Nepotism and Simony

i've read on here about connected families within congregations who seem to get all the "privileges".

how likely is an elder's son, or other relative, to rise within the ranks?.

i imagine it's harder to do it that way once you start to ascend the ranks.

Nepotism? Simony? Within the "perfect" congregation ruled entirely by "Holy Spirit"?

My father said one time, "Anyone who says nepotism or money does not influence bodies of elders as to who is appointed is either very naive or outright lying!"

When he said that he was an elder, he was according to rank and file JW's the only elder they trusted, and according to the other elder's he was feared and hated because he didn't rubber stamp everything and he went to bat for the average am ha'aretz. Whether in the congregation or his employment he had the reputation of being in the words of the president of the company he worked for "religiously ethical and honest."

In the congregation I faded from I saw that the only ones appointed over the twenty years I was there were either family of elders, or had been "studied" with by elders.

Like the one about the guy on mike duty, who forgets to mute the mike when he goes to the toilet 🚽.

That actually did happen. I was there visiting. I was not in that congregation, but it was Fargo, North Dakota (USA) in the early seventies. Don't remember the guys last name, but first name was George. He was a bit slow. Deceased many years ago as far as I know.

The "Problem" With Zoom

here is the org's problem with zoom, attending this way does not fit with their "scriptural definition" of a christian gathering.

at least not anymore, one thing my pimi wife is fine with is attending on zoom occasionally, even 2-3 times a month or so.. if some of you recall, during covid there were break out rooms setup for people to stay on and associate.

many would also stay in the main meeting and talk over each other trying to say hello, etc.

Just over 11 years ago already. It was July 01, 2012 that I was loaded down with the final straw and decided NO MORE. I had worked hard, saved as much as I could, invested when I could, and had retired early seven years prior, in order to pursue building my own ag. related business. I guess they thought that for some reason having some savings and investments to live on made me rich.

Certain people will be privately approached by some elder with an envelope asking for money for some ‘needy’ person(s).

I may have mentioned it on other threads, when I was still running the hamster wheel I was one of the ones always being tapped for money. When I finally became fed up I told one elder who came to me envelope in hand wanting some money for a couple to get to the convention I told him I noticed that they had both recently bought brand new I-phones and perhaps if they would have spent their money more wisely they would not be facing financial difficulty getting to the CONventnion. That was when pay-as-you-go phones could be had for less than $10.00 and plans could be had for less than $30.00 per month. I never gave a thing after that.

Where is everyone? 😆

i had a day off today and needed to get some errands done in my local town.

2 carts have allocated here but i never ever see anyone out, even on very nice days.

70% of the congregation don’t work.

Reminds me of the saying, "Sometimes the loudest argument is complete silence."

How Do Jehovah's Witnesses View Education?

This quote from another source says exactly what my belief is as to the JW view of education.

People with higher intelligence tend to be harder to control for various reasons. First off, they are able to think for themselves and cannot be as easily controlled through rhetoric, propaganda, emotional manipulations and intimidation. Stupid people are easily manipulated and will go along with anybody who has an easy answer for them or easily digestible rhetoric to follow.

I always seemed to have thought that most JW's were a bit mentally challenged and nothing has changed my opinion.

One time my father and I were conversing about some of the things that we saw in the JW's that seemed "off". I mentioned that I had been told by an elder, "You THINK to much!" My father replied, "No, they don't think ENOUGH!"

Quick builds

what was the standard of quick builds.

did they cut corners, ignore building regulations, were they unsafe .

Thereafter, we had safety meetings and safety crews onsite throughout the completion of the building.

I remember being subjected to those. The last one I was at was nearly 15 years ago and the head RBC guy was yapping along about how everyone MUST wear a hardhat at all times while inside the building as it was a construction zone. Then he read off some scripture about the sanctity of life, and how wearing the hardhat showed "we" respected life and loved Jehovah. All the while he had his hardhat under his arm! At that point I took mine off, threw it on the floor and said, "If YOU don't have to wear yours, I don't have to wear mine!" And then I walked off the job.

Did Geoffrey Jackson lie under oath at the ARC?

i understand he intimated that the faithful slave was not the only spokesman for jehovah god.

he also intimated that corporal punishment was not advocated by the wts.

we're these lies or deception or did they represent the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth?.

Jackson when saying, "It would SEEM presumptuous. . ." was implying that it would seem that way to those who did not drink the 'kool-aid'. He never said it would BE presumptuous.

Quickbuilds have been often plagued with mold

The hall I used to go to had that happen. Hail damaged the $60,000 concrete roofing that was sold as never needing replaced or repaired and the JW roofers who replaced it roofed right over all the HVAC and sewer vents. Then COVID hit and for three years that hall sat empty with sewer gas, and HVAC condensate filling up the interior. Coupled with landscaping that ran run-off water towards the building they have had to remove all the brick work, replace all the wall sheathing, and many of the wall studs. Then they keep "reminding" the ones still going to "show your love for Jehovah and remember to donate for the high cost of this repair."

They should have just demolished the building and sent the remaining members to the hall in the next town ten miles (US) over.
