James Beverley's book on Penton's expulsion now on Abebooks
by MrMonroe in"crisis of allegiance" is a slim, but excellent book written by a professor of religion on the events in lethbridge, alberta, around 1981, that led to the expulsion of jim penton, a jw who believed he was anointed but also happened to think the wts had some doctrines wrong.. it's a great read that ties in quite closely with the campaign to get rid of ray franz, showing the dirty tricks used by the society to rid themselves of someone who dared to question them.
penton was an academic who the society loved when he wrote a book on their human rights legal challenges ... but when he expanded his research and decided to do a book on their history, pow!
they began regarding him with great suspicion.

I find it interesting that you guys are critical of him partaking with the JWs making comments like:
"Why would someone want to take part in their rituals after disassociating from them?
Sounds like you’ve never really left."
And ...
"Why would anyone even want to visit a KH after 5 years out?"
Seems like most here haven't left either. You sit at your computers discussing the Witnesses, you haven't moved on.
So of you been "out" longer than you've been "in" and the JWs are still part of your life.

Isn’t JW’s teaching of “the abomination that causes desolation” wrong?
by Abraham1 inwhat “the abomination that causes desolation” mentioned in mathew 24:15 means could be understood only by close followers of jesus because it was part of his personal discussion with them.
by stopping to greet those whom they consider as “their enemies” jws are identifying themselves as “pagans,” according to jesus.
(mathew 5:43-48) thus they cannot correctly understand what the abomination that causes desolation” that would appear as part of signs of “last days.”.

"Midnight Mass" on Netflix
by smiddy3 ini watched the 7 part series and finished today .what struck me about the show was how one could cherry pick scriptures to believe whatever you want to believe.. the use of scriptures to back up the beliefs was in my mind an eye opener.. ok so it was over the top and a horror supernatural series with a bit of blood and gore, and if your a bit squeamish about that sort of thing close your eyes till those parts are over .. but what i found fascinating ,intriguing, was how one of the main characters used scriptures to enforce her understanding of how they applied to the here and now of the series.. cherry picking of scriptures to believe what you want to believe, with a little help from a priest ,pastor ,organization.. i would recommend it ,as you can easily see how, their are now more than 40,000 different christian sects in the world including the mainstream ones who believe they only have the "truth".. i welcome your thoughts if you have seen it.. ps.
obviously their are no jw`s on this island ..

They want so much to believe that's they're special and chosen especially after serving the Society for so many years that they'll do anything to justify themselves
