  happy new year!

  time to give us your vote for lloyd's fall from grace this month.. december 6th he was at 406. as of today, january 3rd, he's at 388. that is exactly, on the dot, where he was january 3rd of last year!

  he's lost all gains from his begging videos and reminders and tin cup waving and etc.. so, fire up the shrooms and let us know where you think flab boy will be on february 2nd.

  Precisely. In my exjw circle, I've been saying the same thing since it happened. He failed at managing the PR crisis tremendously.

  Even narcissists don't shy away from apologizing. They don't mean the apology, but they will apologize if failing to apologize means they'll lose any kind of status.

  i put 18 solar panels on my house but only get a small rebate $50 a quarter.

  bill is $400.

  Solar companies in my neck of the woods are extremely predatory and use very shady JW-like sales practices.

  On the topic of crap sales practices:

  Never sign up for one of those "free water testing" things when you go to the hardware store.

  These are usually run by water softener companies (Rainsoft in my area) and they come by your house and do a really hard sell. They require your spouse to be there too, only for the reason in that it's hard for you to refuse the sale if your spouse is convinced.

  The companies that do sales tactics like this are usually overpriced compared to competitors, and it's really hard to say no.

  I was promised that the "free water test" would only take 20 minutes and the sales guy ended up being here for 3 hours. I was way too polite and should've told him to STFU and leave. It was the most painful sales experience I ever had.

  i have been watching a youtube creator who had some thoughts on the subject, bringing out jw were not really christian, based upon their actions.

  he made a pretty good case.

  All Christian religions and denominations claim the same thing.

  The so called love among themselves is shallow and conditional.

  The same can be said for all religions claiming to be Christian as well.

  It's true that JWs have a lot of problems and their theology is demonstrably false. Not because they're JWs, but because they are Christian. Being wrong about how the universe works doesn't make JWs any less Christian than any other denomination.

  What sets JWs apart from the rest of the charlatans is the high-control aspect of their ecclesiastical rules.

  This has nothing to do with "not being Christian."

  It's important not to fall prey to the No True Scotsman fallacy.

  a relative sent me yesterday's wt study article 46, how jehovah guarantees his promise of paradise.. it's been a long time since i read one of those articles but what really struck me about this one is that, considering it's discussing a fundamental jw belief, it only mentions jesus twice as an aside, and not at all as the central figure like the bible does.

  it actually mentions satan far more in the same article!.

  i don't remember this discrepancy from my time in the org 15 years ago.

  Firstly, anyone complaining about the name "Jehovah" should also complain about the name "Jesus" as Jesus wasn't even his name either. His name was Yeshua.

  Secondly, Jesus is only a central figure in one part of the Bible.

  Thirdly, just because the JW's don't view Jesus as equal to God like trinitarian Christians do doesn't mean he takes a back seat. They literally call him the "Greatest Man Who Ever Lived." A disagreement about one fictional doctrine versus another fictional doctrine does not mean JW's are any less Christian than the church down the road. It's the very definition of the No True Scotsman fallacy.

  (Disclaimer: I do not consider myself a Christian or even a believer in the divine, although I do believe Jesus was a real person and the sermon on the mount was a great representation of a Judeo-Buddhist hybrid philosophy.)
