Sometimes my daughter complains about patronising people and I just want to laugh and say you've no idea what it's like to be patronised within an inch of your sanity. Darryl since leaving I have never been treated that badly by a man, never.

Poor Sisters
by Darryl ini really felt for you sisters i mean i really did.
when you showed up at the sunday meeting and found out the subject of the talk was going to be -and i can't quite remember the exact wording- but something to the effect of marriage and headship, or honoring and obeying your husband, or something like that how many of you wanted to jump right back in your car and head home.
i mean 45 straight minutes of beating down you poor ladies and telling you that you are not worthy of making one decision, taking the lead in anything, don't question the man be obedient and keep quiet.

After Jesus fasted for 40 days, he was tempted by a man (not a fallen angel).
by quincemyles inafter jesus fasted for 40 days, he was tempted by a man (not an evil angel) to turn stones into bread, jump from the temple and bow.
the tester was a pharisee of the ruling class.
jehovah's witnesses believe the tester to have been an evil spirit or leader of fallen angels named satan the devil.

Timebandit you lost a friend. I'm so sorry. What a beautiful lady. At the end she had clarity of thought. I've heard of this before. I hope you are alright, thanks for sharing this story.

A Womans Role In The bOrg
by pale.emperor ini just read a thread somewhere on here that someone has been accepted to bethel service along with his wife.
his wife has, of course, been assigned to work in the laundry room.
which compels me to write this little post.. now, i dont consider myself a "feminist" as such, but i definitely believe in equality.

They only want women to be housewives and baby factories in the Borg. If you don't like it just lie back and think of England.... or the GB commandments.

I'm glad you've found someone to talk to who really gets it. I have sympathetic friends but you get fed up explaining every little detail of the cult first when you want to talk about your family etc.

I have no prblems with "new light"
by Doug Mason inthere is nothing wrong with accepting new ideas.
even apostle paul changed his mind when he "saw the light".
indeed, i hope to learn new things every day.

All of that could be a cause for ridicule, but there is a seriously sinister side, at the human level. Each time a new light is switched on, the organization demands lock-step acceptance. All minds have to switch over, whether a person agrees or not
It's the human cost of these decisions from the high and mighty GB. How does the woman I knew in my old congregation cope with the loss of her seventeen year old son in a car accident who could have lived if he'd had a blood transfusion? New light about blood fractions doesn't help her.
How does my sister cope with the thought that she could have had IVF and possibly have grown-up children now, even grandchildren. Instead she has an empty house because IVF was forbidden as the discarded embryos were considered to be 'murdered'. New light saying it's a conscience matter now doesn't help her and I can tell you she has not coped.

Got the personal invite to the D.C
by Phizzy ina nice jw old boy knocked the door and asked me how i was, said they were giving out invites, i refrained from mocking him for the total waste of time such "work" is.. he mentioned that " we don't know when the end will come" , so i just said i was sure my new grandson would grow up, go to university, get a good job and his kids would do the same, by which time i shall be long gone.. "you are sure of that ?
" asked the jw, "oh yes", i replied.. i know we cannot be sure of anything, except death and taxes, but there is loads of evidence that my scenario may well play out, there is no single shred of evidence for an "end to the system" as envisaged by jw's, their weird view coming from a totally discredited source, the bible and mainly its final book, what nonsense..

anyone else had this following convention
by freeandcontent inso my mam visited today.
she recently went to convention in north east england, newcastle i think they still have them at.
before she left she said (this is her exact words btw) "you have put me in a difficult position and i can't come to see you anymore".. she told me that as i live with my partner and we are unmarried that she can't visit anymore.

That's exactly word for word what my mum said to me and she missed out on seeing her granddaughter grow up. My daughter didn't mind because she had my husband's parents making a fuss of her and they enjoyed having her all to themselves. Are your partner's parents around? I know this doesn't make up for you losing your own mum does it? Sorry this is so hard for you, it's not fair and it's not Christian, damned cult!

What is happening to the pictures?
by Xanthippe inhi simon, i notice some of mine and kaik's photographs of our gardens from bonsai's 'start a butterfly garden' thread are missing and being replaced with little squares with question marks in.
they're not pictures taken from the web but our own photos so i'm not sure what's happened there.
they've been there a while and used to be fine.. also i like to look back on flipper's 'post a picture thread' to see if i've missed anyone and it's starting to happen there too and some of the pictures have been turned upside down, p94, p95, p103.
