What's The First "Worldly" Thing You Did When You Exited The Cult?

when you finally and officially exited the cult, whether it be by disfellowshipping, disassociating or fading - what was the first things you did that are considered "worldly"?.

for me, it was like crash landing on another planet that looked like earth but was completely different to the earth i knew.

i wanted to learn everything that i thought i already knew.. first things i did:.

We went to a bonfire night fireworks display. Such beautiful fireworks. First one I'd ever been to.

Then we waited a year before we celebrated Christmas. Had a real tree delivered, it smelled so good and we put coloured lights on and bought really cheap decorations.We cooked an Xmas dinner and drank a lot of wine. Simple pleasures, how could a religion condemn these things.

We gave each other second hand books and chocolate, it was so much fun. Our new kitten chased the wrapping paper and ribbon until she fell asleep under a pile of paper. It took us a while to find her. Happy memories.

i asked an old jw friend of mine why so many baptized individuals leave the jw religion.

"did it ever occur to you, old friend, that maybe they know something that you don't know and have valid reasons for leaving?

", i asked.. his response set me back for an answer.

Yeah I left because I wanted to go to all night orgies and get blind drunk every night. Oh and I was stumbled by all the people who didn't want to do that

Any Others of the "Anointed"?

i was baptized in 1985, was a regular pioneer, ministerial servant, and on the way to becoming an elder when i left the witnesses in 1999. i also was one of those who claimed and (at the time ) believed i was one of the anointed.. i am wondering if there are any others here who also claimed they were of the anointed?

how did you come to that conclusion?

how do you feel about your claim now that you are out?.

At A Loss

complications of a ruptured appendix.

she had it removed around 1am friday morning.

Azor I'm so glad your wife is doing better. You have been through so much with your son, you deserve a break. I had appendicitis with complications, had two ops it was very scary. Take care of yourself you've had a shock.

Apologizing to my non-JW friends

yesterday i bumped into an old friend from my last workplace.

he's a gay man and we were good friends along with a woman from the same office.

although i was a jw at the time, i would go for the occasional after work drinks with them, blackpool funfair every year and the occasional cinema or theater.

PE thanks for this. It's good to hear about you meeting up again with friends now you're out but also a reminder to me that friends don't give up on us. A friend of mine has been a bit odd this year, she's not telling me what's going on but I've just stopped asking and given her the space she wants. We got back together a few weeks ago, she came round for dinner. This is what normal friendships are like isn't it, up and down but we don't give up on them.

Refuse to let them read about fantasy and magic which children love. Frighten them by saying the demons will get them if they read these books or see these films.

They're seriously expecting skilled men like joiners to spend a month there free of charge. How the heck can anyone in this economic climate who has a mortgage to pay and a family to feed afford to lose a month's wages?

No wonder the volunteer applications are only trickling in.

Biggins the Bigot?

christopher biggins - the harmless, camp, homosexual, panto star - has been in hot water recently.

in addition to making a tasteless/offensive joke to a jewish contestant in the big brother household, further possibly offensive comments about bisexuality have landed him in hot water.

the offensive jewish joke wasn't broadcast but the comments on bisexuality were.

LUHE I said that saying there are no bisexual people they are all closet gays is reminiscent of when people used to say there are no gay people it's just a mental illness. Nowhere did I say Biggins has a mental illness!!

Update on my struggle

so it has been a while since my last posting and i am happy to report on some positive progress.. in my personal section, i had posted already so i am not going to overextend, but i've found a group of apostate friends.

it turns out some brothers from my kh, whom i have lost touch with when they moved, are awaken to ttatt.

we got separated when our congo got divided several years ago.
