Re: Mentally diseased

i have been thinking about the mentally diseased belief/doctrine of jw's lately and the thread the other day about the mentally challenged child who was brutally (and humorously) honest at a convention got me to wonder something.

it seems to me that jw's use 'mentally diseased' in such a derogatory way as if it is a failing on the part of the person, or almost sinful (demons?

), or perhaps that person should just be dismissed on all counts all the time.

I have an autistic son. He doesn't believe that god exists. His mind needs evidence, definitive proof of everything. Blind faith - nope wont have a bar of it.

I often think that the increase diagnosis of autism will one day see the majority of the population unable to grasp the concept of a God. The Autistic mind will become the norm and the neurotypicals will be the odd ones. One well known psychologist Tony Attwood has said that autism may be the next step in evolution.

The autistic mind is pretty awesome. They are not pretenders or fake. They say it as it as they see it. I for one enjoy the honesty.

It says teenage children. You need to force and insist that the teenagers believe because by this time they have worked out it is all BS. Blackmail them into baptism by withholding basic rights such as a driver's licence.

Threaten them with cutting them off that way they will love Jehovah and the Org all the more.

A Visit from the JWs, knocking at our door...!

ha, another visit from the jws.... thankfully they are few and far between (seem to roll around whenever the co visits or is about to visit...)an elder and his wife, presenting the magazines and inviting us to the talks, which are "so encouraging".

he had the saddest, most hang-dog expression, as he bemoaned these last days, so critical to deal with, and how the world was getting so terrible, things are so bad, blah blah blah, and every time i looked at her, she smiled encouragingly at me with that bright-eyed, put-on "sincere" smile.

i thanked them for coming, and said, "i appreciate you thinking about us" (after they said how the "missed us" at the meetings, ugh) -- "but we know where the kingdom hall is if we decide to go back.

So nice of them to come in person. When the CO is due around here we get phone calls 20minutes before the meeting starts and maybe a text message.

Recently my mother was saying how many miss us. I told her "my phone is not ringing off the hook and I have had the same number since 1999."

Classic situation at Circuit Assembly Day

so i've just skived off to the car park half way through our assembly day - what a classic morning.. i'm sat right behind an early-teen kid with some sort of special needs (autistic?

) who's sat with what looks like his late-30's harassed single parent mother.

(or married to an unbelieving mate?

Poor kid. Having to sit there would have been pure torture for him and he would be aware that his mother was embarrassed by him and that is not fair on him. Honesty should not cause embarrassment. I have a SNK who speaks his mind and I am never embarrassed by it. Surprised sometimes for sure. He sees and notices things us neurotypical do not and it is never boring in his presence. Haha.

Learning To Believe Again

i was raised a jw and left the organization when i was 18 years old.

many thought i left because i wanted to live a life full of drugs, sex, and rock and roll, which was not true at all.

i left because i realized that these people had no idea what they were talking about and were simply parroting what the, " society " , told them to believe.

Bank and ATM's..

i went to the atm to get out my housekeeping and budgeting money.

($650) this covers large bills and everyday shopping for food etc.. made the withdrawal and as i fumbled my wallet the atm took the money back.

a bank staff member was present helping another customer with the other atm and saw this.

Woman threw Watchtower in my face so I voted yes to Australian gay marriage.

years ago on one of my last witnessing trips i left two magazines with an intelligent looking woman with a lovely house.

she gave my a donation and we carried on.

after 45 minutes she tracked us down at another house and returned the mags to me saying we "hate homosexuals and are preaching hatred..." she looked very upset and i was shocked by this and because someone actually bothered to read the magazines i just left!

I too voted yes. If they don't believe in God why should they have to live by his rules? Plus politics and religion should not mix. There is no valid political reason to stop them from marrying.

There are those who would be happy for them to have a union called something other than "marriage".

Tell me what you think

i left 5 years ago and even though i've had therapy and have been medicated somehow, something from the last creeps up on me.

i started writing a book, mostly for my own healing.

i wrote a letter to my parents of everything i had wanted to say but knew i wouldn't get a chance to.

I like that idea. I wanted to write to my mum too but haven't because things are kind of going back to normal. I am learning to listen to the "witnessing" and biting my tongue and if I wrote and told her all I have learned I am sure that I would never see her again DFd or not.

Is it me?

so, i’ve been out going on 10 years and at times i think about going back, but i can never muster the energy.

over the last few however, i’ve noticed that a lot of people who were in good standing, and pillars in the congregation and org are now df’d.

most know i’ve been out for a while and see that i’m doing pretty good and want to talk or get together.

The devil's advocate in me likes to think that maybe these ones have had their own Awakening and need friends who know what they are going through and that is why they seek to reconnect. But that is just me.
