  What's the Worst Advice You Heard of an Elder Giving Someone?

  i believe an an elder told someone who's daughter (14 yo) became sexually active with a 26 year old in the neighborhood, that maybe they should get married.

  so, they did... with parental consent.

  he turned out to be a ex-convict who shot his first wife in the face with a shotgun.

  “Thank God I resisted these people or it could have ruined my life”

  A shame you had to suffer as long as you did. I really regret everything I put my now middle-age daughter through in the past years due to the ‘advice’ of these self-righteous pompous opinionated persons (Can you believe one of them sternly told me I didn’t discipline my daughter properly, - 5 years old at the time, - but that I should be hitting her very hard indeed.)

  I hate myself when I think now of all the good times we could have enjoyed together instead of spending so much time working for the ‘Organisation’

  Happily, she does not hold this against me now, she came out from them at the same time I did a few years ago.

  so, if god cannot lie, for what purpose and why did he create creatures (satan, demons, humans) who can lie?.

  Therapy with an EXJW therapist that’s working for me

  for years after leaving i was afraid of going to therapy or seeking help with a counselor to unpack my jehovah’s witness upbringing and shunning.

  i think one of the things i like the most about therapy with an exjw therapist is that i dont have to explain every detail.

  she knows my issues and it saves time and $$ in sessions.

  I have been recently working with a councillor locally who introduced me to the ‘Karpman Drama Triangle’. An eye-opener if there ever was one.

  All I can say is she turned my life right around, not easy since I am in my middle seventies, having been a raving lunatic JW for six decades, but now I am even more determined never ever to have anything whatsoever to do with them.

  I received help as a result of visiting the local ‘Robert Horrell’ centre at the local hospital, (my husband has metastatic cancer, and it appears I am able to receive help from them as his next of kin and sole carer.

  I agree with you, surely it must be left to an individual’s conscience, how can it be right to force anyone to shun or not shun, based on rules and regulations of any government, religion or other power-seeking organisation?

  Regional Convention Attendance

  elder friend of mine texted me asking what my rc attendance was 2 weeks ago (family and i streamed it since wife is not well).

  he told me that his rc in the jersey city assembly hall last weekend was low.

  co told them that around 2600 were the total from 16+ congs that were assigned.

  Ooooooo Stan, I remember that one!

  8 days of soggy muddy hell! (Sorry, - it wasn’t that warm)

  The coach drivers were having punch-ups in the parking lot and some passengers couldn’t find their coaches.

  So many people went home that year with an awful flu-like virus, (myself included), a day’s journey back to the north-west U.K. Was off work for two months and lost a stone in weight because of that blessed assembly!

  But pity the poor mothers with youngsters and babies, and the elderly and infirm ones!

  Journeyman,

  I remember, decades ago, sitting in the stadium of Crystal Palace football ground for the entire circuit assembly frozen cold and soaking wet from drizzle/rain!

  Oh happy days!!!?

  Now they want my elderly not very well husband to sit in another football stadium in Milton Keynes for an entire weekend, after a gruelling bus journey for a couple of hours each way, - it grieves me.

  although we respect those who are taking the lead, we accept jesus’ clear teaching: “all of you are brothers.”".

  Madison,

  Truly I hope your story will end in at least some peace and freedom from the fears you have currently.

  What you have disclosed is traumatic and disturbing.

  It sounds like your husband is a psychopath, and I fear for your future, and that of your children, but hopefully, maybe, people at your place of work may come to understand your situation and perhaps be able to give a level of support.

  Your neighbours also, might be alerted to the fact this man may cause you physical harm, and be ready to help?

  In the meantime, are there any local charities that help persons in your situation, that you could reach out to?

  I find it hard to trust people after leaving JW’s, but I know there are many out there who would help if they knew your situation.

  Since I live in the U.K. I am personally of no use to you at all, (aged, sick and impoverished, wouldn’t you know it?) - but I wish you every good thing and every blessing you and your kids deserve. ❤️
