  I sometimes winced when I heard some illustrations or analogies that more aptly depicted WTC than other false religions. Over the years, it just got harder and harder to keep a straight face when I was positive that WTC was describing itself.

  Jan - didn't you watch The Ten Commandments where Joshua just barely got inside the house before the angel mist went by?!

  I have heard many JWs equate deliberately missing the memorial with the unforgivable sin.

  Frankly it has bothered me for many years that Jesus said to "keep doing this in remembrance of me" but when I went, I never drank the wine or ate the bread. At his last Passover meal, everyone ate and drank. WTC says Judas did not stay for the bread and wine passed after the meal but that's for another day to discuss. What's the point if you don't share in the very things that he said stood for his blood and perfect body?

  Oh well - I have no explanations for the disconnect on that one other than, "Because Judge Rutherford said not to".

  "Mankind's Search for God" book

  My memory is revived. We covered parts of it as material for TMS parts. I remember giving a part with material from the book. I was an MS at the time and the material was meatier than the usual rah rah rah - sis boom bah!

  I remember there was lots of talk at Bethel as to why it was removed from publication and never studied from cover to cover. My memory tells me that we covered parts of it when we were offering brochures geared towards Hindus and Muslims maybe.

  I recall some 'steadfast' ones at Bethel remarking that studying it would have been like force-feeding false doctrine to the congregation for over a year. That made me wonder why they produced it at all. The real story may simply be that it was a poorly conceived project, similar to some of the expensive 'cutting edge' equipment Bethel purchased but never used - now housed somewhere at the bottom of a landfill, next to the discarded Aid Books and Mankinds Search for God books.

  kingdom halls will be the thing of the past.. conventions (mini assembly halls will still be going on) but will charge for attending and parking and always a donation.

  elders will play a much smaller role since csa.

  cart preaching will replace door to door.

  JWs are declining as we discuss this topic. WTC has authorized LDCs to survey all congs to determine which ones need to be consolidated (a form of radical down-sizing), and which KHs need to be sold (a desperate money grab). They are gearing up for a LARGE SELLOFF, contrary to the idea that they are growing at a measly +1% annually worldwide, or experiencing minor shrinkage in the U.S. at only -1% annually.

  They constantly bring up donations, not because they have $Billions laying around Warwick, but because they are worried about meeting operating costs.

  They didn't put Ramapo on hold because they want to enlarge it in the plans - they cannot fund it and therefore cannot start construction.

  Patterson is greatly under-used because they don't do the work that they used to do - they don't do the publishing that they once did because printing is a money drain and they are declining.

  They don't talk about the CSA lawsuits and criminal charges - is it because there are so few that it is not worth their time to do so? No - there are SO MANY that they are overwhelmed, drowning in litigation and investigations.

  They didn't hire the same Attorney group the Catholics use because they were unable to select from all the JW attorneys lining up to volunteer for free. No - they hired them because they are DESPERATELY SHORT of JW attorneys and think the Catholics are seasoned at fending off CSA payouts.

  Maybe I am wrong but to believe what WTC says is evidence of still being deluded by them. Have we not learned that they will fabricate a lie even when the truth would serve them better?

  Perhaps they will find a way to tread water and keep a generation of diehards under their spell for another decade or two or three. So what - they are irrelevant already and becoming moreso as each year passes.

  They are exposed now and cannot reverse the tide of bad PR, out of court settlements, dying old-timers and fading young ones. Even without the confusing doctrines that change more rapidly than members can digest, their brand looks like a documentary waiting to be made on failed religions.

  Is there really any universal issue of Sovereignty?

  i can agree that satan doesn't see god as a good ruler as stated at gen 3:1-5. he doesn't seem to see gods laws as right or good.

  but whether there is an understanding/agreement between god and satan afterward to the effect that he can take the mantle of rulership to show whether his style is best is doubtful.

  that conclusion is probably reached because god hasn't destroyed satan, and he is also called the ruler of the world in the bible.

  WTC has always preferred a simple litmus test for their adherents - as Ding expressed. Anything that could lead into a gray area of what is right or wrong is quickly squelched. For example, they don't want to talk about how their disbelief in an immortal soul or an inexhaustible life force conflicts with the resurrection of the real person (this is only one example). They demand simple equations to sift their followers, otherwise chaos could break out.

  Universal Sovereignty is the perfect Black v White issue. Give the wrong answer and you are OUT!

  this afternoon i drove by an old hall i attended ( barrington illinois) and noticed that it had been sold, it is now an adventist .

  church !

  now here is my drive-home thinking.. back in the 80's when i attended i was newly married, and had a young child.

  WTC had no problem buying or selling to Babylon the Great. That should tell you something. That is why they joined the UN - to get cozy with other organized religions who could provide ideas about organization and profitability.

  How to debunk the 1914 calculus ONLY using JW publications?

  i remember having read somewhere, but i cannot find it anymore, that it is possible to debunk the 1914 calculus using only jw publications, like "insight on the scriptures" (chronologies) for example.. do you have any sources about that to suggest to me?.

  I used to present lots of facts from articles and scriptures, but now my approach is different.

  I open a calendar and ask when the person was born. Then I say, Oh that's not even on this calendar. Do you remember when Charles Taze Russel went to visit Jerusalem? They almost always say no.

  Then I say - "Neither does anyone else because they are all dead for many decades."

  It never sways anyone but I do it anyway.

  Still, I don't think mine have the fresh, hard-hitting spontaneity that yours have. Oh well, I give up.

  i think you all know me as a person who has always strived, despite my imperfections to only ever wanting to be and remain in the “truth”.

  it is in fact what i so desperately want for my son ashton and my baby girl honey bee, to be lovers of truth and grow up to be a loyal servants of jehovah god and his son, jesus christ.

  It is a doozy of a DA letter. You made excellent points but of course no one at "Headquarters" will ever take the time to read it.

  Besides, I suspect they are too busy wringing their hands over the PA CSA, the Japan blood transfusion issue, decreasing donations, pending depositions for the GB, the Tony Morris "whatever it was debacle", the failed attempt to launch Ramapo and how to re-appropriate the donations they received, what to do with Patterson, whaere to house all the elderly, and more......

  Enjoy the freedom to worship without a whip cracking over your head!
