Oh my goodness this religion is just a sad parade of physically and mentally disabled people. I don't know what to say, I feel so sorry for these poor individuals but seriously is this all they have left to man the trolleys?

Recent JW Literature Trolley Experience
by Athanasius inthe j ws have set up a literature trolley in one of our local shopping centers.
since the goodwill thrift store at the center has an excellent selection of second hand books, i stop by twice a month and buy a book or two that catches my interest.
as a result i've become friendly with the j ws who mind the trolley.. usually the minders are two 70 something j w ladies.

Diogenesister, great YouTube thank you. Yes she is very articulate and also very caring. It's a good ided to warn people in the Warwick area about this cult and it looks like they're already aware of its presence. The pastor's wife said they are a very heavy presence going from door to door around Warwick, all dressed up!
For me the ex-JW's compassionate approach was a reminder that many who are trapped are still good people who need help. I like that, sometimes I get so angry with my own family I forget there are others in it that just got sucked in at a vulnerable time in their lives. Good vid, thanks.

I'm gutted you can't buy mechanical watches anymore. Had a lovely one for years. Why oh why do we have to keep putting batteries into these Quartz monstrocites. My old watch kept perfect time without rock and electricity.

When I went as a young pioneer for the 'privilege' of serving food there was a shareholders meeting in a private room. I only found out because they forget to turn the loud speaker off outside the room and you could hear what was going on.

What a dreadful situation. You are penalized for being successful. I thought the who point was to bring in converts so they do not die at Armageddon.
This exactly describes my life nearly thirty years ago. What I've realised is growing up in a poor family with parents who had little education I had no idea what life in the real world had to offer.
Now I know what I want to do, see the world, all of it. I don't have enough money for that but if I'd known the richness that real life has to offer, university, interesting jobs, travel and fun on this beautiful planet I wouldn't have wasted my time in that silly cult.

Is there anything good JWs taught you still benefit from?
by venus insome years ago, i attended a jw wedding.
marriage speaker said something which changed my life for the better, and it helps me even now.
he told the couple: “the very make up of man and woman is such that conflicts can often arise between you.

Venus if a JW's only offering in a marriage talk about solving arguments for married couples is buy another TV, I'm sorry but that's the most pathetic piece of advice I've ever heard.

Grocery Store conversation with an elder
by problemaddict 2 ini'm inactive here to the local jw's as i have faded.
i've been slandered and all that, shunned by some but not all, but the elders basically leave me alone.
i still run into to people all over though.

If you check through my subsequent comment in this thread, once problemaddict2 clarified that his son was not present when he had the exchange with the elder, I thanked him for the clarification - only I misidentified him as Xanthippe (my error - I had intended to thank problemaddict2 for the clarification).
You're a strange one Steve2. You didn't misidentify problemaddict as me, it was me who defended him and explained his son wasn't present. I understood that from his op. Whatever do you mean?

problems are the medications prescribed that make people violent towards others when on the meds or if they miss a few doses/withdrawal. Look up violence and effexor for an example.
Blaming people with mental health problems for the violence in the world is too easy and insulting.

Does Morality Exist?
by Fisherman insome people believe that stealing, lying and killing, is not moral.
some people don't.. does morality exist?
if so, prove it..
-
Xanthippe
I think you're talking about an ultimate standard of morality, like absolute goodness as opposed to total evil. As if such a standard was founded in the universe somewhere before we even existed. That's from your religious beliefs I think.
Morality is about not causing harm to conscious beings but over time we've had to continually change what that means as we've grown in our understanding. There isn't an absolute standard of morality, only what works. What works for us probably wouldn't work for life on another planet with totally different needs.
