  The Resurrection narrative can make perfect sense if you consider it to be a lie.

  there are aspects to the resurrection story that seem unnecessary but make perfect sense if you consider them as patches to shore up the lie of jesus' resurrection.. (1) why did there have to be angels present at jesus' resurrection?

  there is no other resurrection account in the bible that mentions the involvement of angels.. possible explanation: jesus' disciples really did steal jesus' body from the tomb.

  two or three of them ambushed and knocked/drugged unconscious the guards on the scene before stealing the body.

  Any consistencies in the gospel narratives end with the crucifixion and resurrection. Was Jesus betrayed with a kiss, a pointed finger or did he come forward and turn himself in? Did Judas accept the 30 pieces of silver and purchase land with it or did he cast his ill-gotten coins upon the temple floor in shame? What were Jesus' last words? Which disciples were the first to witness the empty tomb? How many angels were at the tomb or were there any at all? They can't even agree on where Jesus showed up or where he ascended to Heaven.

  If Christians would just sit down and READ this book they claim to live their lives by, they would lose their faith over night.

  Why hasn't the WT spoken out as loudly about Islam as it has catholics?

  13 june 2017. a national christian group is lobbying for the disability discrimination act to be changed so that it can discriminate against people with mental illnesses, on the basis they could upset the "sacred" nature of church services.. familyvoice has called for a religious exemption to the act, arguing it interferes with freedom of religion.. in a submission to a federal parliamentary inquiry on freedom of belief, familyvoice said a person with a mental illness had the potential to interfere with a church service.. "for very good reasons a religion may not wish to engage a person who has a mental illness and displays disturbed behaviour," the submission read.. "a simple provision should be added for an exemption from the act for persons ... whose conscientious beliefs do not allow them to comply" .

  My New Fascination - Evolution!

  since leaving watchtower i kind of hit the "reset" button in my mind and reevaluated what i thought i knew, what i believe and i require proof for every idea put before me before i commit to it.

  lately i've been fascinated with evolution.

  as a jw i never even looked at the subject, dismissing it as "just a theory".

  Cofty: You might be surprised to learn just how much progress has been made in abiogenesis. Some really promising work being done by Nick Lane of UCL and others on bioenergetics.

  I'll look them up. The concept of abiogenesis has fascinated me ever since I read of a Scottish scientist back in the late nineteenth century who claimed to have done it. Most people now think it was a hoax, as his experiments were never reproduced, but it the nonetheless sparked my interest. Creationists argue that there is no way something as complex as a cell could spontaneously assemble itself, yet Lynne Margulis' endosymbiotic hypothesis was proven beyond any doubt once mitochondrial DNA was discovered and compared with the DNA of modern bacteria. Cells did not spontaneously assemble themselves, nor were not created in their modern form by God, they evolved from simpler components, just multicellular organisms later evolved from them.

  Good news indeed! But the judge didn't go far enough. I think that eventually every secular nation will have to copy China's policy: no one under 18 years of age should be permitted to enter a church, mosque or synagogue. The primary vector for the god virus is simple procreation. Children should be inoculated at an early age through the study of logic and science, not exposed from infancy as they are at present. If an adult wants to convert to some wacky cult, more power to them, but their children should not be forced into the bargain! And how many adults will even consider joining any religion if they were never exposed to it in childhood? This is their Achilles heel!

  I have never met a creationist who understood evolution. All of their polemics against the theory, even what you find in books by authors who should have first read some themselves, boil down to straw-man arguments. I sometimes suspect that these books are really just covert misinformation campaigns - something they succeed at very well - instead of genuine attempts to refute the theory of evolution.

  The smart creationist concerns himself solely with with origin of life itself rather than the origin of species, as this is one of the few dark corners that science hasn't yet shed its light on.

  I have been reflecting on the responses to my post for the past day. People who have undergone radiation and chemo (or knew someone who had) report no ill-effects other than fatigue and hair loss as well as the cancer retreating, and while I don't for a moment believe that anyone here is lying, I find these statements impossible to square with my own experiences.

  When my father was diagnosed with cancer he did not seem unhealthy to me. He may have had cancer, but he was still able to work, eat and do everything that he had always done before. And yet, after only a few short weeks of radiation and chemo, he was bed-ridden, could not keep any food down and was in constant pain. Whether these symptoms of his were actually the result of his treatments or the cancer itself, it is clear that the treatments were doing absolutely nothing to help him.

  Something isn't adding up here.

  Why does this forum tolerate Cold steele and his mormonism beliefs ? Who`s next ?

  i thought this forum was for people who were ex jw`s and pro jw`s and the like to debate ,discuss and reasonably talk about our differences ,and sometimes drift off into politics world events and whatever.. however over a period of time i have come across cold steel `s many posts which are nothing more than promoting his mormon religions point of view./beliefs what has that got to do with jehovahs witnesses and the concerns many have with the jw religion.?.

  it seems to me he is using this forum to promote his religion and is getting away with it over a long period of time.. how long before other cult religions see this as a springboard for promoting their own religion such as .

  sda`s ,christian scientists , christadelphians ,beroean bible students ,etc.etc.. where will it end if he is able to keep doing this ?.

  This is an ex-jw forum, not an ex-theist forum. Plenty of ex-jws adopt different religions after leaving (it's why some leave in the first place). If religion scares you and you would rather talk with only atheists then there are plenty of other places on the web where you can go.

  Whether Jesus was a historical figure or not matters not

  when i suffered some loss what jesus said came to my mind: “if anyone wants to sue you and take your shirt, let him have your coat also.” (mathew 5:40) principle behind this statement made flash to me: ‘here shirt is only a symbol of material things/comfort.

  if you suffer a loss, have the mind-set that i have no problem even if i suffer some greater loss,’ and my worry immediately disappeared.

  whether jesus was a historical figure or not matters not if what he (supposedly) said happens to be of great practical help..

  As a religion I think Christianity stands or falls on Jesus' historicity (as well as his resurrection); but as an ethical philosophy Christianity no more depends on Jesus than Platonism does on Socrates. Christian ethics sans the religious dogma, whether it be in the form of Christian Deism or Christian Atheism or 'Infinite Way' monism, is the only way I see Christianity surviving in an educated society; it's the only variety of Christianity that deserves to survive.

  i like to watch ted talks.. a recent one i watched was "why i left the westboro baptist church" x megan phelps-roper.

  i have never heard of this church ever before after all i am in australia.

  the talk and all the young woman stated as beliefs and dogma sounded just like the jw minus the noisy demos..

  The Westbro Baptists not only read the Bible (unlike the vast majority of those who consider themselves Christians), but they have the integrity to follow the principle of sola scriptura to its logical conclusion. It's an ugly conclusion, I will concede you that, but for that very reason I favor it. These people have done more to discredit Christianity than Richard Dawkins, Christopher Hitchens and Robert G. Ingersoll combined! Those men could always be accused of being prejudiced against the Bible - of deliberately twisting the scriptures to fit their anti-theist agenda - but you can't accuse Rev. Phelps of that. He's a Christian who 'gets it'. He sees the Christian God for the psychopathic monster that he is and embraces Him!

  And what does "intellectually dishonest" mean?

  An intellectually dishonest person is someone who consciously refuses to take responsibility for the contents of their mind and thus fails to arrive at an internally consistent worldview. Like insisting that blood transfusions are the same as drinking blood and thus unkosher, while scarfing down bacon and clam chowder.
