I don't have any specific beliefs now. But I did feel my anxiety rising again when I read some of the latest WT articles that someone posted on this forum. The mindset and old fear comes back. I'm conscious that I don't naturally "expect" a long future. It's like at the back of my mind I believe something big is going to happen but I think that's just years of indoctrination and will take a while to leave me. All I know is, is that I feel much more peace of mind now than I did as a JW. I can also echo the sentiment someone else posted - that even if there is a God and Armageddon is about to happen, I find it difficult to believe JWs would be the chosen ones let alone the only ones to survive. And if that were the case, it is not a god I would want to worship.

This site has been going for 13 years. Did you ever at one point fear armageddon?
by ILoveTTATT ini am just wondering about all of you who have been on this site for long.
in all of the events that have happened since 2000 (for example, september 11th), have you at any point, even you die-hard apostates, felt like "oooh sh!t... i should go back to the kh"... just to have the world survive the latest disaster?.
what was the worst event for you, in terms of saying... "did i mess up???

Gay for J.

Welcome Superboy. I can totally relate to your story (as can many other gay exJWs no doubt). The gay world is not the world painted by the WTS. The sleazy side of it all (sex in toilets etc), I believe is a direct result of people having to be in the closet (no pun intended hehe). Most of my gay friends nowadays live lives pretty similar to the average heterosexual. We're all just people gay or straight etc. It sounds like you escaped while you were young. I'm glad for that.

The eldaaaars again!!
by ILoveTTATT inafter two months of not coming to my house, today about two hours ago, one of the elders that came two months ago came to my house.
he was in serve-us with other brothers from the spanish cong and came into my house with a friend of mine (not another elder).
he said he wanted to talk to me, and he said it in front of my mom and my dad (both were there).. what was interesting is that it seems like it will be a one-on-one for half-hour.

I agree with ABS and OTWO. some months ago I was being contacted by a well meaning elder - got the same advice on this forum and followed it. I just texted the elder and said I couldn't make it because I was busy at work and that I would contact him when things had calmed down. The aim, as others have said in the past, is to take control of the situation away from the elder. some weeks later the elder contacted me again and I didn't reply. the last contact I had was a greetings card posted through my door.

This photo woke me up
by krejames in.
i was already on my way to my second fade when i went to the wildlife photographer of the year 2012 exhibition, but this photo made me lose faith in the idea of a loving creator......(the gazelle has been injured by the mother cheetah so she can use it to train her cubs to hunt).

haha @cantleave - but yes that's a pretty accurate reflection of what a witness would say...
Kate - yes that's kind of what went through my mind too. At the exhibition the photo was very large and the terror in the gazelle's face seemed to pierce through to the viewer (and to my consciousness)

WT's Crazed Obsession!
by JW GoneBad ini have recently read for the umpteenth time the 4 gospel accounts.
what caught my attention this time around was how many times jesus makes mention of the endeared expression father (with f in caps) when referring to his god as recorded by matthew, mark, luke and john.. what was also interesting by comparison is how little jesus actually makes reference to his father on a first name basis (jehovah) in these four books.. note my findings with the help of the comprehensive concordance:.
jehovah: matthew 11 times mark 8 times luke 26 times john 4 times (total 49 times).. father: mathew 43 times mark 4 times luke 21 times john 119 times (total 187 times).. .

WOW nice work Kim. I watched it all. Very compelling. That video had to be made because no JW would believe it if you told them the crap that guy was spouting down the phone. So sorry that it upset you because of your own family situtation with your mum. my goodness!

What is your weirdest field service experience ?
by cookiemaster inmine just popped in my head and i just had to share it.
a few years ago i went with a special pioneer(and elder) at one of his studies who was a cow herder in the mountains.
obviously, even though we were going to the middle of nowhere, where no one lived, we just had to go all dressed up in nice suits and all.

i remember working with my mum in FS and we called on a big(ish) house with one of those traditional bell chains. I pulled it expecting to hear the jangling of a bell but nothing happened. we carried on talking to each other. then I said to my mum "did you hear the bell ring?" she said no and tried pulling the chain. again nothing. so I said "I think it's stuck" so I pulled. By this time we were laughing. so my mum then pulled the chain trying to get it to ring. and so it went on. Suddenly a man's head and naked torso appeared out of the upstairs window, completely dripping wet, so stressed he was almost crying and shouting at us "what's your problem ringing my bell like that!" he went on. at which point I noticed that the chain simply connected to an electric bell so the poor guy must have been in the bath or shower listening to the insistent ringing of a door bell. We were laughing for ages about that but how annoying lol
There was another time I was working with an elder's wife and on her door this young lad answered and said "sorry, I can't stop I've got to wipe the kitten's bum". We were both laughing so much that her husband had to split us up.
