Is it just me, or is Pimo's reasoning about the most selfish thing you've ever heard?
"I'm fine with it, lots of benefits for me, screw you and everyone else".
what is the harm or downside of being pimo?.
i get all the good things about being in the cong, good social life lots of invites to bbqs and meals out.
lots of interesting gossip 🤣🤣🤣🤣.

what do jehovah’s witnesses do during election period in australia?
i learnt voting is compulsory in australia and those who choose not to vote are fined.
do jehovah’s witnesses pay such fines?.
Here is the official JW position from the "Keep Yourselves in God's Love" book, page 213:
What should a Christian do in lands where voting is compulsory or in a situation where feelings run high against those who do not go to the voting booth? Remembering that Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego went as far as the plain of Dura, a Christian, under similar circumstances, may decide to go to the booth if his conscience permits. However, he will take care not to violate his neutrality.
The basic message (which they are too cowardly to put into print for fear of lawsuits / fines / taxation) is, "go to the voting booth, yes into the literal physical booth itself, but don't actually vote for anyone".
I think I've heard anecdotes about JWs producing write-in votes for "Jehovah", "Jesus Christ", etc.
lot going on.
i had a covid divorce last year over zoom.
not pretty but i got a good deal.. anyway,.
Just tacking onto my earlier post:
Think about all the infants & toddlers now, everyone under the age of 4 or so. None of them have likely ever been in, or can remember, small enclosed places with 50-100 other people around...much less ever been required to be quiet and near-motionless for 2 hours at a time.
10's of thousands of JW infants & toddlers, suddenly getting an overwhelming sensory overload.
"All these people! The colors! The sounds! The smells! Hey, I think I'll celebrate by shouting for joy just like I do at home! Let me crawl over there, that looks cool!....
"Hey mom & dad, why are you shushing me now? I'm just doing what I've done for literally my entire life! Hey! Wait! Don't swat me! Don't...."
Yet another generation of JW kids, as the pattern repeats.....
can a witness date and court a jw student if he intends to get baptized?
.
"Can"?
JWs "can" do a lot of things. But there are many things that will result in varying degrees of ostracism.
Dating an unbeliever (in JW-world, an "unbeliever" is someone not baptized as a JW) is pretty high up on the bad list.
A JW wouldn't necessarily face "official" sanction (unless naughty bits are rubbed together) but any JW "dating and courting" an unbeliever would face an increasingly difficult set of "unofficial" punishments from the JW community, designed to encourage him/her to break it off.
lot going on.

About 50/50 around here too.
It's the "zealous" ones who show up at the KH. Zoom is filled with the elderly, the fence-sitters, and parents with young kids (after 2 years, the prospect of getting all the kids dressed up, then shlepping them to the hall, then fighting to keep them quiet for 2 hours must seem excruciatingly daunting). It also seems to have more than a fair share of folks who just don't feel like going in person, and now there is an easy alternative.
I'm pretty confident that the GB was hoping for an immediate in-person return of 90% or more of the JWs, with Zoom populated solely by the old & the sick. I'm equally confident that the 50/50 split being widely reported is quite disappointing for them. I'm expecting, any day now, the start of video and shepherding visit harassment on the importance of being at the KH in person.
the latest video release 4/4/22 (lesson 44 'don't give up') in the comic series of caleb & sophia just got weirder.
the plot is about caleb & sophia preaching door to door, caleb with his father and sophia with her mother.
it shows each of them having doors slammed on them four times.
That is a weird one.
It's striking that the video ends right there, because....
That "Oh, hi, Chuck" is the point at which every single JW kid on the planet - every one, even the uber role models, you know, the ones baptized at age 7 and started pioneering at age 9 - would react with utter horror, shame, and humiliation at the realization that one of their school peers has caught them red-handed being a religious dork, and knowing that by Monday morning the entire school will know about it and be laughing behind your back, and, well, beside, in front, over, under, and around your back as well.
how far do we get away from 1914 before they have a new light and admit it was all wrong?.
they cling to the old theory of the 77 week prophecy from the wrong date that jerusalem was destroyed .
with the overlapping generations nonsense still we are getting too far away from 1914. what will they say if we get to the 2030s and they still cling to 1914?.
I use Ken Cook as a model. He graduated High School in 1980
Based on Sanderson's blurb when he was appointed to the GB, I calculated his high school graduation as 1983, making him maybe 56 or 57 now.
But given his obesity, yeah, he'll be just a couple Big Macs from a massive coronary after another 10 years or so.
Anyone younger than them, and you stretch the credulity of "young guy's official anointing overlapping with the lifetime of Franz". You'd need to have guys who started partaking as teenagers then followed all the rules to remain "exemplary" and on the fast track.
So yeah, "new light" on "this generation" will probably come in about 10-15 years time.
Anyone want to bet on whether they'll go to a "3-ply overlap"?

I think the further the org gets from 1914, the more irrelevant it becomes.
^ This.
It's different in WT-world than it was 30+ years ago.
Virtually no one cares about doctrine anymore. So long as they have the promise of paradise with a big fancy house, getting to see resurrected grandma, and all the pandas they care to pet, other stuff is just "details".
regarding the governing body update 3 video on resuming meetings in person, i am wondering:.
what is the purpose of wearing masks and to sit keeping distances if you shake hands and hug each other before and after the meetings?.
I enjoyed the interview with Mr. Bean & his wife.

I believe the 7th day adventists still hang onto 1843/44 (William Miller's dates).
There's certainly no danger of the WTS running out of goofy / failed religious movements to copy from.
