Do You Tend To Be Oversensitive???
by minimus inhave you been told before, that you are a bit oversensitive???
as a jw, were you always being "stumbled"?

scootergirl
Thru the years I do believe that I have been able to develop and maintain a sense of balance w/my emotions, but I do have to admit there are times when I can become overly sensitive if I don't keep it in check.

What aggravates me the MOST (cause I have a list of minor aggravations) but the one that peeves me the most is people who crowd my space-either physical or emotional.

Body Image and Little Girls
by Princess ini thought it would be around 12-13 years old.
this from a child who has heard how beautiful she is from strangers every day of her life.. who knew how cutthroat and competitive kindergarten girls are?
a thousand strangers calling her beautiful just can't compete with one five/six year old telling her she is fat and has ugly hair.

I have a child that is overweight. My middle son is. He has gotten teased about it and it really hurt his self esteem. I NEVER once thought of putting him on a diet. I adjusted my cooking and minimized certain foods in our home. I also talked to his father, my ex, about the situation who to my surpise took out pictures of himself when he was our son's age and showed him how he looked (he was heavier then also). The ex shot up w/a growing spurt when in High School to be 6'4" and was very fit. It helped our son w/understanding genetics and also w/out him really knowing what I was doing, he is making much better food choices. Again, I try to accentuate the positive w/him and help him not focus on his outer shell, but how he feels inside. Help him see his good qualities and praise him for choices well made. He is gonna be a bigger kid, there is no doubt about that. We have had to make some changes about how much time he sits in front of the PS2 or television, which meant that MOM had to do the same. We try to spend time outside and much like Dede (btw, miss ya girly!) and her daughter do, take walks together. Get out and do some excercising and not focus on the weight loss but focus on a healthier lifestyle. James wants to try out for football next year and wants to be a blocker (sorry, don't know what exact position because I don't like football..but I will be his biggest cheerleader!). Another comment that I wanted to make is the fact that so many people, young and old, don't know how to dress for the body shape. That has a lot to do w/finding clothes that make us comfortable and flatter our figures-both male and female. I know it makes a big difference in how I perceive myself and am trying to teach my duaghter the same. Not to worry about what size it is on the tag, but how it actually fits on our bodies. Numbers on a scale can be so deceiving too. A certain weight does not insure healthiness.

I too can relate to what has been said in regards to young girls and body image. I remember being a young girl (not as young as Zoe) and comparing myself w/other girls around me. I don't believe I received the affirmations of confidence from my parents about my looks when my insecurities would arise. Now I look back on old pictures and wonder what was I thinking? I have a 13 yr old daughter, Andrea. Andrea has always been a bigger girl-taller and weighed more than most girls her age. Those of you that know me and eyegirl know that "petiteness" isn't in our genetics! lol Andrea would compare herself to the girls in her class. She would be so upset at how she looked. I showered her w/compliments, affirmations and pointed out the things in her life that she could really grasp confidently to help her self esteeem. We went thru bouts of ups and downs. I rode them thru it w/her while keeping a watchful eye on her. She excelled in school and in sports. Andrea is VERY athletic. She has now surpassed me in height and is HOPING to reach 6 feet tall like Auntie (eyegirl)! She use to compare herself to other girls in regards to shape and weight, now she compares herself to them in regards to atheletic ability, and it is so wonderful to see her comfortable in her own skin. She told me the other night that she was happy w/the way she. I think she uses it to her advantage. The hardest part though was riding through those times when it broke my heart as a mom to see so sad and feeling bad about herself. I think Mulan hit it right on the head. You Know It's Trouble When Your 13 year old son says....
by roybatty in"dad, you have to promise not to tell mom.
my kids and i were sitting down at dinner time when my son (with a big grin on his face) said that.
ok, ok, he got me and my 10 year old daughter (mom's little spy) to promise not to tell on him.

Too funny! Unfortunately at our house, the kids don't need any "fart in a can"..they can clear a room on command and laugh about it. Should see them giggle (and mom get pissed when they decide to play their games in the car!)

Rooster Genera and species: Gallus Gallus Collective Term: A brood of roosters Description Roosters are those talented, creative, but somewhat eccentric people who make life interesting for the rest of us. Their bird-like minds are always on the lookout for stimulation and roosters display the characteristically high-energy behavior of their species. They are artistic, creative, and sophisticated with a thorough knowledge of fine wines, cooking, writing, theater and painting. Subscribing to the early bird maxim, roosters rise a little earlier than their competition and could even be accused of having their fingers in too many pies. For the world is so fascinating to the rooster, that settling down into any one career would be impossibly constricting. Unfortunately, their earning potential can suffer in a competitive world that rewards specialization. But, roosters will succeed when they choose a career that presents a variety of challenges, such as medicine, publishing, journalism, or acting. There's a touch of glamour in everything the rooster does -- for settling for less would be exasperating to the rooster's essence. Why take the train if you can fly? This philosophy pervades its personal life, for the rooster proves to be a perfectionist in the bedroom too. Of course, roosters are not above crowing a little, if they feel that their efforts have gone unnoticed. But in the long run, partners have few complaints holding their rooster lover in the highest regard as paramour. Their ideal mates include peacocks who are attracted to their strong demeanor and flashy style. They are incorrigible flirts and although successful in attracting mates, their egos sometimes drive potential partners away. When sufficiently motivated by the right partner however, the rooster will generally find a way to make the relationship work. As a parent, it is fussy and attentive. Like the proverbial brooding hen, it is involved with every aspect of its children's lives; including their dress and company they keep; some even accuse the rooster of being overprotective. Although its children might resent their parent's interference, they learn to appreciate their concerns as they mature. The more reserved animal personalities such as bats, bison and moles find them to be fussy and bossy, and snake and canine personalities should be studiously avoided. A rooster will not be silent while there's breath in its body and although its powerful voice tends to be on the shrill side -- when it calls for action, everyone responds. Fuelled by resentment of their brazen style, these saucy birds hear a lot of unkind remarks from members of their own species and these barbs tear at their self-esteem. But when things look bleak, they stick to their guns, redouble their efforts, and live by the motto: if at first you don't suck seed, try drier grain.
