i was shocked i do not know why as i have read that the co's were doing this but to hear it with my own ears was unbelievable.
i do not go to the meetings but my husband still does and this week is the co's visit.
i decided that i would listen in to his talk; i swear i have lost some brain cells by doing it but anywho.. he started out by talking about the old story that has been in the wt many times about a little boy who was seven and raised a chicken and gave the money to the society.

The CO went on and on and on about how wonderful that was and how we here in the US have so much and how that dollar that little boy gave could have feed his family, etc but no he gave it all to Jehovah.
I've never understood why stories about people giving up money that could have been used to feed themselves is a good example!
here's a few guesses.... the brooklyn waterfront is a convenient place for the society to make their videosgrowing up as a jw when your friends have cellphones and you don't is "kind of rough" and a "kind of sad story"suddenly it's ok for jw youths to "go out" with worldly friends?

I agree Steve. It does leave a whiff that it's frowning over something completely normal. Creating anxiety where there is nothing to worry about and guilt when you have done nothing wrong is cult mind control.
It does actually link with the masturbation vid in my mind. My teenager is welded to her phone. So they say lets start telling the kids something that is normal and that they love and cant give up has a negative side to it. I think this is just the beginning of the cell phone campaign.

The sickening thing is it gets drummed into your head when you're very young 'be careful, be careful, danger,'. Now the poor kids have to worry about phones.
Even now I have to catch myself sometimes and ask what am I worrying about, why am I tense?

Yes, yes a hundred times yes. The WTS discourage giving to any charity except theirs. I feel appalled at people's apathy to making the world a better place. We are made to feel powerless. I'm not talking about conspiracy I'm talking about concensus. We should refuse to be part of a consensus that we have no power. Political history is full of examples of tiny governments being afraid of the populace revolting because we always outnumber them. I'm talking about supporting all the great charities here just to make myself clear. Just think what 7 billion people could do if they tried.
