Back in the day, those who “never bought into the 1975 nonsense” certainly did an excellent job of keeping their views a secret!

Retirement savings
by TxNVSue2023 inwhat's the current jw stance on retirement savings?
i know it changed.
pre1975 it was an attitude of "don't worry about retirement, this system is ending soon".

Could this be the end of JWs? What are the consequences if it is?
by Teddnzo inmultiple very serious allegations against tony and then huge efforts to remove him from all pictures and videos, have to admit it doesn’t look good.. once the pennsylvania investigation becomes public knowledge and front page news it will be very very hard for 8 million pimis.. is it possible that this could be the largest problem the branch has ever faced?
larger than 1975, the overlapping generations or any other ‘test of faith’.
many will feel heartbroken and betrayed.

Haven’t we heard all this before?
(Yet despite everything - and like rats and cockroaches which survive a nuclear explosion - this bloody lot continues).

The Messianic Prophecies and Their Fulfillment in Jesus
by aqwsed12345 inthe belief in the messiah, which has lived in the collective consciousness of humanity since ancient times, became completely obscured among the gentiles, and only remained with the jewish people, who were later chosen by god, as the prophecies of the prophets kept it alive.
there was only one great promise in the old testament from god, which awaited fulfillment!
only one great desire was there in the old testament on the part of man, longing for satisfaction.

Fellow exElders: did you ever get to hear of ...
by no-zombie inwhen i was serving as an elder, it because relatively common to hear of wild drunken house parties of witness youths.
i investigated one, it was so bad that the cops turned up and found empty bottles of whiskey on the lawn and smashed out on the road.
but every led went cold, with all the kids clamming up.

The JWs I knew must have been a rather straight-laced lot ; I never knew of any of these type of occurrences.

Regarding new "Morning Worship" video - John Ekrann: "The Love of Money" (2 Tim. 3:2)
by EasyPrompt inthe man spends nine minutes and sixteen seconds condemning all the behaviors that the wtbt$ is guilty of without even realizing he's doing it.. .
(as he sits in a studio in a compound build with "voluntary donations" where they are fed and clothed and cleaned and insured with "voluntary donations" and drive cars purchased with "voluntary donations" all associated with a corporation founded on a selling-literature-business and now often funded by building/restoring real estate with slave labor and then selling it to pay for some elders at bethel to live on a lake and take jets to give talks to worshipful doting masses at convention centers in various parts of the earth.).
"but know this, that in the last days critical times hard to deal with will be here.

Are we living in the LAST DAYS?
by Fisherman inare we living in the prophetic last days that will climax into armageddon?
if this is true then how long should it take?
as jw saw it, wt compared timing to within a generation using 70 ad as a parallel.

THE LAST SAYS will indeed take place - some four billion years from now, when the sun finally runs out of nuclear fuel.

Is WT Teachig on Hell Biblical?
by Sea Breeze ini guess you could say jesus was the first christian, since he was the christ.
and as the first christian, jesus spoke more about hell that any other biblical figure.
but, he is also the figure that said that he didn't come to condemn the world, but to save it.

Discontinued about the time the Elder arrangement came in.
10 hours, one “bible study”, 12 magazines per month, so many books and so many “back calls” - or else you received The Pineapple.
Talk about Salvation by Report Card!

Did anyone really enjoy assemblies?
by SydBarrett inthe twickenham post made me think of this.
i have a few jw family members on facebook and being summertime, their pics of the convention have shown up in my fb feed.
along with their comments about "i wished it would never end" or "what a glorious weekend".

The time I most looked forward to was when the bloody thing was over and done with!
(Apart from the 1973 Divine Victory International Assembly, when I fell in love for the very first time. That did add a bit of gloss to it).

This practice ceased in the early 1970s, just before the elder arrangement was introduced. Afterwards, it was described as being when “The Society used to set goals for us”.
