I also heard the remark about ‘putting too much stock in 1975’ over the years by some older JWs.

My parents were ones who even though what may have been termed "spiritually strong" were always cautioning the 75'ers to not place stock in 1975. They kept telling them that "no one knows the day or hour." They taught me to work hard, save money, and invest wisely for the future. They were very generous to those that had true need, but also not afraid to tell the users and professional lazy to "pound sand". They had no money to give to those that counted on 1975 to get them out of debt. The only thing they had for the disappointed 75'ers was a blunt, "We told you so!"

I do not know of many who sold things to prove how "spiritual" they were. I do know personally of quite a number on the other side of the coin that went wild spending money like there was no tomorrow and accumulated crushing debt, with low or no income, because the end was going to come in 1975 and they would not have to pay it back. New cars, new homes, fancy jewelry and clothes, you name it they bought it. Then when 1975 came and went, and the debts came due they had no income to pay it, no hopes a decent job to provide income to pay the debt because they also foolishly bought into the "You don't need and education" B.S. And now they are in their seventies or older and still grubbing out a meager living with failing health and no chance of ever having anything different.

I have ZERO pity for them!

New rules for inactive ones?

have the rules changed as far as disfellowshipping inactive ones when it's clear they are engaged in "wrongdoing?".

i have a cousin in seattle who was disfellowshipped about 3 years ago or so and then went through the process of being reinstated (took only 6 months) and then proceeded to fade and do nothing regarding the jw's .

fast forward to today and now she's had a baby out of wedlock and the uber jw elder father and mother are all on board somehow.

Most certainly! My father one time told me, "If anyone tells you that favoritism, or family nepotism does not come into play for decisions made in the congregation you can bet they are either ignorantly naive, or they are lying!"

No wonder other brothers hated him.

IF there are still people living here it will be only a small group of super wealthy, ruling over a larger group of slaves who are disposable at a whim.

After re-thinking my answer I may try to give it a JW take. It will be a small group of super "spiritual" elders, ruling over a larger great crowd of useless sheep who can be disfellowshipped and stoned to death on a whim with no notice, for any reason that the elders will cook up between themselves in order to retain dominion over the "sheep".

In my opinion, uninhabited. IF there are still people living here it will be only a small group of super wealthy, ruling over a larger group of slaves who are disposable at a whim.

on halloween night, police arrested two people who were dressed up individually as a battery and a firework rocket.

they charged one and let the other off.. police in london are investigating the theft of dogs throughout the city.. they don't have any leads.. i found a large box filled with kodak 35 mm camera film, and handed it in to the police.. they said they'd let me know if there were any developments.. police recovered a valuable stolen microscope.. they say they're looking into it.. yorkshire police can't establish what's wrong with the sat-navs in their new fleet of squad cars.. they're still looking for leeds.. police are investigating the theft of a perpetual motion device.

they say it's an ongoing inquiry.. the old ones are the best!

I don't believe our cousins across the water quite get or perhaps appreciate 'British banter'.

I'm American. That said I find humor from your side of the pond to be much more entertaining and funny than what is provided on this side. Of course it may be my heritage as my great-grandfather was a minister in Nottingham and his son was what we call a lawyer and was schooled in London, and practiced in Nottingham before emigrating to Canada and then the U.S.

Agreed. It's a lot like the continual occupation of space in the minds of those who don't like President Mean Tweets. Two years on and they are still letting him control them by reason of their permanent TDS. Still rehashing russia. . .Russia. . .RUSSIA, drink bleach to stop COVID, and all the other long since disproved, massaged, and manipulated false stories about that former president.

BTW, am I the only one who wonders about a pretty recent member here whose posts sound an awful lot like they could be written by that other ex-JW? Maybe it is him, and he is here keeping tabs on how preoccupied some still are with him?

I rely on this board to keep me grounded , surrounded as I am in life by WT diehards.

Coming here for me is much like getting a shot of oxygen in an air polluted WT atmosphere that I find myself surrounded by, even though I have faded from most of their radar.
