Yes! π So proud of you! You were able to have a reasonable conversation with your parents. Seems you were respectful and made some valid points since things worked out in your favor for the time being at least. Enjoy your new freedom to begin the life of your dreams! π

Told My Parents Yesterday That I Don't Want to Be a JW
by Saethydd ini wasn't entirely sure what to expect when i made the decision to tell my parents how i really feel, but i was prepared for the worst, fortunately, it didn't come to that.
after i told them i didn't want to go to the meetings anymore it led to a long talk with them.
they made a number of irksome and woefully uninformed statements but at least they were not aggressive and have said that they won't force me to move out over this, though, i can tell they are hoping they can convince me to "accept the truth," as long as i still live with them.

Gas! Hands down, for all of the above reasons. Plus, on a cold winter day you can toast a marshmallow on it for fun. It works! π

Did you ever have a discussion with an apostate that helped your journey out.
by jwfacts inthere seems to be a number of different ways that apostates try to get jehovah's witnesses realise they do not have the truth, ranging from subtle comments to aggressive attacks.
do you have any that looking back helped you finally leave.
some of the methods include:.

No, I had been taught all of my life that apostates are dangerous and if we listened to them or read their literature we would be pulled into Satan's"system" immediately. This was reinforced because as a child on several occasions over the years someone would rush up to the stage at the district conventions yelling things out. Several brothers would have to literally pull them back and out of the stadium, it was quite a scene. Also, it was really scary for me as a little kid who had no idea what it was all about. I hope anyone who considers this tactic will seriously think about the feelings of small children and the many sensitive and sincere Witnesses in attendance.
I realized the Watchtower Society was wrong by what few critical thinking skills I had learned outside of it. Also, the small number of family members who left years before were always respectful of my beliefs. They were the ones I went to with my doubts. Fortunately, the very first site I came across after that, when I dared to look on the internet was JW facts. Thank you with all my heart, Paul.Just as it is called, it's all facts. Solid information backed by references to their own publications confirmed that my doubts were valid. The video Growing up a Jehovah's Witness was excellent. Later, this support forum is what got me through the initial stages. Thank you so much, Simon. My view is that angry and/or sarcastic ex-jw videos, tactless words to any current members, or any level of aggression to wake up individuals has the very opposite effect. I hope it ends.

last convention before global attack on witnesses
by Phoebe inso it's not enough that i'm dealing with post traumatic stress/anxiety and panic attacks all related to my life as a jw (50 years baptized -- i stopped going a couple of months ago) at 3 a.m. i get an email from the other side of the world.
'you have to go to the convention.
bro sanderson says we must watch the news, things are happening.

Hugs to you Phoebe, you will heal from this! Many have as you see from the comments above.
I'm also on your journey, it's been a year last month. I'm still working to overcome the mind control. Especially the fear aspect of the FOG methods. I have no feelings or guilt or obligation, in fact the opposite. I'm relaxing and educating myself rather than wasting hours every week on that ridiculous "spiritual routine." You will too, it's great. But the fear, it's harder for me and it seems maybe that way for you too.
I really had a hard time with the Russian ban though, I actually got to thinking that it would happen here as well. What a stretch! Just because my name is still in the files in New York, I thought I'd be a target too. It went on for days, finally I talked with my daughter, a long time ex -jw. She reminded me of the very things this thread is about. We've been taught paranoia over things like this our entire life. For me even though I absolutely know the Watchtower is wrong, wrong wrong, it kicked in anyway. π
The programming runs deep through our minds. The set of lies that we've been taught is not only damaging intellectually but to our emotions as well. Including losing the mythical Paradise we hoped for. It's going to be alright, we'llβ get better little by little! Best wishes and love to you, pm me anytime if you like. We can share notes of our progress. π

2017 Convention Video To Be Shown Regarding The 1975 Failure
by pale.emperor inhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=go3arnnsfkk&feature=youtu.be.
no mention whatsoever that it was watchtower themselves that strongly hinted towards this date.
instead they blame those who "put their trust in a date, not jehovah".. let's recap... .

