I know the Bible is True
by SwedishChef ini know the bible is true because.... * it is infallible.
there is not one contradiction with these pages.
humans are fallible; the bible is not.. * the word of god is the source of true wisdom.

Thanks for the post, Swedish Chef. From the replies that have followed, it looks like God hasn't opened alot of hearts yet. Just like its written, "God has given them the spirit of slumber, eyes that they should not see, and ears that they should not hear unto this day" (Rom 11:8) "I will have mercy on whom i will have mercy"(Rom 9:15)
Why do we always think that God owes us anything? If he decided to save just one person, he would still be just.

JW view of swearing on the bible?
by Golden Girl indoes anyone remember how they used to view this?..like in a court of law..when they have to put their hand on a bible and swear to tell the truth?.
but the latest watchtower says it is a personal decision..yet they quote nothing but scriptures to support doing it!..i can't remember what they taught.
snoozy....

Then what did Fred Franz swear by when he was on trial in Scotland in the 1950's? I remember reading he took the WITNESS STAND (no pun intended) several times. Was that teaching in effect then?

Scriptural Basis of not believing in Hell
by Tirisilex ini am not a jehovah witness however i'm ver interested in jw doctrine.
i consider myself somewhat of a scholar.. i first attempted to get my questions answered by having jw's come to my home.
however, i was most disappointed because they were too busy trying to recruit me than trying to answer my questions.

Tirisilex,
Welcome aboard. As you can see, you will get more of the negative side of the JW's on this site, due to their stringent laws, cutting family, friends, ect.. off for not staying in line with them. But i think you can pick through the negativity, and get some real good info. If i can be of any assistance, let me know.

Huh? Watchtower necklace charms?!!
by DanTheMan in.
on page 105 of her book awakening of a jehovah's witness, diane wilson writes that she knew many witness women "who wore a charm of a watchtower on a necklace as an outward symbol of the organization, the source of their salvation".. i have never heard of this practice, and i find it difficult to believe.
can anyone verify that this indeed is true, that at one time it was common for jw women to wear watchtower charms?

dantheman,
My wifes aunt wears one around her neck. A gold necklace with a small emblem of a tower. The same one used on the cover of the WT magazines. OF course my ex-jw sister-n-law pointed out to her it was no different than a cross.

Did being a witness bring out the best or worst?
by freedom96 ina person years ago made a comment to me, about witnesses.
they said that in their opinion, being a witness brought out the extreme in a person.. for example, if they were untrusting, they would trust less.. if they were vindictive by nature, they would become more hateful and vindictive.. if they were kind and loving, they would even be more so.. basically, whatever type of person they were, being a witness would intensify that persona.. have you found that to be true?
maybe you knew someone before they came a witness.

I think many people take advantage of thier jobs or careers in much the same way as people in a religious org. For example: The security guard at the local bank, or small town city cop who because he brandishes a badge, he can now boss everyone around, or your local dub elder who pulls you to the back room because he seen something he didnt like.
Really in the long run, i think its who you are to begin with. Personally, i think it made me extra judgemental of other people in and out of the borg.

"she has called us racial slurs and everything"
I dont have a problem believing everything else, but i have a hard time imagining loyal dubs yelling out racial slurs. This is just the opposite of what the Borg promotes too.
