What should we be teaching our Children?
by eyeslice indespite the lessons of thousands of years of human history, it seems that racial and religious hatred still dominates the thinking of many in this world.
the last century saw the holocaust and other atrocities of ww ii, rwanda, the killing fields, hindus against muslins during the partition of india, catholics against protestants in n. ireland, hatred by certain sections of the muslim world against the usa and list that goes on and on.
the hope i still have is that we can teach our children to think differently.

I agree....love, tolerance, respect (for others and self), self control. I think teaching our children history too-history of what can go wrong, what has gone wrong so that they will want to make it a better world.
It all begins at home. "Let it begin w/me" -

Animal sensors/toll way
by Mac indon't trust them!!!!!
was coming home to indiana from ohio early this morning on the toll road and a deer landed right in front of me...no time to break or swerve and a fraction of a second and amazing leaping skills saved his/her life and maybe mine!!!
i couldn't help thinking about the fact that i'm not a speeder (hell, i even make complete stops at signs...james dean, i'm not!

Glad to hear that you and the deer are okay, Mac!
I can't count the number of times I have hit deer out here...or for the fact that they have hit me! Out here..where there is one deer usually means more! They are so unpredictable too...you would think they would keep running across the road, but NOOOOOOOOO they turn, bob, weave. arrgghhh...
A few years back I had a wolf run into the front side quarter panel of my car! Did LOTS of damage..stunned the wolf too but didn't kill it. Called the DNR and they said more than likely he was chasing a deer! hehe...

We are BIG hockey fans here (and this year sucks w/no professional hockey to watch!). Nathan started hockey when he was 4..this is his second season. Not sure how serious we are about persuing this, but to get him involved in it has been fun. There is nothing cuter than seeing these little kids w/breezers on! hehe...
We are fortunate enough to have a nice sized pond in our backyard. My husband runs a hose thru one of the back windows out to the pond to water it after it starts to ice to make it nice and smooth. The kids have a lot of fun messing around on it. It is pretty cool to have a rink right in a person's back yard!
When I was younger I took many years of figure skating lessons (go figure...lol) and LOVE skating. All three of our kids learned how to skate at an early age and my husband also learned to skate young and play hockey. It is a nice family activity.
Here are some pics of our rink and lil' Nathan...Jim, my husband, made the support bar at work for Nathan to help him learn how to skate. Took Nathan all of two weeks before he ditched it! hehe
Even moms have fun on backyard rinks! hehe
Of course, there is always our "indoor faux rink"...aka KITCHEN, where some practicing goes on! hehe

Your Reflections on 2004
by eljefe inwhat has happended to me this year: .
1. started fading (yay!).
2. happiness (yay!).

2004...where did the year go?
1. I learned that no matter how big the crisis, how painful the experience, I can get thru something. That I don't have to let what happened make me bitter and synical towards life. That I can still see the good in the world and still enjoy my life.
2. I learned the true meaning of compassion.
3. I learned the appreciation of "true" friends and the difference (again) between true friends and acquaintances.
4. My love for my children just gets deeper and deeper. 2004 brought me a few heartaches but much joy. My children are my life and I am very proud of each and every one of the. I noticed over this past year as they grew older how each of them has an attribute special to their personality.

I love Ebay.....I saved and made $$$$
by HappyDad inanyone have experience selling on ebay?.
i recently started learning about it and bought a brand new total gym (the infomercial by chuck norris and christy brinkley).

I agree. Some of the sellers really go nuts on shipping!
I always check feedback too. That is very important to me to buy from someone that has good feedback.
And as far as having a paypal account, I will not buy from a seller who doesn't take paypal. It is so much easier paying for it right from my pc.
Aloneintheoh, good advice! As far as selling multiple items I have noticed when some sellers list them back to back on ebay and I think how silly! Lately I have been buying Italian Charms for my bracelet and have noticed that when I have lost an auction I have gotten a "second chance" email from seller (meaning first seller didn't follow thru w/auction OR seller has multiple items) offering me the item for my highest bid. Works for me!
Do any of you buyers "snipe"? That is my favorite! Here is the program I use. Very seldom do I lose an auction when I snipe! http://www.auctionstealer.com/home.cfm

As far as the Encyclopedia selling, I would run a search of completed items and see what it has sold for in the past. Then you can start the bidding (or reseve) according to that.