What low-down pathetic liars! There should be a picture of the Governing Body and the old Watchtower sign from Brooklyn next the definitions of lies and deception in every dictionary.
I looked some up and here's few things that fit them like a glove. They lie compulsively, they do so out of habit, it's their normal and reflexive way of answering questions. It's second natureβ and they're sociopathic manipulators too, with no conscience whatsoever.
Another group of JW's who will fall for this is the really young ones. Even the not so young, like those just a few years before me and I'm 58. They didn't live through it like so many of us. My younger siblings didn't understand it because they were not even teenagers yet. By the time they were, the emphasis on 1975 was over and done. They haven't read any of the excerpts posted above, they have no clue! They are going to soak up this video deception hook, line and sinker. I could write for an hour on this subject but I need to calm down. I'm going to go meditate for an hour. Such a sinister cult. π£

Alerts etc
by Xanthippe ini wonder if it's possible for those of us who've been out decades to have alerts or alternatively see a grouping of threads in a folder or something similar if something actually happens of interest in the borg.. i'm not really interested in the day to day stuff about this cult but i would like to know if anything drastically changes as my siblings and their kids are still trapped.
i don't know anything about creating the code for forums so i don't know what is possible but if you don't ask you don't get.
this is not a criticism it's just time for me to move on and just drop in occasionally..

Speaking of changes in the terminology, I think the time period following the Great Tribulation has been changed at least three times over the years. This is how I remember it, corrections are welcome. Lol.
It started with *The New Worldβ.* As in "The New Word Translation of the Holy Scriptures."
Next it was changed to *The New Order* because they decided the literal planet won't be destroyed (just 99%of the people)so the first term wasn't accurate. The third was *The New System.* I don't know what they call it now, somewhere along the line I've lost track. π I'm pretty sure they flip-flopped back and forth at some point on the last two.
To me it sounds like every single one of them, The New World, The New System, The New Order, are terms that would be used in a Cult. As in the Watchtower Cult. πΆ

The new personality
by longgone ini've been thinking about the changes we make within ourselves after leaving the wts cult.
i'm not referring to how we spend our time now that we actually have some, but who we have become, or working to be?.
the gb carries on and on about "stripping off the old personality and putting on the new one.

Hi everyone! I've been thinking about the changes we make within ourselves after leaving the WTS cult. I'm not referring to how we spend our time now that we actually have some, but who we have become, or working to be?
The GB carries on and on about "stripping off the old personality and putting on the new one." I personally think what they are really saying, is to become clones of their ideas of who they, the GB want us to be!
Even give up or even lose our own identity and in the case of some born-in like myself, sad to say we may not even fully formed our own. My question is for example, do you think are you more creative now, or have greater balance, losing that black and white thinking. Perhaps more adventurous, or decisive? Who are you becoming, now that you can decide for yourself?
Side note, I apologise for grammar errors, I'm working on becoming a grammar nerd myself. π

Birthday Party
by OnTheWayOut ini have posted less and less personal threads because less and less jw-related activity has happened in my life.
my jw mother called me on friday and asked me if i could do something on saturday.
i was sure my wife would ask me if anyone asked about her, and what i said.

A sad incident here. I remember some years ago a family with two little boys had a small party for all the little kids in the congregation. It was very sweet and the family gave gifts to all the children.
At the next meeting a sister carrying her little boy maybe only three years old, chuckled and told me that afterward he had said to her, " Nobody even got their head chopped off!"
It's a really sick religion that has preschoolers thinking things like that. Where would he get such a distorted idea? Hmm, that would be while sitting on his mother's lap, reading My Book of Bible Stories! Full color illustrations no less.
Very sad. This is why we throw out most of that crazy cult literature when we see it for what it is. π
