  Friend gets "scriptural divorce" over wifes transgressions before they got married...

  so i have a friend in a congregation in new jersey who recently called me to tell me that he got a divorce.

  nothing surprising there at first but it is the fact of when it happened.

  his wife began pioneering april 1, and after about three weeks she came to him and told him that about 4 years she had engaged in loose conduct (fondling the penis and the guy kissing her breasts) during a time that she was inactive.

  I like what nugget said. If he does happen to grow a backbone, he can always remarry her. But, i'm sure that she would require him to work for it, the next time.

  my buddhist encounter

  so, we have a buddhist abbey in the woods near here.

  lots of americans with shaved heads,wearing tibetan buddhist costumes.

  they do a walk around town once a month with begging bowls, pretending they are sadhus.

  Another facet of buddhism is the vipassana centers. Its a 10 or 11 day meditation program. It can be free, from what i was told, ie, at the end, the person gives what they want. This program is credited w helping a lot of people. It was used in some prisons, until there were complaints about religion being promoted by govt. Apparently, many prisoners' lives were improved by the methods used.

  Anyone else an Ex Bethel "volunteer"

  i was wondering if there were any other ex-bethelites on here.

  i personally regularly went for temporary work at brooklyn then was assigned to the farm for a year and a half.

  it was... one of the most bizaare experiences of my life.. so i wrote it all down (finally, after some 15 years) so i won't bore anyone on here with the details of the story - because bethel doesn't show up until chapter 15... and for you straight folks, it gets a bit gay in two places... but nothing gross.

  in the movie annie hall, written by woody allen, as a young boy, alvy's mother, takes him to see a doctor as he appears to be dealing with some kind of depression.

  when the doctor asks alvy what's up, alvy explains that he just found out the universe is expanding, everything will spread out and go cold and die, therefore nothing he does matters, so he is not going to do anything anymore.

  most people might see this as a joke, but i think woody is trying to make a serious point.. the point here is about meaning.

  Christianity can create sociopathy in that it destroys the innate core value as a person. Original sin is said to have rendered man into a state of total depravity at his core. The solution:

  'Regeneration is the answer to the problem of man`s depravity. Because of Adam`s sin man is counted as guilty before God. Man is not capable of doing what is spiritually good. Man has inherited corruption. It is therefore, necessary to take into account certain questions such as, what is regeneration. Does regeneration accomplish anything? Does man have any role in it?

  Grudem defines regeneration as “a secret act of God in which he imparts new spiritual life to us” (Grudem 699). McCune writes “Regeneration is the instantaneous, spiritual impartation of spiritual life to the spiritually dead” (McCune 49). The phrase, “being born again” (Jn.3:3) refers to regeneration (cf.Titus 3:5).There is human responsibility to our conversion, such as confession, working out our own salvation, and our perseverance in our Christian walk. Yet when it comes to regeneration, God alone is working upon men. The apostle John teaches that only those Christ gave the right to become children of God, are reborn by a new birth that precedes from God the Father (Jn.1:12-13; 3:3-8).

  It is regeneration that enlivens us to respond in faith that saves because man left by himself, cannot choose to do what is good. This is the whole idea that explains that man is totally depraved and inclined to evil always. Regeneration takes God to draw us to himself through his Son, the Lord Jesus Christ. Therefore, when theologians talk about man as being totally depraved they mean “that man`s nature is corrupt, perverse, and sinful throughout” (Thomas 24).'

  A person comes to believe that they are incapable of originating anything good. They can't concieve that an atheist can be anything other than they themselves think that they are. It can take yrs to learn otherwise.

  The agency that does the baptism takes it cut, in the wt case, your soul. Its like, if you went to the mafia for for something. They take their cut. If someone wants to make a dedication to god, see my post above.
