Welcome to the forum SIU. I had a bad time in that region too. Generally speaking men in the religion don't like intelligent women. I did find a good one though. Reader, I married him.

My mom is into "The Secret"
by BlackWolf inlately my mom's gotten into all kinds of weird "power of positive thinking" kind of stuff.
she watches "the secret" and bob proctor videos all the time, and now she's trying to get me into it.
to me her being into this sort of thing seems kind of hypocritical.

Anyways what do you guys think? Is the "law of attraction" approved by the watchtower? In my opinion the whole concept of it is bs and I hate that she is so controlled by her emotions that she will believe anything.
These concepts are always aimed at westerners. How can they be universal principles? How can the people starving in East Africa be deliberately attracting famine? Nonsense.

Yeah my niece was homeschooled up to sixteen and then she went to a sixth form college to do A levels. Mind you her parents are very bright. Her dad's a computer programmer and her mum taught herself Japanese. My niece got her BA, MA and she just finished her PhD.

Thanks freddo for giving the context of their quotation. I see they're still using those three little dots ... to skip over the most damning part of the sentence they've left out. Trust them? You can't trust these people, they quote half a sentence to twist someone's words for their own ends.

Where is that lovely old thread "where are you from?"
by clarity inbig hello again to all.
there was an old thread, many pages long, where we could say where we lived in the world.. many just put the country but others told a bit about their hometowns.. i cannot seem to find it and just wondering if this still exists ....blondie maybe??.
now that there are so many of us, it might be pretty fantastic to know how many potential friends we have living in our areas.

I'm Dating . . .
by compound complex inbecause i am still very much held a prisoner to past beliefs and practice, i dress in suit and tie and bring a briefcase on my frequent dates.. i talk business during the entire happy meal (macdonalds), displaying ad brochures and spreadsheets relative to whatever business plan i happen to be hawking that day.
i count the venture as a business expense and jws who frequent this fine diner know i am not on a date.
there are no smirks, no snickering, no knowing glances.

I live in a funny, strange world where the border between reality and fantasy bleeds and blends, one into the other.
Sounds like my kind of world. I think facing up to reality is necessary but you can have too much of a good thing. We have become aware and sentient but along with everyday reality we still love stories, we create beauty and fun with our amazing minds
