2. For the most part have been able to show consistent growth over the past 100+ years
Mormons, moonies, scientologists and drug pushers have been growing steadily. They have all suffered persecution as well.
the purpose of this post is to try take a close but un-biased look at whether or not jehovahs witnesses are the right religion.
in my few months of doing research about jw's outside of their own publications i've came across a wide variety of viewpoints.
some people are skeptical or unsure if the wts is really the right religion, some are certain that jw's are wrong but have no ill-feelings toward them, some individuals downright hate the organization and still others are certain that the wts is the real deal.

Ok, let's put together some of the pros and cons.
'Extremely organized and efficient in distributing what they beleive to be bible truths'
'predictions that did not come true; predictions also go in contrary to bible teachings'
'Numerous contradictions in certain bible teachings'
So, what we get, is an organisation that is extremely efficient at spreading its false contradictory beliefs and predictions. Kind of a dangerous type of org to have on the loose, isn't it? Kind of wipes out all of the 'pros' doesn't it? Come on now leander, be objective.
i'm assuming by now every jw knows that the watchtower was associated with the un (altho they may not know about the current disassociation).
i've heard it said that they were merely registered with the un to aid in the preaching work.
how did they, or any individaul witness come to that conclusion.

That sounds like the most likely spin they will put on this. If they do, one could ask the following questions: Why did they then dissasciate? Isn't jehovahs spirit supposed to be the driving force behind their preaching? Why then turn to the chief idol of satans system, the image which satan set up to be in direct oppostion to, and direct the masses away from gods true kingdom for aide?
The fucking hypocrites!!

there have always been things about the bible that never really made much sense to me.
not to say that i disagree with whats in the bible but i have wondered about the fairness of certain things.. 1. for example i've always even as a child thought that it was odd that so many people would die during armageddon.
now as an adult and i understand people better than i did years ago i really do feel puzzled about the fact that according to the scriptures the majority of mankind will perish.

http://www.geocities.com/Athens/Academy/6040/flood01.htm has a thorogh examination from the geological angle, of the evidence against a global flood. It's worth a read. Also, it shows the conflicts between the 2 flood accounts in genesis.

as jws we learned a lot about persuasion and how to get people to accept our ideas.
we had role plays on over coming objections.
we were taught how to anticipate typical questions and respond to them.

Interesting. If i remember right, you are a christian, but a fairly liberal one. Would you agree? To what type of church do you belong?

hey folks,.
i just read a letter from a friend in brazil where he express his happiness about the translation to portuguese of his book "in search for christian freedom" that is coming.
i would like to share some thoughts of ray franz about the terrorist attacks in 11/09:.
Fred You're pretty funny.

I hit the post limit. Had to wait for a while.
Yes ray had the courage to stick to his beliefs. My point is that he was clinging to the wt till the end. There are many secrets about it that he still will not divulge.
Ray wrote three letters to the gb asking for relief aide on his appeal of the dfing. On pg 322 he describes 'how critically some statement from them was needed.' That is the flavor surrounding those 3 appeal letters directly to the gb. It was only after waiting for weeks, with no gb response, and realizing, as he says on pg 'an adverse decision was somehow being deliberately sought', then concluding there was absolutely no hope whatsever, that he withdrew his appeal. He realised there was nothing he could do to avert the inevitable. It wasn't his style to camp on the brooklyn bethel doorstep, hoping the gb would come by, then cry all over them. Nevertheless, those 3 letters to the gb and the original appeal letter, in my opinion constitute begging.
If he would have realised and lived jesus' words, to go to jesus, he would not have held on to the wt to the last. Very few jws willingly withdraw, because of the doctrinal flaws. That takes even more courage, because they willingly let go of their percieved one and only hope, for what.. for something insubstantial. Letting go of the definite/visible/concrete to reach out for the indefinite/insubstantial/unkown takes more courage than ray had at that time.

Thanks bridgette, i meant something like that. I had reach my posting limit and had to wait.

That is my impression. It could be wrong. But inside, i think they are just as bad or worse.
I think what i was trying to convey is that jws and christians feel guilty if they don't present a nice front. 'I must behave like a christian should', or 'i must act kind and loving like the wt has taught me'. Their emphasis is on how they look to other people. While atheists and agnostics can just be themselves. I'm not advocating total diregard for other people's feelings. When one suggests the casting aside of jw or christian standards, many people instantly react in fear thinking total lawessness is going to break out. Human nature is better than that. Atheists also have ethics and love for people. From where does this derive? From the early nurturing of their mothers, and then later, the fathers also. You can observe this same phenomanon in some animals. My cat for instance, is not a jw or christian. I don't know what her concept of god is. Maybe she feels the oneness. Anyway, she has a good nature due to genetics and early nuturing . If you can, you should try to observe a mother cat raising her kittens. It's very interesting.
I try to be civil, but sometimes i'm not. I'm here for the therapy. I'm trying to get better. To do that, i believe i need to get things out, not suppress them like the wt taught. I don't want to make too much of a mess in the process. In time i hope i will feel a love for everyone. Right now i don't and i'm not going to pretend that i do.
I hope i have answered your question?

while surfing the net, i came upon this annoucement.. a seminar on biblical greek to be taught by dr. firpo carr!!!.
who wants to sign up?.
Fredhall
Firpo is smarter than most jws. He's going to fleece them by telling them what they want to hear. He's sucking them in. These guys here, on the other hand have seen through him. So then, who is really smarter?

While rays first book was instrumental in letting me see the wt is not directed by god, i still have a criticism. Ray still is basically a jw. His beliefs only differ slightly. You must remember that he was forced out (dfd). He basically begged for mercy, but didn't get it. He did not want to leave the org. I'm not talking about his leaving the gb here, which was voluntary. Yes, he has kept the jw frame of mind intact. He is a jw with a slightly different color hat.
