  Did being a witness bring out the best or worst?

  a person years ago made a comment to me, about witnesses.

  they said that in their opinion, being a witness brought out the extreme in a person.. for example, if they were untrusting, they would trust less.. if they were vindictive by nature, they would become more hateful and vindictive.. if they were kind and loving, they would even be more so.. basically, whatever type of person they were, being a witness would intensify that persona.. have you found that to be true?

  maybe you knew someone before they came a witness.

  I think many people take advantage of thier jobs or careers in much the same way as people in a religious org. For example: The security guard at the local bank, or small town city cop who because he brandishes a badge, he can now boss everyone around, or your local dub elder who pulls you to the back room because he seen something he didnt like.

  Really in the long run, i think its who you are to begin with. Personally, i think it made me extra judgemental of other people in and out of the borg.

  I dont have a problem believing everything else, but i have a hard time imagining loyal dubs yelling out racial slurs. This is just the opposite of what the Borg promotes too.

  Does anybody here harass conventioneers?

  i remember the good old days back in the 80's, when i was but a tiny tot, and folks used to stand outside the convention with megaphones and shout and try to hand out apostate literature.. now that i'm older, it sounds like fun.

  anybody do that kind of thing these days?.

  Funny thing you brought that up. Ive been thinking on the subject myself lately. I remember the same thing when i was a kid. At one district assy. in North Carolina, one of them dressed up like a brother (suit, tie, ect.) and stood by the backstage right before they introduced the new speaker, and walked up to the podium when they introduced the speaker. Everybody (exept for the real speaker) thought it was the speaker. He started out in a normal fashion (no screaming or yelling) untill he said an anti-JW word or something, and two or three brothers ran up and grabbed him. Then he started yelling and kicking, and screaming, as they dragged him off stage. Ahhh i still remember the buzz over that one. I bet they talked about that for years.

  Mostly i remember several protestors that would stand around yelling at everybody usually on thier way into the assy. hall. It always kind of un-nerved me, yet there was always something exiting about it all. I don't remember seeing any in the early 90's (i left in 93) Someone said earlier on this post that they still get out?

  Before and After pics

  remember those pics that were often to be found in the wt/a mags.

  i'm thinking of the ones where you'd get a group of teenagers 'hanging out' in a back street or some corner.the females would often have seriously backcombed and toussled hair and a scowl on their face and the males were often depicted as yobbos, leering and jeering and looking as menacing as was possible for jws playing make believe!.

  then...miracle of miracles, there would be the 'after' shot where the amazing transformation had taken place and suddenly these youths would have radiant kingdom smiles, ankle length skirts and hair slides.

  Good point. I've often wondered the same thing. And what about all those religious icons, like crosses, rosary beads, robes, ect......they must have a storeroom full of that stuff.

  i'm sure this subject must have been covered on this forum before, but i'm still kind of new around here and haven't found any threads on it.

  so, my appologies in advance.

  it has been brought to my attention that charles russell had ties to the masonic lodge, and was involved with other forms of spiritistic practices, other than just the "pyramid" thing.

  One thing you might already be aware of, is his use of the "Cross and Crown" a masonic symbol that appeared on the Zion magazine regularly.

  DF'ed for Organ Transplants?

  i'm in a discussion with a jw who is claiming that the society never actually prohibited organ transplants between 1967 and 1980. she has read the 1967 article, but feels that, since the article does not specifically state that anyone taking a transplant will be disfellowshipped, that it was simply discouraged, but not prohibited.. can anyone help with a reference demonstrating that jw's could be df'ed during that period for accepting a transplant?

  Great Posts!!!

  Brings back ole memories of polyester pants, crewcuts, and carrying some leather bag that was almost half as big as me full of JW litature. Dad never bought another T.V after the ole black and white one broke. I remember not being able to watch six million dollar man with Lee Majors, cuz it was too violent.(haaa... can u believe it?) I finally bought a color T.V for the family when i was sixteen and working.

  No after school friends, no spending the night anywhere, no extra cirricular activities like sports, no wild music(anything with 4/4 timing was too fast and wild)( although they did let me joing the school band,) and definately no girls calling the house, or letter writing. When the senior prom thing came up, a nice JW girl from out of state (her parents and mine were friends) wanted to come stay with us for a week or so, and go to the prom with me. Dad said no, because of what the neighbors might think.

  My brother in law wouldnt let his kids wear jeans either, and my father in law wasnt allowed to have a deck of cards in the house. LOL!!!!!

  Caught Red Handed at a Funeral Home

  while making a run to the local drug store last night, i noticed before getting out of my truck, an active jw (who rides his bicycle everywhere) coasting in front of me, parking his bike, and disapeared into the store.

  i see him all the time and i know he sees me, but not sure if he's ignoring me, or just plain cant see.

  maybe thats why he dont drive a car.

  thanks.. using the 1999 wt cd-rom, i did a search of watchtower articles containing the jw catch-phrase, "thousands are disfellowshipped each year...".
