by EdenOne instemming from the 'absentheism' thread, an old question came to my mind.
what exactly is "belief"?.
is it the same to ask: "do you believe in god?

No Oub both statements are about belief, neither are about knowledge. Sorry, going to watch Horizon now- astronomy programme. -

Some assert a belief that there is no God. God does not exist.
Others may state that they do not believe God exists. These are not equivalent statements.I think they are the same statement grammatically and semantically. However, I understand what Sagan is saying, belief and certainty because of compelling evidence are two different things.

Lack of belief in god is not a claim that there is NO god. This is where people can't understand atheists
Sorry if I'm being thick but I don't know what this means? (I am an atheist)

Thanks Splash I haven't seen that vid, thanks to JW Survey too, it's brilliantly put together.
These GB men who dare to assert people can leave the KH any time they like because they are not chained to it ! Liars, you can leave but they will keep your family. What kind of freedom is that?
Then he says JWs are the most thinking people in the world but in the same breath he says you have to do what the elders tell you because that's listening to God. There is no room for any kind of thought in that religion never mind independent thinking.

There is a doctor who had so many people having these NDE that he wrote a book. This is probably the closest thing that I know of that would be documented proof.
Eben Alexander did not write about his patients' experiences, he claims to have had a NDE himself after going into a coma with meningitis. Have you actually read it? He doesn't give any evidence that can be corroborated by another person.
Neurophysiologist Peter Fenwick on the other hand has written about his patients' experiences.

Seeking agape thanks for sharing your story. It's interesting that it's so easy to find help online these days that you just had to type in JW struggling and there it all is. Good for you leaving, living a full life and giving your son a good foundation for his life. -

Are JWs happy? From my cousin I hear that my family are constantly ill, one thing after another. Some friends who write to me are also constantly sick as if they are just holding on by the skin of their teeth. Any doctor would tell them slow down, take a holiday. The WTS says to them are you struggling? Do MORE! More FS, more meetings. If you're depressed stop thinking about yourself they say, get out there and help others. A human body can only take so much! Not a recipe for a happy life. -

Active posters: What education have you had, what degrees do you possess?
by EndofMysteries infrom so many posts and conversations on here, you'd think over 1/2 the posters here possess doctorates in theology, physics, biology, etc.
i'm curious aside from the books and research people have done here, what degrees they have.
