work. Anger inside of you just seems to keep spilling over when you don't want it to.
I do still have a problem with the word forgiveness. It feels religious to me. I prefer the idea of moving on, getting past the anger, getting on with my life. Good thoughts Robert. We don't want to live in the past, there's too much pleasure and fun to have in the present.

Where were you? / How old were you?... during the Ray Franz witch trial?
by Zoos ini was 13yo and largely clueless to what was going on.
i think i remember hearing something about an apostate being weeded out of bethel but really couldn't have cared less.
i didn't start getting zealous until a couple of years later.. .

Early twenties, pioneering in the UK. Vaguely understood that 'something' had happened in Brooklyn bethel to do with apostates because the Watchtower study articles kept going on about apostates. Apart from that - pretty clueless.

Why are JWs so afraid of apostates?
by Magnum inwhy are jws so afraid of apostates?
their view of apostates seems to be out of the realm of the ordinary, the natural.
its as if the words of apostates are supernatual or spiritistic as if apostates are some kind of jedi knights who can slightly wave their hands or twitch their eyes and bring one under a spell.

I also think it's something to do with feeling uneducated and vulnerable when facing people who have done research and who might make us feel small and ignorant. I remember feeling that but not wanting to admit it to myself.

Is it kind of funny that JWs don't give Jesus resurrection day any notice?
by Comatose inif you think about it, for a die hard christian the day jesus was supposed to be resurrected and back in heaven, thereby fulfilling his earthly mission, is a very big day.
all the jws i know never even thought about it.
in fact if i had mentioned it, i bet they would have looked me at strangely.

Did any JWs you know ever think about him being resurrected 3 days later?
I think the reason they focus on his horrific death is so they can say Jesus suffered so much, what are you going to do for him. Which translated means how much are you going to slave for our publishing company.

I thought about waking him up then I realized that they love the org more than me
C&A I used to think that about my mother, brother and sisters but now I think they are just lost little people who can't cope with the big wide world so they hide in a cult. No moral or ethical decisions to make, they just do as they are told. They don't have to decide which chariities to support or which political issues to care about. They just actually like being told what to do, what to think and waiting for God to make a beautiful world. Really sad.
But you are not like that. I'm glad the healing has started.

'a rigouous five month course of Bible study'
Did they even discuss how the Biblical canon was formed. Why some books were left out. What the Apocrypha is about. How the Bible was translated from Latin to the vernacular. Why they are following the teachings of a shopkeeper from the nineteenth century.

Life after meetings
by GoUnion inwhat are the positives in your life since leaving jws?
mine would be a healthier lifestyle mentally and physically.
i'm free to do what i want and can make my own decisions, is this good for me will it help me or could it hurt someone else?

GoUnion I'm glad things are good with your wife and you have reconnected with your brother, riches indeed. I fill my time with reading, gardening, gym, walking in the countryside, cooking, cinema and theatre, a little voluntary work. Oh yes and my job! Which I enjoy, most of the time. I too am so much healthier now than I was in my twenties in that religion. If I hadn't left I would be like my sisters, hanging on to health by the skin of my teeth.
They don't talk to me, have'nt done for twenty-five years. Neither does my brother who is an elder. Like you I don't miss them as much as I thought I would. We have nothing in common now. Hope all keeps going well for you.
