jw view gambling as a sin and sadly people get addicted to gambling causing them financial and health problems.
but is playing a couple of bucks a week on some lottery tickets actually gambling?

A common warning about gambling which is frequently flashed across the TV screen in this country reads : “You win some, you loose more”
I am saying this from the bar of the local football club, while my wife is having a play on the poker machines!
She, though, knows her limit, so it is never a problem. While never into gambling myself, I don’t see a flutter on a lottery ticket as being a problem - as long as a person knows when to stop.

pre1975 it was an attitude of "don't worry about retirement, this system is ending soon".
Further to this, back when I defied my parents and threw my lot in with the JWs, my father did warn me that, if I ever got into any trouble, the only people who would help me would be the family - whom I had spurned.
Bloody hell, but was he right on the money!
This includes, too, that Jehovah character whom we were told to trust in. He (or she/they/it or whatever) was always very conspicuous by his absence when a person was down to the bones of their backside!

Sounds a bit like the Dervishes in the Sudan. Their religious leader assured them that their "faith would render them bulletproof". However, though, if they did get themselves shot, it was all their own fault for "not having enough faith".
Similarly, the WTS/GB assures its adherents that as long as they "put Jehovah first" then all their material needs will be met. However, if they do experience material hardship, as your ex-wife did, then it is still their own fault for "not being more balanced."
In other words, if everything goes right then it is a case of "We told you that was going to happen"; but if it all goes wrong, then it is very much as case of "It's your own bloody fault".
Talk about expecting to have it both ways!

that is pretty early given the 12 billion year age of the universe assigned by scholars who adhere to naturalism.

Back in the day, those who “never bought into the 1975 nonsense” certainly did an excellent job of keeping their views a secret!
multiple very serious allegations against tony and then huge efforts to remove him from all pictures and videos, have to admit it doesn’t look good.. once the pennsylvania investigation becomes public knowledge and front page news it will be very very hard for 8 million pimis.. is it possible that this could be the largest problem the branch has ever faced?

when i was serving as an elder, it because relatively common to hear of wild drunken house parties of witness youths.
i investigated one, it was so bad that the cops turned up and found empty bottles of whiskey on the lawn and smashed out on the road.
but every led went cold, with all the kids clamming up.
The JWs I knew must have been a rather straight-laced lot ; I never knew of any of these type of occurrences.
