Fading is never 100% successful is it?

mum phoned last night to see how we all are.

after fifteen years away from meetings and my old jw life you'd think my fade could be called 'successful' and for the most part it is.

.. my resentment at being lied to and having wasted over thirty years of my life has left me like a glass of water full to the brim, it only takes a tap to make a mess.

One thing I've realized though is that it's not unique to JW families and upbringing. Sure, there are JW specific elements to it but most families are messed up and dysfunctional in some way it seems but everyone pretends that everything is fine and puts on a good show for public consumption. - Simon

I'm glad you said that Simon. I've tried to say this before and some get very angry on here with me. Yesterday in my work I was helping a lady well over 70 print out a map to go to her sister's funeral. She didn't know the way to her sister's house. I didn't say anything because it's none of my business of course, but this happens more than you think.

What's the point?

i mean, i don't want to be miserable or anything, but what's the bloody point of it all?.

since i left the watchtower cult, i have come to realise that god cannot possibly exist...and if a god exists...god is indifferent to humankind as the least.. in 100 years time i'll be gone.

Thanks Snare for the Sam Harris vid. I like that he said what can fill the void of atheism is science, art and philosophy. Yes he said philosophy.

I liked his mindfulness meditation session. I was going to make a joke about it because I realised what he was doing having done Buddhist mediation myself but then Sam joked himself saying that he got a roomful of atheists doing mindfulness meditation, now you're all Buddhists he said.

Living in the present moment can even erode the pain of grief Sam said. Yes I agree. I learned that.

I do wish that when the prolific posters on this site laud Sam Harris et al they would really listen to them. Philosophy and mindfulness meditation that we got from Buddhism. Don't throw the baby out with the bath water.

I think it actually takes a level of maturity to ask what's the point instead of staying on the hamster wheel of doing what's expected, what everyone else is doing or what we used to do.

It's not necessarily a sign of being depressed but a sign of refusing to carry on doing what works for other people but not for us. It's the question philosophers have been asking for years. So the answers aren't going to be easy.

I think a better question is what really makes me happy. Sod what other people are doing.

What's the point? I don't know but I have days when I ask myself that. I am eating, drinking and being merry at the moment, or I try my best 😀I liked the song you wrote and sang on your previous thread about your band. You have a good voice.

5:3 the watchtower magazine, principle journal of jehovah's witnesses, writes.... however, just before that day of jehovah begins, world leaders will be saying “peace and security!” this may refer to one event or to a series of events.

In 1989 when the Berlin Wall came down the words Peace and Security were all over the national newspapers. We kept saying at the Kingdom Hall isn't this fantastic? Nobody cared.

Do Jehovah's Witnesses ever read the Bible you ask. The few that still do feel they have to wait for the GB to interpret it for them. They can't recognise a 'sign' using their own intelligence. Anyway we found CoC soon after that and I no longer believe in the Bible but as you can see the situation in JWs has been like that for a very long time.

If genetic engineering means we can prevent Down Syndrome, muscular Dystrophy, cystic fibrosis and haemophilia think of the heartache that would save.

Before we go to other planets we have a few problems here to sort out first. The thought of us finding an earthlike planet and pouring pollution into its oceans, damaging the ozone layer and heating it up until its ice caps melt just so we can keep manufacturing more and more stuff horrifies me. If there is a more advanced alien race out there they should ground us until we grow up.

well i've noticed a pattern where a lot of ostentatious peoples that talk about their tough ass tax troubles only relate it to it as a problem that's being perpetrated by the federal & democratic states.

No I don't think so. Since learning TTATT and leaving the WTS we were closely followed by my FIL and my MIL. He was COBE for a while but read CoC and realised the GB were just running a publishing company, the WTS. We Da'ed and apart from a funeral I haven't been to a KH or RC for 27 years. 😀

Hello Everybody

i didn't see an introduction forum anywhere but i thought it would be weird to start posting without first introducing myself so, here we are.

i'm 15, and i've been looking for a place to discuss my thoughts on the religion that i'm pretty much stuck in at the moment.

my mom and dad divorced over their different beliefs over a year ago (my mom is jw and my dad is an very knowledgeable apostate, so you can see how they would fight over it), and since then i've stopped believing altogether.. just thought i'd say hello.

Hi Thomas. Well done waking up so young, I wish I had. Get busy planning to be financially independent as soon as you can. You are eighteen in three years. I know it seems a long way off but you need to be able to stand on your own two feet if you mother doesn't wake up. Start making friends at school so you have a support circle. Good to have you here and looking forward to your posts.

i pay attention to what other writers write about writing.

writers always have limits--even writers of fiction.. do you choose to live in a world where pigs fly and deuces are wild?
